Awesome catch, Magnar! I figured that production photo was from the same scene, but I didn't notice the cloak outline behind him. I have to admit I am a little saddened that Luke does not appear to be wearing traditional jedi robes here (In the trailer, his cloak is sleeveless).

The OT robes worn by Ben and Anakin's force ghost were awesome. I totally agree about the PT version though. They looked cheap and fake.

EDIT: Actually, we could be getting a hybrid now that I think about. Luke's Jedi uniform had a sleeveless cloak too. We could be seeing his ROTJ outfit in more traditional Jedi colours like Ben's robes. So everybody wins...

Like what people said, it's only nice to see Mark in the Star Wars universe again, but it's also nice that it pushed Mark to get healthy again. Paycheck and weight loss equals win-win!

It's strange because I recognize that the costume designs in the Prequels were beautiful at times, but..also felt too.. fashion showy. Even the Jedi Robes.

I like to think of the fashion from the prequels as being a visual shorthand for both how stable the Galaxy is, but also its stagnation. There's a lot of ceremonial looks in the prequels, and no one really wears simple clothing. All of the Senators, the politicians and background characters have fancy written all over their clothing. Even the Jedi robes have a certain uniform and stylish cut that goes against the simple look they're going for.

In contrast, there's a very utilitarian look to most costumes in the OT, with most non-military having various pockets, being tailored for comfort, or being an actual spacesuit. This is partially a setting thing, with war zones not known for their fashion, but it's also a style. Even Palpatine's rocking a simpler robe.

If that's Luke in the trailer, it looks like he's wearing a simple long sleeve shirt like Han would, with an older, simpler cloak on top. I like that. I like the idea that Rey even wears more rough clothing seemingly designed to deal with heat.
