I tried to sweeten the image a bit, but I failed.
It started in the 70s, couldn't be 90s stuff. The first volume bored me for the most part, the second volume and on are better. I'm slowly progressing with the series, still haven't completed the series.

That is true, two great movies that are worth keeping and watching for years to come.

What I meant by 90's Grimdark was the idea that everything was terrible, no one had any hope and everyone was going to die. Everyone was going to be wearing leather jackets, grimace all the time and speak in constant cliches. Like the 90's comics I grew up reading. Since JD was a big inspiration for some of the stupid **** that happened during the 90's, I expected a lot more than they actually used.

Mostly averted up to the point where I'm at in the early 90's but when they do the stupid things, they usually don't take it seriously.

Dredd would have terminated you for this grave error. :yay:

Six months in the Iso-cubes for spreading false information about a Judge. :o

Remember, Dredd may be the law but he doesn't get to make it up as he goes.

I stand corrected. I think my subconscious was trying to protect Aziz by exaggerating to scare him into amending to the correct prescribed course of behaviour.

Tangentially, I got to see Ostrander's handling of Boomerang's origins. Good stuff. I believe the next volume of the classic Suicide Squad is due out this month. The arc should cover
Flagg Jr's resurrection/return. He had died previously setting off a nuke in the Jihad's HQ, Jotenheim. Good issue there.

Ostrander is very underrated. I kind of feel that SS didn't get the praise of other titles of it's time because of the artists that worked on it.

I've been playing Assassin's Creed Origins lately. It's a solid game. I found a hippo nest and killed its leader. The King Hippo, as it were.

Looking forward to that. I'm quite behind on AC titles though now.

This is the first one I've played since 4. It doesn't seem like you need to play through the others to enjoy it. You could probably skip straight to it, since people seem to say that it's leaps and bounds better than Unity or Syndicate. It is fun.

Same here. I might have to do that just because this looks so good. Will eventually go back and finish everything though.

I stopped playing at Black Flag. I've played most of them up until then but despite how much fun the sailing missions were, I found that it was becoming boring and tedious.

I love climbing over the architecture as much as the next guy but after Desmond died I found the plot just kinda wandered off and didn't do a huge amount to progress beyond Templars vs Assassins. Even then it was just a back and forth without much story progress.

I stopped playing Revelations before the second or third Altair memory, never played a newer title in the series.

I've played but not fully completed quite a few of the recent ones, except the last 2 which I haven't even bought yet. Just a time issue really as I would play through these to see the story even if they weren't as good as previous games in the series. AC2 is still my favourite although I really liked the ally element from Brotherhood.

It's a fun huge game, and the main story and the gameplay itself can be enjoyed without playing the other games. But there are some significant reveals in the main story and side stuff linked to Desmond and things that have happened in previous games. The modern day stuff has links to previous games and the movie as well. And the ancient mechanisms in some tombs will be unintelligible gibberish for anyone that's never played AC1- Unity. But anything someone doesn't understand can be explained by a wiki or Google search.

I'd recommend it. Especially since it will probably be $35 Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

Ally element and riding a horse in town are two of my reasons for preferring Brotherhood to 2, I also loved the rope speed ride to some roofs and the underground transport between different checkpoints in the city.

All makes sense.

Evening all Loungers.

Was thinking about Rey again and am putting this wrinkle in my parentage theory.

Okay, my theory started off with the idea that she was a grand daughter of Emperor Palpatine. In the aftermath of the battle of Endor and the Emperor's death, perhaps even years later, the New Republic discover perhaps on some planet or system the Emperor had hidden, the living family of the Emperor. In this scenario the Republic wants to eliminate anyone having a claim to the "throne" so to speak. The family is killed and somehow Luke intervenes and saves the last remaining family member, which is Rey. Now the timing would mean this would take place many years after the fall of the Empire. While it could happen that way it would mean the New Republic was in the full swing of it's ascendancy, given Rey's age. For whatever reason I began feeling that was off.

I started ruminating a bit and have now added this into the mix...

Again let's go with the idea of Palpatine having heretofore unknown offspring. Again, let's assume that after the Battle Of Endor, very soon after, that the Republic/Alliance forces find them wherever they might have been hidden away. Let's assume that they feel the need to end the Emperor's line to stop any future "heir" from coming out of the woodwork later on. They kill the family members leaving one and again Luke intervenes. Only now the daughter is closer in age to Luke. This woman, shielded from her father's evil due to the need to be kept hidden is not a Force user, or perhaps is, in any case Luke and she end up falling in love. Perhaps Luke keeps her identity secret or making the same mistake his father did keeps the marriage hidden from public knowledge, maybe even confidants like his sister and Han. However it plays out they conceive a child. At some point, the mother is killed. Could be vengeful parties in the Republic, could be agents of the First Order in an attempt to capture her and the child so they would have a figurehead, an heir to Palpatine. Luke mourns his loss and realizes that this is what would follow his daughter all her life. She would be caught between the Republic and the First Order. Thus, he hides her away and hopes she can live a life of anonymity, as he realizes the raw power she could likely develop as she got older. Because... She is the true child destined to bring "balance". She is the heir to the legacy of the Jedi and the Sith as the daughter of both lineages. Luke's failures that haunt him then are two fold. He failed to see the turn of his nephew and he failed to see the consequences in falling in love and marrying the daughter of the Emperor. And now, it is up to Rey to pull him out of his exile. But Luke is wary because he doesn't know how the information that she is the heir to the Emperor will affect her, as he has seen what the legacy of Darth Vader and the Sith did to his nephew Ben.

Thoughts?

Anyone?

I like the theory, but there is something that gnaws at me. This is based on an admittedly periphery glance, but it seems like Star Wars Battlefront II's storyline revolves around

a plan put in place by the Emperor before he died to destroy the Empire in the event of his death. If I followed it right, the Emperor never designed the Empire to survive after his death, since he planned to unlock the secrets of death. So, he set a plan in place that would wipe out the Empire should he fall down a well and explode. As far as I know, that's canon with the novels and **** too. But I haven't really followed it too closely, so I could have literally every single detail wrong.

I feel like if the Emperor started having Lil' Palpys, that would go against his plan. I brought up the clone thing when you first posted the theory, but I think that would be off too. A mind-twister, that's what it is.

That came into my calculations as well. Sheev being a Sith Bastard was looking for immortal control over the galaxy but I think early into his reign he had to court the reactionary forces in the Empire. So... Senator Palpatine had to be the wholesome politician. As such he had a "front"
family. He could do away with them when he figured out the secret to immortality but they served a purpose in keeping the story up of the Naboo Senator that became elevated to dictator. The general population had no idea about his Sith origin after all.

Did he keep up the front though? I thought once the Empire was established, he just went into seclusion to work on Sith things, and left the running of the Empire to the Moffs, and left the telemurdering to Vader.

I think to again, to keep courting the forces in the Empire that made his reign possible he was keeping up appearances, both for the elites and for the general populace. He could bide his time until he worked out using Dark Side power to grant him his immortality. So he kept the family around,
but at arms length. They were secluded away "for their safety" but were known to the galaxy at large. He could use them as sympathy ploys in that way.
"My own family is under threat from these Rebel Extremists!" yadda-yadda.
He wasn't really a hands on dad so to speak and maybe the wife was offed at some point, again, to play to the masses. Hey, for we know he was looking originally to fuse his line with Anakin's. He just didn't foresee that lava bath he would take. "By God... My daughter is gonna marry somebody with legs,
damnit!"

Rey is the daughter of Joruus C'baoth.
