Leterrier to Direct The Incredible Hulk!
Source: The Hollywood Reporter July 20, 2006

Action director Louis Leterrier ("Transporter" films, "Unleashed") has signed on to helm The Incredible Hulk for Marvel Studios, says The Hollywood Reporter. Avi Arad, Kevin Feige and Gale Anne Hurd will produce the movie, which will return the monstrous superhero to his comic book roots.

The trade says Arad and Feige first met with Leterrier two years ago and were struck by his passion for the Marvel Comics universe. It was that passion that shone through recently when -- after approached to gauge his interest in directing a new Hulk movie -- Paris-based Leterrier went back to his studio and, with the help of an artist, storyboarded two action sequences and developed a take on the monster.

The script is being penned by Zak Penn, whose credits include Marvel's X2: X-Men United and X-Men: The Last Stand.

Ari Arad and Michael Helfant are executive producing the movie, which Universal Pictures will distribute domestically and in international territories.

Casting will begin shortly.

Interesting... I wasn't a big 'Transporter' fan, but I heard Unleashed was pretty decent film with good performances and acting.

We'll see how this pans out.

im happy with the director but the writer for the script sucks.

*Sigh*

Terrible director.

the transporter was action packed and had a simple plot that was executed very well, thats a perfect formula for a hulk film if you ask me.

I'm not too confident about this i have to admit, havent seen Unleashed or Transporter 2 but i hear they are both worse than average.

Hahahaha! You CAN'T stop the Hulk!

Now let the slaughter begin! I want New York destroyed! Hopefully, before dinner.

unleashed was one of the best martial arts/jet li movies ive ever seen....

THIS GUY IS PERFECT...... hes def. a better choice than ang lee.

trnasporter 1 and 2 had horrible storys though.but unleashed is a must see

who the hell said unleashed was bad???

Never trust movie critics. Nine times of out ten they make up their minds about movies before they ever see them. They're paid fanboys in a sense.

Empire and Total Film are the only one's i trust 100%, i agree with 90% of the marks they give to movies.

Transporter and Unleashed were both pretty mindless action movies. This doesn't mean Hulk will be like that. Maybe Leterrier will bring some life to the Hulk, We'll see.

The writer somewhat concerns me. Not a bad choice, I just hope he'll be a little more careful this time. Good thing there's only one central character, not 5 like the X-men.

I just hope we dont get a mindless action movie, that is the last thing i want for this franchise.

I'll hope for the best, but this isn't a choice that inspires confidence. The Transporter flicks were dumb fun, but that's about it. The performances Leterrier got from his actors certainly weren't particularly good, even by the standards of the genre.

Picking Leterrier certainly confirms that the new Hulk film will be an action romp. I just hope it's not too low-brow. One things for sure, Jennifer Connelly won't return under this guy's direction, and I doubt Bana will either.

I also think this indicates that the budget will be substantially lower than on Ang Lee's Hulk. Leterrier isn't a director you hand $ 100 million to, and if they are going to hand him that much, then they're taking a massive risk.

By the sounds of it the budget will be bigger than the first movie, but i know what you mean about Bana and Connelly, the script will have to be super to get them back on this project.

Connelly wont be back but Bana will, they just have to give him a good script, Zak looks like he can write a good one, lets just wait and see what he can do.

Oh the collective creative force of a director who made only mindless action flicks (unleashed was pretty bad too) and the mastermind who gave us instant classics like "Elektra" and "X-men 3". And no Jennifer Connely. Yeah, this movie is pretty much doomed.

Supposedly this guy is a Marvel fan so we're probably in good hands, lets see what he has to say first.

At least we don't have Tim Story like the poor Fantastic Four fans do. (me)

So is there any more word on whether this is a sequel or a restart?
