I heard someone say that in order to use DD or any of the other Netflix characters on the Disney app or the movies, it would have to be a reboot.

If that’s the case, I’d rather they just retire daredevil, punisher after his 2nd season and the rest from the MCU too. What a shame, man.

It wouldn't surprise me if Disney doesn't use these characters again.

Their about to slap down big money on those shows for Loki, Wanda, Bucky & Falcon.

Eh, I appreciate Netflix cutthroat approach to the mouse. They took the swing first, and Netflix had to react. Now, good luck following the three seasons they did with ANY reboot. You had the perfect DD and Punisher, but refused to add them to the cinematic universe, that is on them in the first place. I'm sure Hawkguy and BW are far more usable than those two. lol

I would also just cut the plug on Jessica Jones. Save the money at this point.

Ok a Blue Beetle is a overdue. Also that Chinese Aquaman trailer is so spoiler filled bus so so sweet.

so why did they cancel it? is it a contract thing or nothing more than a dig at the mouse?

Learn to cherish these past 3 seasons of dark DD material, it ain't happening again for a long time.

This is on Disney, not Netflix. Honestly, **** you Disney.

Really, people being mad at Netflix for this; Disney owns the Marvel characters and they're launching their own streaming service and their removing their MCU movies from Netflix....so it's pretty easy to see who's behind this.

Daredevil is quite probably the best CB live action at the moment; between Disney's efforts to give everything "one tone to rule them all", the cancellation of this (and of course JJ and Punisher to follow) and DC's "hope and optimism"...well, the interesting stuff was good while it lasted, I guess.

On the plus side, Preacher has been renewed for a season 4!! And I still have Legion and American Gods to look forward too....oh, and Watchmen!!!

Why wouldn't it be ''dark'' on Disney+?
Because ever since Disney acquired Marvel and Lucasfilm they've been working hard on the standardization of their products, which from a corporate point of view makes perfect sense to cement your products within consumer's expectations; some of us used to say that all MCU movies "feel the same" (which I still believe, except for the couple of ones where the directors actually managed to endow them with their particular style making them more interesting, but still, same "feeling"); this comes down to pace, tone, structure and pathos (although in this case, "bathos"); now this same "feeling" or "formula" if you will, is being applied to Star Wars too; people might disagree with me, but I feel the same general sensitivities are being applied to that universe and my fear is that the same will be applied to everything in an industry that's seeing "Marvel formula = Success".

This is particularly problematic in an environment where the blogosphere (tragically, today's "leaders of opinion") are turning "feels like a MCU movie" into synonym with "this is GOOD" and enforcing a black/white judgement of movies. Now this is not a dig at the MCU's formula (again, I love it), it's perfectly cool and healthy for different people to like different things, that's just the way it should be....the problem is when there's no different things for different people to appreciate, or even worse, when one big majority tells you "this is good and what's not this, is bad", you not only kill the art form/medium that has survived and thrived for so long based exactly on its variety and innovation, but you end up in "1984" (the book, not the year, obviously.....also obviously, an exaggeration, but you catch my drift).

Jesus man, I used to LOVE the MCU movies, but even if pizza is your favorite thing in the world, you can't eat it every single day without getting sick of it.

/RANT OVER.

I have my reservations of Disney doing another scene of Fisk beheading a guy with a car door, just a hunch. lol I also can't see any new reboot of theirs outdoing some of the fight choreography that we got on here. The great thing about Netflix is the things they let creators get away with. Also, Charlie Cox won the fandom over, can't see myself enjoying the journey of a reboot. Eh. Never even thought of paying for their stream service either, so it evens out. Them bootleg links out there.

I'm not disagreeing with what you guys are saying, but I was under the assumption that Netflix was simply the platform for these shows with no input whatsoever beyond streaming them. Is that wrong?

Nah, I'm pretty sure netflix and Disney had a business deal with license and the image and whatnot, but the writer rooms/offices, staff being paid, locations, actors etc was all money from Netflix. Disney can go ahead and use DD, but can't use this version of DD ( talking about all the actors involved). This is at least what some of them media pundits are saying. Weird red tape type thing. I get the fandom hate for Netflix, but this a cutthroat business, mane. Disney not only doens't sign a new streaming deal for their movies with them, but starts up their own competitive service, which is all valid, but nonetheless a call for streaming war, fam. Anyway, DD went out swinging and on top. Any new reboot the mouse does will NOW be compared to these past three seasons, I don't think they will ever come close.

DD definitely went out on top and with a perfectly satisfying "ending", so at least we have that, a blessing in disguise if you will.

And here's another reason why I'm loving Netflix more and more; yes, they produce and obscene amount of content and they produce a lot of stuff that doesn't click with some people (while clicking with others, so yays for variety!), but they're giving their creative teams solid budgets and more importantly, creative freedom. There is no "formula" to follow and no network or PG restrictions, so creators can do whatever they please in terms of how to tell their stories; with the death of the middle budget movie and the aforementioned standardization of big blockbusters, this is where the good stuff is gonna be found in the foreseeable future.

Taking the bad with the good, ya know? As in, it's a shame I didn't get to see something like Annihilation in the big screen, but I'm happy I got to see something like Annihilation.

The fact that Daredevil and Punisher (as well as Jessica Jones' first season), as well as the massive success of Logan, show that there is an audience and appreciation for more serious subject matter in superhero narratives.

And honestly, I've never bought into the idea that interesting or authorial imprint = gritty. I'm sure the upcoming WW sequel will feel very much like a Patty Jenkins film, just as by all accounts Aquaman feels like a James Wan film.
