Lounge of Justice - Part 90

Just watched The Hunt. That was actually way more entertaining than I'd expected. Betty Gilpin needs to be in more stuff. She was great.

I really loved that movie and agree that Betty Gilpin should be in more. My favorite part of her performance that sort of said it all about her character:

The part where she's talking to the "military consultant" and does that thing with her eyes as she tells him "I'm kind of....(makes crazy face) and I don't normally have anywhere to put that. (makes crazy face again)...and I work for a car rental company so...

Yeah that part was great.

So New Zealand is shutting down in 2 days. For a month.

S*** getting real here. Thank goodness we bought enough food so don't have to go out for 2-3 weeks.

Signed my name up for contact tracing...hopefully would be fun detective work if I get the gig. Govt apparently funding half a grand per week through business then pay it to us...

Daughter's best friend is leaving mid April, she will be so sad not seeing her again as she won't go to kindy now.

Stay safe everyone.

She's incredible on Glow too.

Still crazy to think how close George Miller's Justice League came to happening before it fell apart at the last minute.

If not for the writers strike it would've happened.
So, Armie Hammer's Bat-cowl in Justice League Mortal was revealed few days back, but some of the concept artwork we have seen earlier already gave us some idea about that.

It's funny the writers strike killed this movie because it was supposed to start shooting but they wanted to polish up the script a little bit more and then the strike happened and during that time Nolan came to them with his idea for Superman (which became MOS) and the rest is history. Funny fact the writers strike is also part of the reason why (among other things) we didn't an SR sequel.

Criterion Channel just added a German Expressionism collection. :mrk:

Can't believe I've never noticed that Dr. Caligari wore Mickey Mouse gloves. Or rather, Mickey Mouse wears Dr. Caligari gloves.

After watching Green Lantern again I still believe this movie wasn't as bad as people made it out to be and the franchise could've easily been salvaged.

ehhhhhhhhhh its bad lol

I mean its not Catwoman or Jonah Hex or Batman and Robin but theres nothing redeeming about it. You can even say “at least the action scenes were good” as even the action was poor.

It has good elements and it's a shame such a great Sinestro was wasted, but it's sort of like the JL movie where it feels like too many cooks and it got hurt in the editing as well so the final product doesn't seem to be what I think it was supposed to be.

I did like the bio weapon look of the suits. It's something Johns was going for in the comics but seeing it live was cool. It helped me reimagine how the GLs powers operate. I think the special effects for some of the aliens was cool (Tomar Re, Kilowog), the constructs looked cool.

But it felt barebones, like too much studio interference. Storylines started but dropped (or unnecessary changes-- having Hal's father survive the crash only for the plane to explode moments later defeats the point, and how could Hal get so far as a test pilot but still have panic attacks in the air?), other plot points just thrown in (at no point did this version of Sinestro seem to be power hungry that he'd go for the yellow ring, but they thew that weird end scene in there); extra villains that didn't fit in, and Parallax as an impersonal cloud monster just didn't work.

There was a much better sci fi epic in there somewhere. Also, I'm a big proponent of having humans react proportionately when they find themselves on an alien planet, like that in and of itself would be a life changing event, but Hal adapts in moments.

Like JL, just a really messy movie imo. But like X-Men last stand, it's re-watchable from a turn-your-brain-off kind of way once you know it's bad and can enjoy it for some of the comic booky action and visuals.

GL legitimately felt scripted by committee (which I suppose it was). Like there was a clear formula and they were following it to a tee, and zero personality was injected into that formula to give it any life.

And while @kguillou is right that you can't even say "at least the action was good," you CAN at least say "at least Mark Strong was the ****ing perfect Sinestro." So it had...something going for it, lol. Just not nearly enough.

I tell you what I would Green Lantern over Captain Marvel (Shazam) or BOP any day of the week. It's not perfect but it's not that bad either.

Can't relate there. I enjoyed both those movies and thought they were well-made with some actual interest and care from those involved, unlike GL.

I just wish they didn't use that stupid villain or cast Peter Sarsgaard. I like most of his roles but that gawd awful shriek he has makes me cringe so much.
