Little wiki edit job
Since a script leak fan reaction has been mixed. Some see it as a revitalized and new take on the franchise while others see it as a bastardization of the characters from the old G1 cartoon. There also seems to be a prevailing belief that the Don Murphy Boards and Shootfortheedit (Michael Bay's Board) actively keeps negative opinions regarding the film suppressed therefore quieting the "fan input" which was initially said to be so crucial in pre-production. In fact some argue fan input is outright ignored, and any changes made are more fan appeasement on top of an otherwise unrecognizable product. However apologists for the film insist that this film is being adapted in such a way to tone down the "toy commercial" aspects which plagued the original show. Michael Bay himself has insisted that this movie is "not a toy commercial" and "not about toys". However even these statements seem somewhat ironic considering that Bay himself is profiting greatly from a much expanded Transformers toy and merchandise line which follows the film's release.

Hope Bay likes my subtle jabs.

...And this I did for fun, and to be an ass.
Michael Bay, as stated by the popular magazine Variety, may in fact have no soul. To compensate for this the article claims he feeds off the souls of others, consuming them until he becomes a massive creature capable of applying an orange filter to the fabric of space time itself. Scientists refer to this as the "Bay Orange Filter Theory" and it is one of the leading theories regarding the Universe's eventually fate along with "the Big Chill" and "the Big Crunch".

you and youre mates must spend so much time in your basement giggling over stuff like this, you may not like some of the choices and design but grow up a bit

and people complain when fans of this genre are called sad

Fans opinions have been supressed?

There is no conspiricy theory here bub, just a bunch of whiney @$$holes.

Fans opinions have been supressed?
Actually he is pretty much correct at least from what I have heard about the Don Murphy Boards. If you have any varying negative opinions about the movie those posters are banned.

I have an account there, but I don't post there any because there isn't many left that actually knows about the Transformers. :oldrazz:

Oh and ShadowBoxing I just glanced at the wiki pages and I don't see the changes you made. Have they already suppressed your opinion again? Man if they did that was quick...

Yeah, the first one is there, but the second has already been killed:

Transformers fans have every right to be pissed. We love these characters and have been waiting 20 years to see a live action Transformers movie only to get TINO.

I don't understand the Bay apologist. They expect life-long Transformer fans to lose all attatchment to characters and stories that made us fans in the first place and imbrace the ugliest most unispired character designs since Jar Jar. Does that make any sense?

Would you expect LOTR fans to embrace Uwe Boll if he re-imagined LOTR for his own sick, twisted amusement? If he got the guy that played Mini-me to play Frodo and he changed "the ring" into a magical umbrella. You wouldn't be telling the fans to "get a life" or "grow up". You would understand it was f--ked up to change something made popular by a loyal fanbase wrecklessly and pointlessly. You'd understand that it is wrong to name something Lord of the Rings when most of the characters and original ideas are barely recognizable.

So stop sucking Bay's taint and making execuses for that egomanical dream rapist. You're like his dedicated nazi youth group ripping down our G1 Megatron posters telling us to give up our dreams and inner-child so Bay can wipe his ass with them without any disruptions.

Is Paramount paying you people to attack Transformer fans who expect the movie to resemble what made it popular in the first place? Please tell me you're getting paid then it makes at least a little sense.

There is one problem with all of the fan backlash here regarding the Transformers movie. And I'm not trying to defend Michael Bay here or his choices for the film... I personally think he's a hack director and if this movie turns out to be anything more than 2 hours of eye candy it will be a miracle. That being said... regardless of who directed this movie or what said director wanted it to be, the Transformers have a VERY convoluted history... even compared to other comic book superhero style stories. Seriously think about how silly this movie could be if they based it 100% on Generation 1 Transformers. Or even if it was good, there would still be fans of Generation 2, Beast Wars, and other various storylines that would object.

Since the subject of wikipedia has come up, I suggest anyone who needs to brush up on their Transformers-lore to go look them up on that site. I did recently because I hadn't watched the cartoon or read the comic in years. The history there is mind-boggling because there have been SO many restarts and re-imaginings. It's not something like The Lord of the Rings where you have a definite story to base your film on, or even something like Batman where you have a fairly clear continuity.

