EPISODE 1, CHAPTER 1

DAY 1 - 12:57 AM

It’s a gorgeous night in Miscfilms City. Inside a small hotel suite near the heart of downtown, a young man by the name of Jay puts on his jacket as he prepares to leave the room. His face is solemn and cold, an expression of hurt stains his relatively handsome face. The television is on, displaying CNN.

ANCHORWOMAN: …Elsewhere, Kane Wells began his permanent prison sentence after being found guilty of….

Jay flicks off the television, picks up his duffel bag, and walks out.

DAY 1 – 6:30 AM

Across town in a small, dark apartment, Norman Storm’s cell phone rings, the pulsating tone nearly piercing. Half asleep, he reaches for the phone but knocks it off the nightstand along with a picture. He groans with his head face down on his pillow. Norman reaches down for the phone, still ringing, and answers.

NORMAN: (half asleep) Yeah?

A pause as he listens on the other end. He checks the time on his phone.

NORMAN: Yeah. I’ll be there in twenty minutes.

He closes the phone, then reaches down and picks up the picture off the floor. He runs his thumb across the picture frame as he stares at the image. It’s a picture of he and a beautiful young woman dressed in wedding attire in front of a chapel. Norman lets out a deep sigh, places the picture on the nightstand, and gets out of bed.

**********
DAY 1 – 1:14 AM

Jay walks across a park. It’s empty, besides the occasional vagrant sleeping next to a rusted trash bin. There’s a man clouded in a shadow sitting on a bench. Jay makes his way to the bench and sits down next to him. The man is Fist, and he speaks slowly, carefully dictating every syllable.

FIST: How motivated are you to your cause?

JAY: I’ll do anything for justice.

FIST: Really? Would you die for what you believe in? Would you end your own existence to promote your belief? Some say yes without hesitation. But many don’t really have what it takes in their hearts. Desperation and true dedication are two different things. I just want to know if you’re dedicated.

**********
DAY 1 – 6:40 AM

Bella grabs her car keys off the table as she makes her way out of her one bedroom apartment downtown. As she closes the door behind her, she’s greeted by her landlord, Mr. Gini, a Super Mario look-a-like with a thick black mustache and a spaghetti stained blue shirt.

BELLA: (startled) Oh! Mr. Gini. How’s it going?

GINI: Bella, Bella, Bella. Always with the “How’s it goin’?” I need something from you.

BELLA: Um….I’m kind of heading off to work. Can this….

GINI: Rent, Bella Bella! Rent!

BELLA: I’m getting paid today, Mr. Gini. I’ll have your rent money today. Please, but I’ve got to go.

GINI: Go then! But today! Rent! Today! Or I kick you out like Chuck Norris. Kick!

BELLA: ….Um, yeah. Okay. Thank you, Mr. Gini. You have a good one.

Bella sighs as she heads towards the elevator.

**********
DAY 1 – 1:16 AM

Back in the park…

JAY: Listen to me. For what they have done to my father….they must pay. And I am willing to do ANYTHING to ensure they do. If you’re somehow trying to test my willingness to do this, you’re wasting your time.

The Fist grins.

FIST: Good, good. I like it. I think this just might be the start of a very fruitful partnership.

A good thirty yards away from Jay and Fist on the bench, someone cloaked in all black hides in a row of shrubbery, snapping pictures.

**********
DAY 1 – 6:45 AM

Hunter is out of bed, buttoning up a white shirt as he looks down at a raven-haired woman on his bed. She’s naked, covered only with the silk sheet of Hunter’s bed. He continues to put on his clothes.

WOMAN: (impressed) You lived up to the hype.

HUNTER: I do what I can.

WOMAN: Round Two tonight?

HUNTER: I’ll see how I feel.

WOMAN: Are you serious?

HUNTER: Busy day today.

WOMAN: All the more reason. What do you do for a living, again?

Hunter pauses as he slips on a black coat.

HUNTER: I’m an accountant.

WOMAN: Must be boring.

HUNTER: Like watching paint dry. You can let yourself out.

