You need both absolutely, but it’s about balance. Those mid to late 2000s were perfectly balanced imo. Now I feel like I’m drowning in hamburgers.

I like all these cbm's as much as the next guy, but I gotta admit we are oversaturated with them in the last few years.
hence why we starting to hear some criticisms from all these other directors.
it's just a natural reaction, imo.

I don't think 8 movies a year is oversaturation, but it will come to that if directors tackled other topics and genres on film less frequently.

The thing for me is that outside of just DC and Marvel, there are the additional films that follow a similar formula. Like Universal’s Fast films and Disney’s live action remakes/Lucasfilms productions.

What we’re getting now is just year round saturation of people saving the world. Like I can’t get a showing of The Lighthouse or Jojo Rabbit within 10 miles of where I live (I’m in LA so a drive that distance takes gahdamn forever) and it’s because these sorta flicks have been muscled out of theaters.

Yeah certain other franchises have become virtually indistinguishable from superhero flicks. It’s become a bit much, imo. That’s why I get more excited for blockbusters like Tenet or Dune, because they’ll have the spectacle factor I’d want from a blockbuster, but will feel like a refreshing change of pace from the norm.

But seriously I still can't believe they're dumping her, she's probably the biggest female name/brand/prestige of the whole DC right now.

I get that they interacted offscreen but I have no 'feels' if I didn't see those interactions. Entire TLJ was wasted and nothing was done to reinforce the bonds between main characters, other than Kylo and Rey

That's the whole problem with this trilogy. I have no connection to anything that's happened. 2 movies in and I still don't really know what the story is, it all feels so small and insignificant.

Ah, remember when “ saving the world” movies were special? Remember when Independence Day came out in ‘96? It was a blockbuster must see event, not unlike Endgame. If ID4 came out today it’s get swallowed up lol

they use to show it on our local television channel in the late 80s, divided into 2 parts for 2 days since it was so long. lol
