Only one has ever been turned back from the Dark Side. Anakin. The odds are unrealistic.

Actually, in the canon both Asajj Ventress and Quinlan Vos came back from the Dark Side.

And I'm not particularly tied to that theory. I don't want Luke to ever die. But if he does, then I'd be more convinced than ever that Kylo will ultimately pull a Vador in the end. There were too many hints of it.

And I don't think the ideal scenario is Rey and Ren or Rey, Finn and Ren having to gang up on Snoke because Master Luke is dead. Luke still has purpose, which is to organize, train, and lead the new Jedi order, like Yoda did. Yoda even fought the Emperor and he still didn't overshadow Anakin and Obi Wan.

And I really doubt Kylo Ren will be the only Sith apprentice within the trilogy. I suppose by Episode IX, Rey could conceivably become a Master but being able to lead the Council is on another level. There's just no good reason to kill off Luke.

Only thing I would change about the movie would be giving Luke slightly more of a role. And a line at the end rather than just a look. Other than that the movie was perfect.

I wouldn't have minded Luke pulling an ObI by telling Rey 'Hello There' and then the sad stare once she pulls out the sabre

I think Luke presence was throughout the movie. The First order is obviously concerned about him given that he is a very powerful jedi that will stand in the way of defeating the enemy.

It may be possible he did have a line or two but they decide not to use it just to keep it a mystery

I think normally its a temp ban for a spelling mistake like that... ;)

If you kill off the mentor, the hero has to stand by her/his self, which is a dramatic reason to kill Luke off, but it doesn't mean it's inevitable. It's why I think he will die though I hope he doesn't.

But is that what's best for the new Jedi Academy? I think not. I hope Lucasfilm sees it that way but I get what you're saying. That's why I started that thread in the Sequels section. You can smell that **** coming.

I think Luke will live through the whole trilogy and will then get a big death scene on Tattooine as one of the last shots of the trilogy. Something along the lines of, he goes back to what's left of Ben's hut and is sitting outside watching the suns set and Obi-Wan, Yoda and Anakin appear and usher him into the next world.

Mark kind of looked like Keith Szarabajka in Force Awakens. Like very similar faces and hair.

I think everybody's suggested that Godfather III-esque ending over the few years. It's one of the more popular ones, along with "Give Ewan an 'Obi-Wan on Tatooine' movie, Lucasfilm!" :D

I don't. I think he lives through it all.. The point of this series is they (bad guys) want to destroy the last Jedi .. I think for this series to work Luke must live and train new Jedi. Killing someone for shock value really does nothing, and that's all it would be at this point. I think Kylo dies.. It's just a matter of how and when and how Leia will respond to it, which is why I think it happens in episode 9 at the end.

I'm still waiting for someone to post a picture of that shot of Luke after he turns around and puts his hood down. It's amazing what Mark Hamill can do with just a facial expression. And I loved the long hair.

I just hope Disney makes it up to Mark Hamill for making him lose all that weight and using him for about 30 seconds of screentime. He better have a big role in the next movie.

Should I bust out my 'duh' card?

Not sure if serious, but I'll bite anyway.

That's pretty much a dead-cert, nailed-on, given?

Really don't think the character is going to pile on the pounds in the remaining movies [unless eating is his characters way of grieving] so his weight loss is for 3 movies, not just one.

So he trains Rey, and his job is done.

He can go once Rey reaches Jedi Master status and has enough experience to be able to teach to the same standard as Luke/Yoda. I will cry.

Rey is to Thor as Luke is to Odin. That's one way to look at it.