Hunter leaves.

Day 1 – 7:30AM

In the heart of Miscfilm City’s business district sits the unmarked M Hype-5 building. Inside, the swipe of a keycard unlocks an electronic sliding door, opening up to what is referred to as the grid, an octagonal shaped room filled with computers, desks, and chairs. Most of the officers are already in front of their desktops catching up on the latest. Meanwhile a select few enter inside a meeting room.

Hank Byrdmann sits at the head of a rectangular table with Norman, Bella, Hunter, and the spectacled Tzarinna sitting along the sides. A plasma screen along the back wall of the room displays the mug shot of a sophisticated-looking man in his 50s.

BYRDMANN: A few months ago, this man, Kane, was arrested and permanently banned for a really nasty sex photo scandal involving a few respected members of Community SV. Kane has a son by the name of Jay.

Byrdmann motions to Tzarinna, who passes out a group of sheets to the rest of the team.

TZARINNA: Some digging on the son came up with this.

BELLA: Medical records?

HUNTER: Looks like the guy had some serious anger management issues in high school. Dude stalked the vice principal for not giving into the student council’s request for more water fountains.

BYRDMANN: The Defense Branch were concerned about the emotional stability of the son after his father’s trial, so we put loose surveillance on him. And this is what we got...

They all turn to view the flat screen display. On it, a picture of Jay in the park sitting next to The Fist.

HUNTER: That’s Fist. The guy’s a known terrorist arms dealer. Isn’t he on the Moderator’s Most Wanted List?

BYRDMANN: He isn’t, but the group he’s been associated with is one of the most notorious terrorist groups in the world. They were responsible for the bombing of the CINO Building back in 2004. Bloody hell, we’re still sifting through the wreckage from that one.

BELLA: Why on earth is this guy talking to someone like Fist?

NORMAN: He’s obviously planning something. What that something is, we don’t know.

BELLA: So why don’t we just pick him up now? If we know he’s making contact with these people, why risk letting him slip out of our sight?

NORMAN: There’s not enough evidence to bring the guy in for merely having a conversation with an arms dealer. They could be discussing the stock exchange for all we know.

TZARINNA: And, well, we haven’t had much luck locating any of the men higher up that terrorist network’s chain of command. Jay’s father had a lot of money...

NORMAN: (continues Tzarinna’s thought) And a lot of money means a lot of power. And influence. If Jay can make contact with someone like Fist, who knows what else he can lead us to.

BYRDMANN: We need to keep heavy surveillance on Jay, and find out what exactly he’s planning, what the target is, or...who the target is.

NORMAN: But Jay isn’t our concern, is he? Our concern is whatever big fish he leads us to. He’s an amateur, in over his head. We let him do the work for us. He can potentially take us straight to the top of that network.

BYRDMANN: Precisely. Now we also have a woman, a friend of his from college who we believe may know him better than anyone else at the moment outside of his father. Her name is Sophia Prime. We need to get close to her.

HUNTER: (grins) I think I can handle that. Is she attractive?

BYRDMANN: She’s hideous.

Hunter shrugs.

BYRDMANN: We also want to try to get someone close to Jay himself. Getting inside and bugging his father’s mansion wouldn’t be overly difficult, but if we could get an agent inside and with him...

NORMAN: …We could potentially deter him from whatever he’s planning and make him give up whatever contacts he now has. I think Bella can handle that.

Bella sighs.

NORMAN: I think we have to take a step back here and look at this guy’s state of mind right now. His father was the only family he had. He’s got all the money in the world, and yet he’s meeting with terrorists. You have to believe he’s highly motivated to do whatever it is he might do, and he’s got the resources to not only do it, but to disappear once it’s done.

BYRDMANN: So let’s take extra precaution with this one, ladies and gentlemen.

And with that, the group exits the meeting room, each making their way towards their respective desks in the grid. Hunter is making his way to his desk when Bella stops him in private.

BELLA: Hey, Hunt? Don’t you think this is just a tad bit, I don’t know, inappropriate?

HUNTER: What’s inappropriate?

