Transformers Lookey what I did....

^ ^ ^
Well said.

However, I think the makers of the movie already set the tone for the banter. Whereas many filmmakers responsible for movies discussed on these boards love the source material and are inspired by it-- oftentimes on a personal level-- (even if they sometimes miss the mark a bit like Bryan Singer with Superman), the folks most directly responsible for Transformers (Michael Bay, Don Murphy) are far from being fans.

In fact, they've often seemed to hate the source and suggest its simply a "toy commercial" or dumb cartoon. Their misguided "improvements" on it can only be for the best, right? A very similar idealogy plagued Godzilla 98 where the filmmakers made almost the same EXACT comments during the film's making ("this movie wont be a guy in a dumb rubber suit").

Transformers definately needed to be revamped. But some of the changes in the movie are really obvious parodies. And the filmmakers comments, treatment of fans, and disgust with the fans and source material only serve to rile up the fans more.
So the questions becomes why would Bay agree to do an adaptation of source material he resents?

I'll give you an hint. It starts with an "m" and rhymes with "honey".

Bay probably heard Peter Jackson made 300 million from LOTR and figured a franchise was the way to go. Why else would he adapt something he resents?

Bay himself said (his own words on his message board) that he was not interested when Spielberg approached him. It wasn't until he met with the President of Hasbro USA (who is co-producing the movie) and they struck up a deal concerning toy profits that he agreed.

IMHO, Bay is the guy (jock) that would beat up kids for playing with Transformers.

See I knew people would think I’m siding with bay, I’m not, nor am I siding with the people who are complaining about things

As I am not a fan of transformers and have never been I believe I am in a good position to have a good neutral view on this film

Are the of the designs wrong, yes and no, there are some ones that work well and some that don’t and there are some that people should have been fired for.

But I also believe that people, (like it is with all movies on this board) are now complaining for the sake of complaining.

I still stand by my original post in this thread, what ever side of the fence you stand on with this film, you are entitled to voice your opinion, but all this mentality of "ohh I’ll get him through my internet that will show them to rape my childhood loltehrolf" if just moronic and sad.

You want to voice your opinion do it in an intellectual and competent manor, and hopefully you wont come across a immature spoilt brat

i agree 100% and to be completely honest I'd love to join in the conversations and discuss this movie but I get turned off by the behavior on these boards and usually change my mind halfway through writing a post. I dont mean any offense to the hardcore fans of the property but I dont want to be called a Bay ******* licker just for being excited for this movie. I have respect for your fandom but after the 100th chicken legs explosion comment I'd rather just ignore the posts and sift through to the pictures. I would suggest a "Things youre actually looking forward to in the movie" thread for us that have a more positive outlook on the movie but I dont have high hopes of it lasting long.

I can understand how you feel and start that thread, the topic is "things you like/are looking forward to in the movie" thus anyone coming in bashing it is trolling the topic and will face the same punishment as anyone trolling this topic

You summed up my feelings perfectly. I do the same thing, I'll start to type a post then just give up half way through. I consider myself a loyal fan. I was about five years old when TF's first hit the market and immediately fell in love. I haven't kept up with all the newer incarnations, although I wish I had. I'm also dissapointed with a lot of the changes that have been made for the movie, but overall I'm excited about finally seeing live action TF's. Anyway I was glad to see there are some others out there who feel the same way I do, this place is just brutal sometimes!

Nicholas Meyer had never watched Star Trek before when he signed on to direct Wrath of Khan. He then went on to help bring us Voyage Home and direct Undiscovered Country.

Being a fan is not necessary to produce a classic work.

Actually thats quite true, but Meyer didn't ignore the source material. He still followed the continuety of Star Trek and didn't alter the characters in anyway.

But ST II was written by Harve Bennet, who I think was a fan, and according to Wikipedia "To prepare for the job of producing a Star Trek film, Bennett first screened all 79 episodes of the original Star Trek series in a projection room at Paramount."

In addition Gene Roddenberry was also involved and the whole nautical approach (submarine battle) thet Nicholas Meyer went for in the movie was probably heavily influenced by Gene himself.

The end result is that ST II oozes STAR TREK. It was made with pure love and pure reverence. Is Simon Furmon, Jim Shooter, or Bob Budiansky involved in this movie in any way. Were they even approached??? The answer is No.

Okay guys on a similar note but not as extreme. I have been doing some minor editing to the production page to try an eliminate the biasness and some incorrect information stated as facts on a few areas and it keeps getting Changed back by a poster at Wikipedia with the username Wiki-newbie and in his own words "adopted as his pet project" , and he has been editing the Transformers Fiction section area as well. Wasn't the fiction section a lot more detailed before?

He didn't even know that Prime alt mode was officially a Peterbilt, yet wiki put this guy in control of these sections. He even kept changing the update I made about Prime alt mode being a Peterbilt and I had to tract down the old original post on Micheal Bay's website just to prove to him it was indeed a Peterbilt. That was really stupid when you can see pictures of his alt mode and it's a big Peterbilt.

I'll give you that one

I'm still determined to enjoy it :)
