Those two movies are pretty much interchangeable to me. I like Mangold just fine but he never wows me (no, not even Logan). I think my favorite film of his is still 3:10 to Yuma, though.Ford v Ferrari
A rewatch. Eh, it was kinda a chore to sit through a second time. Yes, the highlight are the racing scenes, but we didn't get enough of them. I just find it a bit hilarious these character cliches with the wife still happened, I sometimes joke around about that type of character in movies, but bloody hell if that character didn't stick out in this one. I actually didn't like Bale here. Some of the scenes are way too ham for me. This ain't a best picture nom to me, but I know I'm the minority there. A solid 6.
I should've rewatched Rush.
Something about Ford v Ferrari's main conceit rubs me the wrong way. I feel like there was a more interesting movie to be made there from Ferrari's POV. Like, this felt like the equivalent of a movie chronicling Disney's quest to crush the acclaimed auteurs and win Best Picture at the Oscars or something...and asking us to root for Disney because of a couple of quirky and talented animators on their team, lol.