BELLA: I mean, every time there’s some guy on a case we’re working on they always send me in, usually in a mini-skirt, to get something out of them. Don’t you think that’s, I don’t know, sexist?

HUNTER: Well, look at it this way. Now you know how I feel.

Hunter smirks as he walks away to his desk. Bella shakes her head, grinning.

DAY 1 - 11:49 PM

Jay walks through the shadows of a dingy warehouse on the outskirts of Miscfilms City. His head is seemingly on a swivel as he peers around the large vacant room.

FIST: The man of the hour.

Jay recognizes the voice and turns to find Fist, standing with another man in a leather jacket and a petite, attractive woman in her late twenties.

FIST: Jay, this is Ms. Luvr. She’s the secretary for a chief moderator by the name of Mr. Dogglips. The same chief moderator who put your father away for life.

LUVR: That is, I WAS his secretary.

FIST: (to Jay) He fired her.

LUVR: For something I didn’t do. The guy was a real ass.

FIST: You see, being that she was the secretary for a high ranking government official, she knows more about Mr. Dogglips than he knew about himself. Things like, his schedule, meeting times....habits. In other words, you just found your golden ticket, my friend.

Oh hell yeah!, where to start. :wow:

First the layout, love the way you have structured the chapter, the use of the fonts and banner style heading is classy.

The way you use this chapter is gold, the introductions to the main players is superb and flows naturally, it gives us a little of their personality and a clear view of what the story is and what the M Hype-5 are about as well as the bad guys roles and motives.

Loved the charm of Bella's introduction and mine was just how i'd like it.

The briefing room was brilliantly written, it lays out clearly everything we need and leaves no confusion, the injection of humour is also well handled as it doesn't lose the serious tone of the overall story.

loved the bit with Bella and Me outside the office and how i shrugged off the fact the broad was ugly for the good of the mission. :woot:

Great start.

Hunter leaves the ladies wanting more. :meow:

Very nice set up, good smooth flow. Love the little shout outs to the Spidey movies. :cwink: These folks are getting down to business.

That's all? Damn you, it left me wanting more.

I like how it takes place in "Miscfilms City"

You should have one take place in the RPG forum. We've got some characters down there to say the least.

Very nice cmill, can't wait for more!!

I appreciate the feedback everyone.

Very nice cmill, can't wait for more!!

Good stuff, man

That's all? Damn you, it left me wanting more.

Thanks guys.

I like how it takes place in "Miscfilms City"

We'll be seeing other "cities" in the very near future. ;)

Hunter leaves the ladies wanting more. :meow:

Yes. Yes he does. :D

Love the little shout outs to the Spidey movies.

Ironically, I've got a good Spidey reference waiting for ya in the next chapter. :spidey:

I  Bella. Her landlord reminds me of Mr. Ditkovich.

I  Bella too. She's going to be a fun character to explore.

The way you use this chapter is gold, the introductions to the main players is superb and flows naturally, it gives us a little of their personality and a clear view of what the story is and what the M Hype-5 are about as well as the bad guys roles and motives.

That was definitely the goal of this one, and I'm glad to know I accomplished it.

Next chapter we'll be up tomorrow, kids.

cmill, this is an EXCELLENT start! I love the mysterious effect that keeps you interested and wanting more... to know what is really going on... what Jay's plans are and why does he have a thing for water fountains... etc. I also love that characters... instantly! You did a GREAT job in showing their personalities. And the setting is wonderful for almost everyone who reads, if not all, can relate to.

Btw, Bella seems to have a good job and yet she can't pay her rent on time? I think you need to give her a raise! Mr. Gini sounds adorable and hunter... Rrrrrrr!

BELLA: I mean, every time there’s some guy on a case we’re working on they always send me in, usually in a mini-skirt, to get something out of them. Don’t you think that’s, I don’t know, sexist?

HUNTER: Well, look at it this way. Now you know how I feel.
What a man. *sigh*

Lmfao.
Hunter's thing with the woman & saying he's an accountant reminded me of Burn Notice. & Michael Westin is fiiiiiine.