The sad thing is, we got a faithful Transformers movie once... it was animated, and it flopped. Granted, this could have been for a number of reasons... I remember being pissed that I went to see my favorite cartoon turned into a movie just to see my hero get killed off at the beginning. But it was a plot point. A bold one, and one that may have tanked the film, but it also could have been that there wasn't as much of an interest in seeing a futuristic alien robot movie as the studios thought.

The problem with any type of movie of this genre is trying to appeal to the masses. We may not always like it, but they are a factor and if these films don't appeal to everyone in some respect, then there won't be sequels. And that's not saying they should pander to every person possible... just that in trying to be 100% faithful to the source material, we alienate a lot of people who didn't grow up on this stuff.

Bottomline... this movie will probably make a lot of money no matter what because at this point, everyone is curious to see how it turns out. But no matter how close it sticks to the source material or differs from it, it can't please everyone. I just hope that it's not a waste of time.

You make a good point That Guy. As a huge TF G1 fan, I can honestly say that I don't think either TF the comic or the cartoon were all that stupendous that the movie need to be based on it 100%.

BUT, that doesn't mean that the movie can't be faithful to CORE elements that DID make Transformers great. The SCI-FI potential behind Transformers was awesome. This movie doesnt seem to be living up to that potential.

If anything, it's a parody. And much of it actually insults everything that Transformers was... from the Bizarro mixups of alt-modes and designs to actual plot itself. (Bumblbee a hot rod? Jazz a dwarf? Optimus Prime with Trick my Truck flames? No search for energy resources?). I mean, really, aside from the names of characters, in what way is this movie ACTUALLY Transformers???

Here's you lesson for today. There are other human beings on the planet. And they have this thing called an opinion. And it's theirs and theirs only. And your denying people their right to have an opinion like you owned the world.

It's disgusting. Your delusional at this point. I'm looking forward to the film. I love the new designs. I love everything I've seen so far. Almost every design is superior to anything the cartoon ever put up. And this is my opinion. And nobody paid me for this.

You just can't accept the fact that the movie isn't exactly like YOU wanted. But YOU aren't important. The movie wasn't made for YOU. It was made for everybody, that includes you. You got the right to dislike what you've seen. But you haven't got the right to spew the crap you just did in that post. Unispired designs aren't a fact. This is your opinion. And my opinion is that the designs rocks. Who is right? Not me. Not you. Argue with this...Just try. But that's still a cold hard fact.

This fanbase's gotta be the biggest group of arsehats I've ever seen on the ****ing Internet. You are a whining little baby. That's all you are. So you can **** off with your crap because I sure don't give a **** about your blabla.

Don Murphy rears his lunatic head once again.

quite frankly this movie is gonna make or break Bay.

Haha! you like the designs and changes because you have a superficial attacthment to G1 or none at all. Just because you failed to appreciate the G1 characters and designs doesn't mean Bay's changes are an improvement in any way. Stop making execuses for those tacky, forgettable, ugly re-designs you shameless Micheal Bay-buttcrack licker.

You know why it's dumb to change the G1 characters?

1) The G1 character designs were so good they created a life-long fanbase of millions. Not many cartoons, movies or books can ver hope to achieve that. Trying an untested formula is risky and arrogant.

2) Some people like Godzilla (1998) because he was anatomically correct and had new powers but that majority of audiences didn't connect to GINO the changes were superficial and the traits and details that made Godzilla popular were all MIA. Instead you have an uninspired giant lizard movie that people have zero emotional investment in. It was just some forgettable giant lizard doing dumb forgettable crap. Nobody cared. Nobody wanted the dvd or sequel. Why? Because the people who created Godzilla understood the appeal better than the American idiots who just wanted to make some quick cash making a movie named Godzilla WITHOUT GODZILLA.

