Same. I kept waiting for Moonlight to get started but then it was over. Not a bad movie, but definitely underwhelming. La La Land has a slow start but it rocked my world in the end.

Shame the sjw folks came after LLL, just to favor Moonlight. LLL was actually my number two of the year. Best film of the year was The Handmaiden, but it got no love.

Also here, I don't get the praise for Moonlight; I think the idea is good, there's a great story to tell there, but as a movie there's nothing particularly impressive about it, at least to me.

I found Lion to be a WAY more interesting movie.

No worries, man.

I didn't mean to single you out, but someone already posted spoilers regarding last night's episode on one of the previous pages. So, it'd be cool if everyone in general was a little more mindful of the fact that some of us aren't all caught up yet.

Totally get it. It usually takes me a long time to catch up on a show unless it's Veep which is pretty much the only thing I watch a day after it aired in US

Richard Linklater is one of the best filmmakers working today. Very few do character interactions and dialogue better than him, he is a genius.

Everybody Wants some is just such a brilliant movie...so so entertaining.

Oh and the guy is definitely an ass man.

Edit : I love certain moments of LLL. As a whole I like Moonlight better though. There is this subtlety with Moonlight...from the acting to the music to the cinematography. So understated, yet so powerful.

Linklater has always been an ok to meh director for me.

Boyhood was better than any sleeping pill.

I do feel like we would get along tho.

I come back to see folks not unanimously praising Moonlight.

I liked LLL better than Moonlight, but I still thought Moonlight was pretty great.

I loved Lion and hated La La Land; Moonlight was better than both of them.

In all honesty, I enjoyed LLL and Moonlight equally, but for vastly different reasons. I never liked how people used a very liberal agenda to prop up Moonlight over LLL. It was mostly white people I saw doing it though, weirdly enough. I think it's just that some have become too erect over the concept of being woke.

At any rate, I found LLL to be more technically well made and just more entertaining. But Moonlight was more impactful and simply meant way more to me.

But whatevs, I'll take The Wailing and The Handmaiden (thanks again for that one BN) over just about any other movies last year.

I'm curious about your thoughts on La La Land. What didnt work for you?

Everything. I have never liked any of the actors, and I've always hated musicals. I hate Hollywood movies about Hollywood. I hate jazz. The story itself was lame too, and neither actor had the singing or dancing talent necessary to do the whole thing justice.

It was an awful experience. I had to stop watching it several times, I was so frustrated and bored.

Man you come up with the best quotes :funny:

I too enjoyed LLL and Moonlight. Moonlight was a story about pain, rejection and growing up to me. While LLL was more about love and career and how they can come in each others way...both movies spoke differently to me about things I relate to. Very different movies, both emotional.

I hate jazz.

Ahh thats understandable. I dont like musicals either. And wasnt a big fan of the singing and dancing. I love Gosling though.

Its the jazz part, and I got to thank Whiplash here, made me love it. I just love Jazz now.

Even while playing GTA i often listen to the jazz radio stations. Tune into Fusion FM sometime. Real good.

Lol seriously though man. I had this white girl trying to explain to me why LLL was problematic for minorities. And the whole time she's bringing up stuff that didn't even happen in the movie. Like damn girl, you took some sociology classes in college and probably watched Boondocks. Cool. But like, reel that **** in a bit. You gettin lost in the sauce trying to make black people like you.

You said everything I wanted to say and more. It was mostly ppl who felt like to me was holding a sign saying ''See, I'm not racist I love Moonlight!''...Moonlight didnt need that type of support tho, it was a good movie on its own, and I still kinda feel it was the reason it won and due to the oscarsowhite thang the year before.

I also feel like our community needs to feel rage for other minorities. As sad it might sound , we are on top of the minority food chain in hollywood, but we rarely do anything to bring the other folks below us up. The asian american leading man does not exist at ALL. Muslim american actors playing terrorist number 2 and 3 on the call sheet etc.

BRAVO for this entire paragraph. As someone neither black nor white, I have to roll my eyes at most of the racial talks in the entertainment industry as it rarely involves more than the two "major parties".

While they've created this dialog of supposed inclusiveness, the rest of the minority groups are decidedly outside that soapbox. Last year's Oscars was particularly eye-opening in how little other races are considered. I couldn't believe Rock had the gall to parade out little asian kids as a joke in a ceremony surrounded by racial controversy. I damn near threw my remote at the screen. :down

Agreed fully. I know some purists don't like it, but whatever. I think Steven Yeun would make for a great Grayson or young Hal. Daniel Wu would be one my choices for an older Hal. And I'd love to see more representation for brown people. Momoa is the start of that I feel. Which is why I'm glad they didn't try to strip away his ethnic identity.

And I'm not just saying to throw in an Asian guy for the sake of it. I just think those guys are really talented and deserve a shot at something big.

As an oriental person I found that shocking as well.

My Netflix Vampirella fancast:

Lawd.

Samantha Robinson-Vampirella

Mads Mikkelsen-Dracula

Mads is going to get a lot of great roles but yes Dracula has to happen for him. He'd be perfect.

Oh was that Love Witch flick any good?

First time gettin to the gym at 5:30 am after a rest week thanks to my messed up shoulder. This sport is ungrateful. :o

Oh was that Love Witch flick any good?

The gimmick of it looking like a 60s retro film wears off fairly quick, and it also has some stuff that pulls you out on purpose? Modern phones and all. Samantha Robinson easily becomes a hnnngh queen tho. Very hnnngh and brave performance. See her dancing around naked, sexy panties, all still while making deadly love potions or participating in satanic rituals. A solid 7/10.

See it for Ms. Robinson.