EPISODE 1, CHAPTER 2

DAY 2 - 10:09 AM

It’s a still morning in Miscfilms City. Hank Byrdmann is walking underneath the Daisy Bridge, tightening his coat in the face of a cooler than forecasted morning chill. He approaches a man standing in a dark brown coat facing the Hollow Wood River. The man is Moore Fire, a chief moderator in the United Hypedom.

FIRE: Chilly morning.

BYRDMANN: Cold as hell.

FIRE: I still don’t understand that phrase.

BYRDMANN: It’ll come to you some day.

Fire grins. The two seem to share a good friendship.

FIRE: What can I do you for, Hank?

BYRDMANN: Do you remember the Kane trial?

FIRE: Yeah. The man was a sick puppy. Nearly cost the respectability of some of my favorite people. Not that my personal preferences in individuals really matters, but I was glad he was handed a life sentence.

BYRDMANN: We’re keeping tabs on his son, Jay. We received a photo of him yesterday morning sitting on a park bench with a suspected arms dealer.

FIRE: And you believe he may be plotting some sort of revenge scheme?

BYRDMANN: It’s entirely probable. We’re putting in a suggestion that you and the rest of the administrative staff take extra security precautions until we find out what he’s plotting.

FIRE: If anything.

Byrdmann gives him an “Oh, come on” look.

FIRE: Look, we can’t respond at a large scale to something like this without any real evidence.

BYRDMANN: We’ve done more for less.

FIRE: Times have changed. There are more moderators governing this country than ever before, more communities to govern, more people to officiate. If we shut down and hide every time some random loony sends us a death threat we wouldn’t even be in operation anymore, would we?

BYRDMANN: Moore, this is bigger than a death threat. This is a motivated and resourceful young man meeting with a known terrorist.

FIRE: And I understand that. But we can’t make a move until we get something more concrete. I know it may sound crazy, but that’s just the way it is. It’s policy.

BYRDMANN: (sighs) Policy. Can’t get enough of it.

**********
DAY 2 – 12:32 PM

Bella and Hunter follow Norman into the M Hype-5 tech room, a brightly lit garage filled with computer motherboards, camera gear, and assorted gadgetry. Aster is sitting at a desk preparing a pair of ID cards.

NORMAN: (to Bella and Hunter) You’re both going undercover as students.

Aster hands Norman the ID cards.

NORMAN: Hunt, you’re going to be John Blaze. Bella, you'll be Mary Watson. Now John, you’re going to be an old classmate of Sophia’s from high school, although she doesn’t actually remember you. Obviously that’s because you don’t exist, but we’re going to give you a tip sheet filled with things you’ll bring up in conversation that will make you seem familiar. And for you Mary, you’re going to be a law student who sympathizes with Jay’s situation. You believe his father was unlawfully sentenced. So try to get inside his head. Unravel him. I’ll have a control van near the mansion for assistance.

HUNTER: Wait, how come I don’t get a control van?

NORMAN: Because at the moment a college girl presents less of a clear and present danger to national security than a ticked off rich kid who's meeting with people who kill for a living.

HUNTER: ...Or you just have a lot of confidence in me.

NORMAN: Whatever fuels your car.

Hunter grins and heads out of the room with Bella.

**********
DAY 2 - 2:36 PM

On the campus of Hype A&M, Sophia Prime makes her way across a busy student courtyard, her short brown hair glistens lightly in the afternoon sun. She hears a voice call from behind her.

HUNTER: Sophia?

Sophia turns to see Hunter walking up towards her in a baseball cap and slightly baggy clothes. She doesn’t recognize him.

SOPHIA: (cautious) Yes?

HUNTER: It’s John. John Blaze? We went to high school together. Senior year English.

SOPHIA: I don’t…I don’t remember you…

HUNTER: Ms. Estes. 3rd period. You sat all the way up front. I…well, I sat all the way in the back.

SOPHIA: That’s weird. I don’t remember you at all.

