#releasetheWebbcut for TASM2
TASM is one of the most underrated CBMs imo. The most I've ever identified with Peter.
isittho?
100% agreed. The lesson in responsibility in that version felt a lot less like the fortune cookie variety to me than the one in Raimi's version. It wasn't just a one-time lapse in judgement from an otherwise goody-two-shoes that got Uncle Ben killed, and it wasn't a case of "Ok I'm responsible now!" when it was all done. He got one much-needed lesson in responsibility - that the more you're able to do, the more you should do - but he still had more to learn. It was an ongoing journey, as all good coming-of-age tales are. Peter getting cocky and thinking he was now powerful enough to take on any threat and protect his loved ones not only parallels the feeling of invincibility all teenagers get when they experience more freedom/responsibility for the first time, but was also true to Peter's attitude leading up to Gwen's death in the comics, too. It just...rang far more true to me than anything in Raimi's version. A shame TASM2 was otherwise such an utter dumpster fire and blatant example of studio meddling, because I did think they nailed that aspect. Would still be interested in seeing what Webb had originally planned for the sequel, and hell, I'd be happy to see him take on another CBM property, though I think he's been burned in that arena for good.TASM is one of the most underrated CBMs imo. I ain't saying the Academy should've run outta Oscars. But I do feel it was a strong re-introduction to the character and his world. I loved how Webb brought his indie rom-com sensibilities to the story as the chemistry between Garfield and Stone really anchored that flick for me.
And depicting Peter as more of an angsty loner felt more like what an outcast really looked like, at least from a Millennial point of view. Like the whole Boomer-era, pocket protector thang was real old hat to me.
It wasn't perfect, but the stuff it got right outweighed the negatives for me.
Yeah, I LOVED his Doc Ock. That's a big part of why I recognize SM2 as the great CBM it is, even if I don't care for Raimi's vision of Spidey at all.

Can we get a #releasetheRaimicut trending of Spiderman 3 if this is going to become a thing?
This needs to be said more. Lol. I'm all for a new interpretation, but MCU Spidey is just ugly as ****.I liked Tobey's Peter and Garfield's Spidey.
Tobey's Peter felt like someone you could root for as an underdog and was genuinely a good person, whereas Garfield was a little to unlikable for me as Peter. Like, he was a faux outsider, imo, the kind the movies portray as an outsider but we all know he's really the James Dean type.
On the other hand, Tobey's Spider-Man was too bland (though earnest). Spidey should be more sarcastic and quip-laden. I thought Garfield nailed that.
Holland just isn't enough for me as either Peter or Spidey. It doesn't help that he essentially has sidekick vibes and Spider-Man should never just be a sidekick. One of the things that makes him unique is that he's his own hero, the people's hero. Whether he teamed up with the FF, the Avengers, or the X-Men, he still holds his own as his own identity. The MCU changed that too dramatically, imo. I also just don't think he has leading man presence to me. He's sort of just there.