3) Most Americans between the ages of 16 and 45(the target demographic) know what Megatron looks like. They expect Megatron to have a humonoid face, with a nazi-helmet and huge bad-ass arm cannon just like most people expect Godzilla to have his signiture look and scream. Take that away and you have giant robots and lizards nobody cares about becaue they lack iconic characterization or cultural reference.

If you expect fans to accept these ugly and uninspired changes and designs then your an idiot. Anyone with a brain wouldn't expect Star Wars fans to embrace Jar Jar. Why would you expect life-long Transformer fans to bend over for Bay and his appeasers? Why do you think they're Transformer fans in the first place? BECAUSE THEY LOVE THE CHARACTERS YOU DUMBASS!!! Without the characters what's left? Generic giant robots that happen to transform. Who cares about that? Hundreds of thousands of Transformer fans didn't get tatoos of Autobot and Decepticon etched into their skin because the characters where meaningless and easily replacable.

But who cares about the fans? They're just the people who made Transfomrers popular in the first gotdamn place. If life-long Transformer fans weren't putting up posters, distributing fanart, and buying G1 revival merchandise day after day for the past 20 years do you really believe Hollywood would even consider making a TRansformers movie?

So we come back to the question: why call this movie Transformers at all if the characters barely resmeble the one that made the franchise an international and pop culture phenomenon? WHY CALL IT TRANSFORMERS? Call it "Bay's Giant Alien Robots". See how many people care. Oh that's right Optimus Prime is a household name because of the iconic G1 character designs and story. That's why Hollywood is making a movie named Transformers instead of Go-bots or some other forgettable 80's crap. But these arrogant, Hollywood *****ebags are so thick-headed they think they can distort, pervert, twist all the traits and designs that made Transformers popular in the first place. What a bunch of idiots. You can't just re-invent a cultral phenomenon and expect to connect with people with the unispired, forgettable designs your interns came up with in a few weeks. What a wasted opportunity. You already have the secret formula for success and you scrap it wrecklessly for an untested formula? You alienate millions of life-long fans in the process and anyone who has a casual appreciation for the original Megatron and his huge arm cannon. It Godzilla(GINO) all over again!

Yes this movie will make millions but it couldve made billions and been a franchise comparable to Spider-man, Harry Potter or LOTR. Instead it will have War of the World success. A medium profit, a forgettable film, and a weakened franchise.

SO STOP LICKING MICHEAL BAY'S SCROTUM SACK. If you defend the insulting Megatron/Starscream changes, the mindless story/plot alterations, and the pointless replacement of ultra-popular pop culture icons like Soundwave then you obviously don't understand the appeal of Transformers in the first place. LOTR isn't just about generic elves. Harry Potter isn't just about generic wicth characters and Transformer isn't about Bay's uninspired generic giant robots.

GINO (1998) = TINO (2007)

Lose the iconic reference, lose the appeal. :down

Real Transformer fans unite! Don't settle for crap made by people who don't understand the popualrity and appeal of Transformers. Don't accept or forgive this huge, forgettable turd of wasted potential.

**** Cardplayer, you spineless Bay apologist.

You think you're sticking it to the man. Really, you're proving fanboys are the smacktards society has always made them out to be.

I'd rather care too much than to care too little. If no one cared about these silly ficitonal stories there would be no Spider-man, LOTR, or Star Wars. It's the fans that elevate these childish dreams into contemporary, iconic myth.

So go "correct" someone who cares what you think you pretentious and judgemental tight-ass. I'll say as I please.

G1 Megatron farts in your general direction.

Second one indeed is gone.

I cannot believe they took the first one out, that was a legitimate entry :cmad:

ShadowBoxing, the first one is a legitimate entry. But, you messed it up with the second one. Although I agree with it, it wasnt very mature and doesn't belong in Wiki.

Don't worry. One need not generate Bad Buzz concerning Michael Bay and this (shaping up to be) horrible movie. Critics and audience reaction will do it all on their own.

The movie will probably achieve War of Worlds popularity. Which is ashame because it could have achieved LOTR success if executed properly.