HUNTER: Oh, wow. I didn’t know you went here. I always remembered you in class. You were, like, the resident Shakespeare expert. I hated King Lear, but I always kind of enjoyed coming to class for discussions 'cause you would actually make it sound kind of interesting.

A small smile passes over Sophia’s face.

SOPHIA: Yeah, well. I’m not really into Shakespeare anymore.

HUNTER: Oh, really? What happened?

SOPHIA: Things change.

A sudden chill seems to pass over her demeanor. Hunter can feel it.

HUNTER: So what are you majoring in?

SOPHIA: You know, I’m really in a rush, Jake…

HUNTER: John. Well, um, okay. Well what are you doing later, I'd like to...

SOPHIA: I'm really busy, I'm sorry.

Sophia walks off briskly.

HUNTER: (under his breath) Damn.

A moment later, an idea pops into Hunter's mind. He picks up his cell phone and dials a number.

HUNTER: Tzar, I've got a request. I need Sophia's dorm room number.

**********
DAY 2 – 3:12 PM

A white van sits parked outside the mansion of Kane Wells. Inside, Norman and Aster sit with headsets on while Bella adjusts her makeup.

BELLA: Ugh. My landlord is beginning to irk me.

NORMAN: Is he still pestering you about the rent?

BELLA: Everyday. I payed him last night, but I'm still two months behind. This job doesn't pay nearly as much as it should.

NORMAN: People who are actually important to society rarely are compensated to the level of their worth. But we signed the contract.

BELLA: Don't remind me.

NORMAN: (to Aster) How long has Jay been in the house for?

ASTER: He got in last night at about two in the morning. He hasn't left since.

NORMAN: Okay, it's go time.

Bella exits the van and walks towards the front door of the mansion. She adjusts her skirt, tightening it to accentuate her derrière. She rings the doorbell.

On the other side of the door, Jay looks through the glass to see the attractive Bella standing in the doorway. He opens the door.

JAY: Can I help you?

BELLA: Hi. My name is Mary Watson. I'm a law student over at...

JAY: Is this some sort of solicitation? Because if it is, I want you to get the hell off my property.

BELLA: No, no. It's not that at all, actually. I wanted to talk to you...about your father.

Jay is perplexed.

JAY: Excuse me?

BELLA: I know who you are, and who your father is. I'm a law student, and I was following your father, Kane Wells', trial. I just drove here to tell you that I think your father was wronged.

Jay is intrigued.

BELLA: I mean, they didn't have a case against him, the evidence was incredibly weak. And I just feel that our justice system failed and put a man in prison without giving him a fair and proper trial that could've proven his innocence.

JAY: And, what do you stand to gain by coming over here and telling me this?

Back in the van, Norman and Aster listen in.

BELLA: I'm sorry, I don't understand.

JAY: Why come over here and tell me this? What do you gain?

BELLA: I'm not trying to gain anything. I'm trying to reach out to someone whose loved one has been taken away from them by our corrupt judicial system. And if there's anything I can do to help you fight this injustice, I'd love to help you.

JAY: There's nothing you can do. Now go.

BELLA: Wait, so you're just going to sit there and let this country put your father away for nothing?

JAY: (reiterates) There's nothing you can do.

BELLA: And what exactly are you going to do?

JAY: What do you want to do, huh? Start a petition?! A protest?! Huh? What does that solve? These people don't want to listen.

BELLA: So you make them.

JAY: And how would you do that?

BELLA: By any means necessary.

Jay laughs at this.

JAY: Surely, you don't mean that wholeheartedly.

BELLA: I don't have to repeat myself.

Jay senses a sincerity in Bella's voice.

BELLA: An innocent man was put in a jail cell for the rest of his life. I don't care who he is, or if I knew him or not. I'm not going to sit back anymore and watch this country treat citizens like pawns in some political game. I want to help you...by any means necessary.

Bella reaches down into her purse, finds a card, and hands it to him.

BELLA: That's my phone number. When you're ready to fight for your father's freedom, I want you to call me. I want to help you.

Bella walks off. Jay watches her as she leaves.

