Lounge 78

Took my aunt to get her eye shot today for macular degeneration today. The idea of getting a needle in the eye is horrifying, but its not that bad. Her eyesight is improving so at least its worth it. :)

i think you'd have to strap me down to put a needle in my eye.

In my mind, I like to think that I swept them this year.
That is "exactly" where you swept the awards. :funny:

Due to our well known sense of decency and fair play, @MissMarvelous and I had already decided to save others further embarrassment and humiliation by withdrawing from this year's Pair of the Year "contest". It was clear to us that it was important to give others a fighting chance and if we ran again, that just wouldn't be the case.

Our official statement is below:

After discussing the matter, Miss Marvelous and I have decided to allow others the opportunity to be SHH Pair of the Year. This decision was made out of our inordinate wealth of generosity and our knowledge that it would be impossible for others to measure up to the standard we've set. While we know others will be both grateful and have a new found sense of hope, if the awards continue, your ongoing admiration isn't necessary. Rather, this is just another example of our magnanimous and noble natures.

That's unfortunate. :(

I don't post as much here like I did 10-15 years ago. It's hard to believe my 20 year anniversary is coming up on here next year.

If I had more time, I would have loved to have done the hype awards if not one else could.
I think I just passed 22 years officially on the boards. Signed up the second I came home from X2 on Opening Day after lurking for a year or two prior...can't remember if I stumbled upon these boards before or after Spider-Man released.

My memory's fuzzy, but I seem to recall these boards were at their peak madness around The Dark Knight and maintained the energy through The Dark Knight Rises before ultimately falling off as we had to be more owner-friendly, leading to a chilling effect and chasing off some of our more *unique* users. I understand the crackdown in hindsight; I just long for those days as there wasn't another place like the Hype Forums back then. There was never a stagnant day here.

Passed my mid-point probation for my new job, which I started in February.

Working for a charity education college working with learners with mental health problems and anxiety etc, with a platform to support, inspire and make them feel safer and more assured.

Lots of variety in the role and projects to get involved with including helping to produce with our learners, a short film based around the theme of hope, born out of suicidal thoughts.

I am honoured, excited and proud to be involved in this production process with our learners and this will be screened in September under the Baton of Hope name with a physical tour of Britain (much like the Olympic Torch) with events highlighting peoples' struggles, personal battles and overcoming the thought and effect of suicide not just to those who have or thought of taking of their own life and the people left behind and it's impact.

Vital subject, be proud of your journey, know your own strength.

I wanted to be involved with this film for my own journey taken and to help the learners with theirs,

ive been a member more than half my life lol

i signed up in 2004 but i know i was lurking in high school so i was around in 2003, maybe even 2002. some of the first posters i remember were @Cyclops, @jaguarr, @BRUTAL. all 3 could prob fall under that "unique" category, but this was my first serious message board and prob my longest relationship haha

It's my longest relationship with social media. I've been on three other boards that have already died. I'd hate to see this one go. :(

Sounds awesome and I hope you keep funded. We need agencies like you more than ever. :)

Dude.....I think you are awesome. I wish we had a billion more like you.....with some variations of course.

My friend and mentor who passed away 15 years ago on May Day, once told me (paraphrasing someone else who you might be familiar with) "If we agree on everything, one of us is irrelevant".

Best of luck always and please keep us updated.

Best always.

My sister is a social worker who helps people struggling with addiction. Her employer's funding got slashed by Trump. She might be out of a job soon. Those who help others should be getting awards and funding, not laid off. :(

I think we're okay with one of you...... :funny:

(Hey.....don't blame me......you set that one up)

My wife is a therapist who has been working in addiction for 20+ years.. It's a very, VERY frustrating profession, but when someone changes their life around, it's incredibly rewarding.

There are some who see people as pluses or minuses on a spreadsheet and don't think "these" people are worth the investment. It's okay for the pharmaceuticals to make outlandish profits, but when addiction hits our communities, it's too bad too sad. I doubt we'll be changing their minds anytime soon.

Makes me miss cats and all their mischief. :p

Good news, friends! My search for a new job is now over after not much luck over the last few years.

I’m going to be working part-time at a place for those with developmental and physical challenges like myself. Will be doing stuff like organizing papers, stapling, and any other tasks I’m given.

Will be interesting to see how it goes once my schedule is worked out.

I’m optimistic it’ll work out! :D

Congrats! Hope everything works out for you.

I’m going to start working on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays next week. Will be about 20 hours a week, should be interesting.
