The Avengers Loki's army

If that's true then it's ******ed. If Loki has the Infinity Gauntlet then he doesn't need an army. :whatever:

Well Thanos is the only one who truely knows how to use it. He created it. So, in the MCU, it could be that it simply won't work for anyone else besides Thanos. Therefor, no one has a need to use it. However, the gems?

Thanos only "created" the Infinity Gauntlet insomuch as he took the pre-existing Infinity Gems, whose existence predates the universe and are all that remain of an omnipotent being whose suicide led to the creation of the current universe, and superglued them to one of his gloves. That's it. He certainly never created the gems themselves, nor do they answer only to Thanos, as it's been shown that anybody and everybody can use them.

Moreover, that would make Loki out to be a total imbecile. If someone's willing to trade an army for a glove with some gems on it, then obviously it has to have a value greater then that of the army he's getting. For someone as smart as Loki, it wouldn't take him very long at all to figure out what the Infinity Gems are capable of, assuming he isn't already aware of their existence and what they can do.

I know it's been rumored, but I'm sticking to my theory that Lokis staff has the mind gem in it. It may not be discussed or even given much notice in Avengers, but considering the gem in his staff is blue, and Loki (apparently) uses the staff to control the minds of others is plenty hinting enough for me.

The correct answer, when all the cards have been counted, will likely be "All of the Above."

Speculation and rumors from the start has been that Loki's army is a mixed bag of lots of different thugs and ne'er-do-wells from all corners of the cosmos --- some recognizable to fanboys, some not so much. I fully expect little bits 'n' pieces of Frost Giants here, Fire Demons there, Rock Trolls, Skrullies, Kree malcontents, Deviants, Badoon baddies, just about anything you can think of. I think Loki's mercenary army is gonna look like the Mos Eisley cantina regulars, or the entourage at Jabba's Palace.

This pretty much sums it up, Loki's army are mongrels.

Thanos had to learn to use them all together though. He went to the Infinity Well and discovered how to use them properly. Before then the Masters of the Universe had them individually but didn't know how to fully harness them together.

I don't think Loki should have the IG though. I do wonder if that is one of the gems or some other artefact in his sceptre. I think the best shouts for Loki's army are either Phalanx or Deviants. They do seem bio-mechanical.

Bringing this thread back for some more in-depth discussion =)

So according to some twitter posts of people who have seen early screenings, Loki's army is
The Chitauri, aka Ultimate Skrulls

From what it seems they'll just be an invading force, and there have been no hints of
shape changing
...which I find a tad disappointing...that was a favorite trait of mine, especially in Ultimates.

ditto. it's uninspiring. and a missed opportunity. I don't see why Skrulls in name, or look wouldn't work. Some of the promo art during Secret invasion was pretty creepy, and would look pretty awesome in live action

Joss told you why already ....

"Those two aliens are Marvel mainstays and have enormous backstories," Whedon explained. "They have a big life of their own that just could not be contained in a film where I already had seven movie stars."

??

i obviously and apparently don't know this...

it's impossible to keep up with the news anyway unless you live in the Avengers thread.

You should look to move in then. There's plenty of room for everyone.

You don't keep up with the front page of sites like SHH or CBM??? It made head lines because it was such a point of interest.

i keep up with SHH, and i hate CBM..

but it doesn't change the fact i still don't understand what you're talking about... and it'd be nice if you shared.

Is that a serious response?

Whedon confirmed no Skrull or Kree .... that quote I pasted for you above was his explanation why he didn't use them. I posted it because you were whining about them not using Skrulls.

but it doesn't explain anything... the
Chitari
are just ultimate skrulls... they even are a direct bloodline to skrulls themselves. "lets not use skrulls because of there huge story, but lets still use them" that doesn't make any sense.

The majority of some people's disappointment at it possibly being the
Chitauri
is simply attributed to the high expectations we had.

It was mentioned in several interviews that the alien race wouldn't have such a big impact on the film, and it was further confirmed that they wouldn't be the Skrulls alongside other races.

People still persisted with the train of thought that the aliens would be established as a significant race to be explored in sequels and other films - some even remained adamant that they were the Skrulls. People built up for themselves these high expectations and created grand illusions about who the aliens might be that they were basically setting themselves up for a potentially huge disappointment.

I'm fine with it being the
Chitauri
. I knew the film would be bigger than the identity of the aliens when a particular interview waaay back came up.

"lets not use skrulls because of there huge story, but lets still use them"

The
Chitauri
could easily be modified in the MCU (different from the Ultimate and 616 universe) to be an entirely separate race from the Skrulls or part of those Deviants. And they did seem to be the most suitable alien race instead of suggestions like the Badoon and whatnot.

Fans will never be pleased, it seems.

Using
the Chitauri name
is a good path because they can take the liberty of molding their look to suit their needs. The comic book they originate in doesn't even give us a perfectly good look at their true form...so their appearance is easily taken care of. Skrull is a name that carries backstory and history....while the above mentioned is a nice little nod with no weighty expectations.

i just don't see the point. There's plenty of other alien races they could have used, that really need no indepth story.. and just labled them that. Rather than making them simply just "another name for skrulls". just seems odd and kinda pointless imo.