**********
DAY 2 - 5:43 PM

Back inside M Hype-5 Headquarters, Norman and Hunter walk side-by-side as they make their way through a hallway towards the grid.

HUNTER: I don’t know what we were expecting to get out of this girl, but I can tell you it sure as hell wasn’t what I was expecting.

NORMAN: What’d you find?

HUNTER: You want my personal sensitive therapist assessment? Something's off about her.

NORMAN: How do you mean?

HUNTER: Just talking to her. I could physically feel the barrier between us. I mean, yeah, I was a stranger to her, but not even my charm could break through that chick. So I did a sweep of all the major social networking sites; MySpace, Facebook, the lot. She's not a member of any of them, which is genuinely surprising in this day and age. But then I managed to sneak into her dorm room.

NORMAN: That wasn’t on the procedure list.

HUNTER: I go the extra mile. Anyway, I got inside. The thing was about as colorful as a jail cell. Not a Justin Timberlake poster in site. But I did find her laptop.

NORMAN: And?

HUNTER: She’s got a library full of e-mails to and from Jay. Several of them within the past few days. But here's where it gets weird. They're all in some bizarre coded language. Just looking at it, I couldn't decipher a lick of it.

NORMAN: Coded e-mails? That sure as heck raises a red flag.

HUNTER: I made a copy of her inbox, sent messages, and saved messages and gave it to Tzar. Hopefully, we should get something uncovered by early morning.

NORMAN: Okay, good. I want you to keep an eye out on this girl. If she makes a suspicious move, call me.

HUNTER: Where are you off to?

NORMAN: Surveillance duty on Jay. He's driving through the city as we speak.

**********
DAY 3 - 12:24 AM

Jay walks across a wet street towards a vacant construction site. Following carefully behind him is Norman in dark black clothing. Jay suddenly feels like he's being watched. He stops and turns around....but finds an empty street behind him. He cautiously turns back around and walks onto the construction site. Waiting for him are Fist and an associate, Travis King.

Norman enters the construction site from the back side and kneels behind a large, half finished wall. He's about thirty yards away from the trio. He pulls a pen-sized recording device out of his pocket and adjusts the ear piece in his right ear, just as Jay and the two terrorists begin talking.

FIST: Mr. Wells.

KING: Hold on a second.

King reaches down into his pocket and pulls out a square piece of gadgetry. He presses a button on the side of it.

Suddenly, the ear piece in Norman's ear begins to receive static. He can't hear a thing. He silently scrambles to try to fix it.

JAY: A woman visited me today. Told me she wanted to help me

FIST: Who was she?

JAY: A law student. She said my father was wrongly imprisoned and that she wanted to help me. Her words, "By any means necessary."

Fist shakes his head.

FIST: She's M Hype-5.

JAY: What?

KING: The intelligence service. A woman visits you out of the blue and sympathizes with your situation. That's there style. They're trying to get close to you. In your head.

JAY: So what the hell are we going to do? If they're on to me, this whole thing is screwed.

FIST: No, no. This is perfect, actually. Did she give you a phone number?

JAY: Yeah.

FIST: Good. That works in our favor. You were telling me about your friend, the girl? How dedicated is she to you?

JAY: She'll do anything for me.

FIST: Good. Let's test that.

Norman still can't get his ear piece to work. Suddenly, a cat near him knocks over a can of paint and sends it crashing to the ground, creating a loud BANG. Fist and the others turn to hear the sound. He and King draw a pair of .44 caliber pistols from out of their jackets. Fist motions for King to go check it out. King cautiously begins to move towards the direction of the noise, he's coming closer and closer to Norman's location, gun drawn and ready to fire.....

Too cute.
Not digging Jay, I might need to jump in his ****.

This is just awesome. I love the show "Spooks" and cmill, those two chapters were great. Heh, I like my character. :D And .44 calibers? Awesome.

Keep up the great work!

Good stuff all around.

I do have a suggestion for the future. M Hype-5 has to protect recently sworn in Mod "Chris Mills" *wink wink* from assassination.
