Justice League Lounge of Justice - Part 83

Happy birthday! I can't say I agree with your assessment of Superman's treatment given that he's had more films and other projects in other media than most, including Wonder Woman who only started to get the attention she deserves, especially since in just a few weeks there will be a three episode crossover on TV featuring Superman and a new animated film sequel (Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen will play briefly in theaters as a double feature). I've found that whenever one thing wasn't to my liking, like the New 52 comics, there has been something else to enjoy (e.g. MOS). He's not really comparable to other iconic superheroes either considering his history in media starts so much earlier than theirs. I can agree that Superman has struggled to have an unqualified success for awhile, but he's also gotten a lot more chances than most would with his track record.

Thank you everyone! Much appreciated!:yay:

For me, I'm very appreciative for all the iterations of Superman that we are graced with. The frustrations don't come from the attempts and chances. It's more with the latter portion of your post where you touched on how Superman has had the chances over the decades but STILL can't find that sweet spot of success, which means he's being BOTCHED in some way shape or form at some capacity. When you have many iterations of Superman on screen and in other mediums and the consensus is "It's just the Superman curse" or "They still can't get him right " then the percentage's of those attempts at actually getting him right will begin to dwindle and dwindle.

As a fan, I just feel I've been frustrated more often than not and with so many interpretations, there shouldn't be that much angst and the feeling of "They still haven't scratched the surface" with Supes. Most of my gripes come from the big screen. It's fantastic that he could potentially see success on the smaller screen, books and animation but the biggest impact is on the big screen and on that front, WB continues to miss opportunities. Superman fans deserve to see the character flourish in Cinema. That's been a huge missing ingredient that we are still in search of and by the looks of it, will continue to be for quite some time. Something about that pains me. With that said, I will definitely continue to feed my Superman need. To have other mediums to turn to, I'm grateful for.

Did you not watch the trailer?! :hehe:
I really liked the trailer but it was a long time ago lol...can’t remember seeing that many monsters! Maybe that is the proof I need to rewatch asap.

Happy Birthday mate!! Hope you enjoy it.

Finished Venom, it was fun, nothing more, nothing less.

As mentioned by others, the best part was the interactions between Eddie and Venom, and I really enjoyed Hardy's performance, you could tell he was having lots of fun with this.

My favorite thing about this being a big hit??
To have Woody Harrelson as Cletus Cassidy and the possibility that, with this being a big hit, Fleischer and Hardy could have more creative control for the sequel

Happy birthday and congrats on the little one! :D

I can certainly relate on the Supes frustrations.

Totally agreed on the spoiler.

Totally agreed on the spoiler.

Venom 2's either going to be 1) a complete camp-fest or 2) Flescher and co. will take the opportunity to reign it in a little and make a darker sequel.

I think the first option is the most likely which will either earn them even more money or crash and burn at the BO.

Can't wait.

I disagree that the biggest impact comes from the big screen. That used to be true, and to some extent still could be particularly for less exposed characters like Aquaman who can benefit from the visibility of cinema, but we're in the peak TV era where television shows get a lot of attention and allow a character to reach an audience that is in some ways a lot more personal because of the frequency and intimacy that a show provides. I also feel like it's somewhat of a subjective matter as to how one values what has been brought to cinema. I certainly want Superman to be embraced more universally, but I can't complain for my own sake given that, while others didn't like Snyder's take, I did. So, for me, aside from JL, I don't feel too dissatisfied.

Understandable and you're not wrong. Television has its perks, especially in modern days and trust me, I'm glad Superman is featured in those mediums and how he's still being used in front of consuming viewers. Can't complain there.

I think we're both familiar with each others posts and both of us have supported and went to bat for Snyder's Superman. For me, there was a lot of subtle nods to what Snyder was trying to say that made me a fan of his films. But what transpired on the big screen and the nonstop hostility takes a toll on even the most positive of fans. I was invested enough in MoS and BvS to where I wanted to see where this version was going to end up. Years of speculation and anticipation was built up only for it to end in a whimper. Justice League ruined and tore down what Snyder did for those invested fans and for the fans who wanted to see the course corrected Superman in JL has now been told no on that as well so anyway you look at it, there's a sense, for me, of having no closure for something I spent so long waiting and investing in.

I just feel that a bombastic Superman film on the big screen that hits on all cylinders would propel the character to where he should be in the mind of public consciousness, one that would get the magic within the fanbase excited again, just like how 2013 was with Man of Steel. Excitement for Superman was at an all time high then because of his return to the big screen. Shows like the CW bring constructive excitement, but announce Man of Steel 2 tomorrow and watch everything explode to new levels. I wish I was as satisfied as you though, misslane. I'm happy for you and fans who are. For me, there's still a huge chunk I'm missing that hope gets fullfilled one day.

If they announced MOS2 tomorrow, all would be right as rain no doubt. Go all out and just let Cavill shine.

Not a huge fan of that. I think he looks more like a zombie, than a psychotic clown. Though King Shark in a Hawaiian shirt is money.

Part of my desire to see Superman on the big screen again, apart from my love of the character, is the fun we had in anticipating MOS. Perhaps such shared joy and enthusiasm can't be recaptured and maybe it's even a little unhealthy trying to, but I still look back at those times fondly and look forward to the day when Superman appears on the big screen again and we share some of that almost childlike excitement once more.

Stanley Kubrick's Ghost watches Interstellar/

He then wipes the snot from Nolan's face and gives him a nice gentle kiss on his forehead.

Nolan: Did you enjoy it, master?
Kubrick: Eh, I liked the docking scene.
Nolan: Is that it?
Kubrick: Yup.

Nolan's eyes start to fill with tears. ''I gave you everything!''

Kubrick then kicks Nolan in the balls and spits in his tea.

Nolan reaches for his totem and proceeds to spin it/

Keeps spinning, Spinning, Spinning. Fade to black.

Has this been talked about yet?

It could be a coincidence though. Hill and Robbie were in a Scorsese movie and Hill is a new director now so perhaps Reeves likes him.
