The Avengers Loki's army

I'm curious to know how their names are mentioned in context to the movie.

I am as well, hopefully it's either said during a debriefing from Fury or something along those lines.

I'm hoping their importance is tied more to the source of the army than the army themselves. Who loans them to Loki? That's the real hook.

Same here :word:

Hmmm interesting point. Would SHIELD be aware of the presence of other lifeforms in the universe?

They are aware of the Asgardians, so perhaps that caused them to do extensive research on finding out about other foreign lifeforms.

Well that's more or less been revealed. But I won't spoil it for you.

For me, as long as the baddies get a name drop an some cool close ups, I'll be more than satisfied as I watch their asses get pounded into the ground.

They would, if S.W.O.R.D. is part of the MCU. :)

Weren't there rumors --- and this coulda been years ago --- about Abigail Brand having a cameo in an early draft of the Avengers script? She *is* a Joss Whedon character, after all.

If we go by the Ultimates 1, SHIELD says they are awre of 11 species inhabiting the earth. I highly doubt SHIELD in the MCU wouldn't be just as informed...especially when we see them possibly examining the 9 realms in Fury's big week.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of them being the "Chitauri" since I'm a huge 616 fan and not a fan of Ultimate Marvel at all.

If it were up to me I would've called then "Deviants", "Phalanx", or "Badoon" since those are 616 alien races, but in the grand scheme of things I don't really care because they're not important.

Your avy is f'in sick!

Joss and co didn't want to use the Skrulls. Perhaps simply for creative reason or maybe they are saving them.

It doesn't really matter. They've used the Chitauri because they are "expendable". No real in depth story to them, they're just a disposable army. They look cool and menacing enough. I don't see the problem.

well technically they do have a pretty confusing backstory.. considering the comics now say they are an off shoot of the skrull race.

That wasn't always the case. Originally, when the ultimates were first conceived, the Chitauri were always intended to be the ultimate Skrulls....it was only later that tht were pseudo retconned as an 'offshoot'. And unlike the 616 Skrulls, they didn't have a hierarchy or queens or civilizations and history. They were just 'the universes immune system', eradicating free will and trying to make the universe harmonious. That was summed up in a few pages, whereas the Skrulls have decades of stories behind them. It's easier to bring the Chitauri onscreen and make them expendable than to bring in Skrulls and not do them justice as one of Marvels premiere alien races.

They are the main antagonists, with famous actors playing them. This is just a fodder CGI army. Their appeal and main talking point was the mystery surrounding them, their identities and origins.

just sounds far more complicated to use skrull off shoots.. then a marvel race that actually does exist, and is pretty much fodder in the comics as well. Hell.. they could have just created a race and it would have been better than the chitari

lol, yeah, but now that is the way.

what i do wonder... is if there's a deeper reason to the [BLACKOUT]chitari[/BLACKOUT].. i mean, they are "Radical offshoots of the [BLACKOUT]skrulls[/BLACKOUT]" and apparently working for [BLACKOUT]Thanos[/BLACKOUT]. A long time ago during speculations, i always thought it would have been cool to make [BLACKOUT]Thanos[/BLACKOUT] a "skrull god" basically a cosmic god the skrulls worship, it wouldn't really change anything about [BLACKOUT]Thanos[/BLACKOUT] but tie them in nicely (especially due to there similar appearance). The Skrull race calls the [BLACKOUT]chitari [/BLACKOUT]"zealots" i believe too. Basically a disgrace to there race. So what if these are indeed suppose to be related to [BLACKOUT]skrulls[/BLACKOUT]? and they "gone insane worshiping [BLACKOUT]thanos[/BLACKOUT]" becoming his minions. I imagine this race has to be some what important if they are minions of [BLACKOUT]thanos[/BLACKOUT].. it means they will indeed appear again.

I'm just gonna throw this out there: I think we can stop blacking out the names of these aliens now. People who read comics know who they are just based on our open discussion of the Ultimate Skrulls and people who don't read the comics wouldn't know the difference.

i didn't just black it out for the alien race though... i blacked it out because of the after credit spoiler too

I'm all for blacking out that name for now. I was only talking about the aliens.

So, are the [BLACKOUT]Chitauri[/BLACKOUT] really supposed to be the "gangsters of the Nine Realms" in the MCU? :cwink:

An interesting description anyway...
