Lounge of Justice - Part 90

I ain't saying the Academy should've run outta Oscars. But I do feel it was a strong re-introduction to the character and his world. I loved how Webb brought his indie rom-com sensibilities to the story as the chemistry between Garfield and Stone really anchored that flick for me.

And depicting Peter as more of an angsty loner felt more like what an outcast really looked like, at least from a Millennial point of view. Like the whole Boomer-era, pocket protector thang was real old hat to me.

It wasn't perfect, but the stuff it got right outweighed the negatives for me.

TASM is one of the most underrated CBMs imo. The most I've ever identified with Peter.
100% agreed. The lesson in responsibility in that version felt a lot less like the fortune cookie variety to me than the one in Raimi's version. It wasn't just a one-time lapse in judgement from an otherwise goody-two-shoes that got Uncle Ben killed, and it wasn't a case of "Ok I'm responsible now!" when it was all done. He got one much-needed lesson in responsibility - that the more you're able to do, the more you should do - but he still had more to learn. It was an ongoing journey, as all good coming-of-age tales are. Peter getting cocky and thinking he was now powerful enough to take on any threat and protect his loved ones not only parallels the feeling of invincibility all teenagers get when they experience more freedom/responsibility for the first time, but was also true to Peter's attitude leading up to Gwen's death in the comics, too. It just...rang far more true to me than anything in Raimi's version. A shame TASM2 was otherwise such an utter dumpster fire and blatant example of studio meddling, because I did think they nailed that aspect. Would still be interested in seeing what Webb had originally planned for the sequel, and hell, I'd be happy to see him take on another CBM property, though I think he's been burned in that arena for good.

i respect that. Tbh, Garfield was the main turnoff for me. Garfield himself is a great actor but I really chaffed against his rendition of Peter Parker. His very angsty, weird, loner, stuttering, skateboarding Peter Parker....wasnt Peter Parker to me. When he was in costume he wasnt a bad Spiderman but his Peter...i couldnt gel with it. I fee like the perfect Parker is a marriage of Tobey and Holland.

I just could never get on board with Tobey. OR Kirsten for that matter. Raimi gave us some great casting for the supporting roles, but man how I feel he dropped the ball with the leads. Didn't help that I was in high school at the time those came out, and Raimi's idea of a high school nerd (and high school in general) was such a throwback and so outdated that I didn't recognize it at all. Garfield was more like the type of nerd I knew, complete with the chip on his shoulder from being the smartest guy in the room and unacknowledged for it.

Yeah, I LOVED his Doc Ock. That's a big part of why I recognize SM2 as the great CBM it is, even if I don't care for Raimi's vision of Spidey at all.

I liked Tobey's Peter and Garfield's Spidey.

Tobey's Peter felt like someone you could root for as an underdog and was genuinely a good person, whereas Garfield was a little to unlikable for me as Peter. Like, he was a faux outsider, imo, the kind the movies portray as an outsider but we all know he's really the James Dean type.

On the other hand, Tobey's Spider-Man was too bland (though earnest). Spidey should be more sarcastic and quip-laden. I thought Garfield nailed that.

Holland just isn't enough for me as either Peter or Spidey. It doesn't help that he essentially has sidekick vibes and Spider-Man should never just be a sidekick. One of the things that makes him unique is that he's his own hero, the people's hero. Whether he teamed up with the FF, the Avengers, or the X-Men, he still holds his own as his own identity. The MCU changed that too dramatically, imo. I also just don't think he has leading man presence to me. He's sort of just there.

I think Holland's great in the role, and I think he probably feels authentic to contemporary high schoolers, but he makes me feel officially old because I just can't relate to kids today. :funny:

Can we get a #releasetheRaimicut trending of Spiderman 3 if this is going to become a thing?

This is my Snyder Cut. The Editors Cut that was released a couple of years ago wasn't any better or worse than the theatrical and there is still tons of footage from that film in the vault that I've been craving to see for over a decade now.

Though I don't think there is any cut that can be made than Sam would be happy with, I know if he had it his way he would hit the "delete" button and start from scratch.

Yeah honestly the “Raimi cut” would be the one in which Venom is completely excised from the film. I dont think theres any editor alive who could make a coherent film removing all of Topher’s scenes :funny:

True. I'd be fine with that stuff staying in like a 3 hour cut, as long as we got more more stuff such as Flint's relationship with his daughter because Church's performance was really wonderful. There was an entire supporting doctor character cut from the film. An alternate ending in the final battle that was cut was Penny stepping in to stop her dad and ofcourse the alternate recruitment scene with Eddie and Flint at the park.

Basically I'd like to see as much we can from Raimi's original version before the Symbiote and Venom had to make room to chew up the screen time.

This needs to be said more. Lol. I'm all for a new interpretation, but MCU Spidey is just ugly as ****.

My random musing for the evening: in this era of Sequels to Keanu's Greatest Hits...where's my proper Speed 2??? I don't count that boat thing. I know Sandra would do it. She avoids sequels now thanks to the boat thing but she never could resist a Keanu reunion.

I swear if I get shipped off to World War III before I get to see a good Superman movie, I’m gonna be pretty pissed, dudes

Great news! Wife read a Cat video review and got spooked by human cockroaches and Rebel Wilson, so will NOT take our daughter to the movie.

Instead we will watch the live show dvd we bought on clearance in the weekend, last copy of the store lol, make up and staging is much better and less...creepy. Daughter has been wanting to watch Cat for the last two weeks, took her to Jumanji she was like, where are the cats at the credit lol

Mint take her to Dr Doolittle, saw the poster cast, that is one amazing cast lol, they just promoted it as a RDJ show, most of the cast are more critically acclaimed than him lol
