The thing that makes me mad the most is how many people's jobs this ended up costing. I will never say that Gunn shouldn't have suffered consequences for his disgusting comments, but when people discover tweets like this and demand for a filmmaker to be fired for it, do they think of the bigger picture.

I'm fairly certain they had a contingency given they drafted Waititi not too long ago.

Wow, Marvel and Disney have severed all ties with James Gunn

It's not surprising in the slightest. Iger's main policy is family friendly Disney. Rape and pedo jokes are the exact opposite of that.

The weird thing is, apparently Gunn apologized for that stuff some time ago, so it was known... Did not Feige know who is he hiring then?

They don't care about anything but their own ego and the satisfaction of getting back at someone.

Who the hell goes around digging up old tweets? Thing is we can also say and do stupid things. I think what Gunn said was utterly horrible but he apologised for it and I think he should have been given another chance or at least some time. Almost wonder why Disney didn’t just say they were putting him into some sort of counselling or something.

What I don't get is, if Disney knew about these, if they had a contingency plan in place, why then, would you be okay with hiring him in the first place.

the bottom line

Especially when you’re a supposedly clean family friendly place. Disney like to make out they are don’t they but we all know the real truth with them.

Because nobody thought people would go searching for 10 year old tweets to discredit him or that it'd blow up the way it did.

but they were crass jokes just like a lot of his past filmography consisted of

we're living in some dangerous times

This could be a paradigm shift when it comes to the hiring process of big name creatives. Slowly catching up to the social media age.

Yeah, definitely. I was just saying the other day that when I was in high school, teachers would constantly tell us to be careful about what we left on the internet because employers might one day stumble across it. It's something a lot of middle-aged adults haven't grasped because they didn't grow up with the internet the way our generation did.

I am sure there will be a lot of nervous celebrity tweet deleting this weekend.

What a disgusting move by Disney.
Absolutely zero ****ing integrity.

If this isn't corrected, then it's a turning point for MUCH worse.

I really don't feel Gunn deserved to fired over this.

That thread was quickly replaced.
Amber Heard getting me really hyped for tomorrow.

Can you speak to your experience, I mean, the introduction of this character, there’s gonna be Justice League, working with Zack Snyder, and taking the character from that experience into this movie?

HEARD: It’s a very small role in Justice League, Mera is just merely introduced, so I had a very limited role there. And James Wan is very different from Zack Snyder — their way of telling the story, approaching the characters, shooting — so different, you’d be hard pressed to find more different approaches. James is very much doing so much to honor the original integrity of the comic book characters that it’s just a whole other experience working with James.
It's nice to hear that James Wan took plenty of care in such a way.

You mean they hired him knowing that stuff?

This is the thing with today though we see this all the time so you’d think these people involved in filmmaking would use their brains and go back & clear their post history.

A football (soccer) manager names Phil Neville here in the UK got the job to manage the Women’s England team. As soon as he’s been hired suddenly some old tweets a joke or two he’d made in reference to his wife knowing her place etc cropped up. Those were done in jest back in the day but he had to apologise for them. Now I’m not condoning pedo jokes cause they’re next level but jokes that Neville made were clearly in jest. They should never have been brought up. I think with twitter and other social media sites we’ve opened up a door to throw back anything a celebrity says back at them and it’s a little bit wrong imo.

James Gunn...first time I see conservatives get someone fired liberal-style :funny:

Wasn’t this whole mess a retaliation for Gunn going back through Trump’s timeline himself? A certain crowd just sought to prove his hypocrisy.

While I think it’s wild you can damage your career from some Twitter jokes, it’s also a healthy reminder that whatever you put on social media (under your real name anyway) is practically permanent and will be held to you regardless of how old it is. I’ve known some people in my personal life who’ve lost jobs due to some social media drama as well, so it’s not uncommon in this age.

Disney has strict rules about how you can and cannot act when you are their prominent employee. I was expecting this right away but not this quickly.

They can either thank or curse Bill Cosby & Harvey Weinstein. heh

RIP Jon Schnepp. This one hurt. Also, I may be old school on this or this may be a social media thing, but seeing a few of his friends retweet rip tweets about the guy and then go on and promote their gigs in the next tweet right after, just kinda feel a bit like 'yikes' about that. I don't know, it just feels we move on very quickly now. Eh.
