Machete the movie

OK folk, Sorry I have been so delayed in posting this, but my girlfriend and I attended the Machete screening and after party at Austin Studios on Thursday and I wanted to share my experiences. A LOT of the cast was on hand for the red carpet event, post screening Q & A and the massive after party. Everyone was so nice. Here are some photos.

You can tell from our smiles that it was a fantastic time. Rodriguez put on a specatcular event. The movie was a blast too. I have to give special props to Jeff Fahey who not only gave the best performance of the movie, but is hands down, the nicest guy you wil ever meet.

It was a great experience.

Forgive me if this has been answered upthread--my browser is acting up so I can't do a search--but did Luz
put the egg under the bed in her house to help heal Machete's wounds?
Was that some Mexican folklore remedy?

Yes, It's Mexican folklore that you say a prayer while waving the egg it absorbs the illness/damage. The largely Hispanic crowd in Austin went nuts for that scene. During the q&a Rodriguez asked who has had that done, and having a Latino step parent as a child, I was the only gringo to have his hand up. LOL

I wish I was at that screening , my showing was mostly people who I don't think knew what they were getting into . Luckily the campaign ad for the Senator drove the nail in that this was a farce. Me and three other guys were laughing our asses off and one guy was ballsy enough to yell some things . The minute I went in to sat down I saw some people with pre-teens and knew it was gonna be kind of a bust.
Also so jealous you go to be that close to Michelle Rodriguez

ah, machete, I never thought this movie would actually get made. Tarantino and Rodriguez both talked about and hinted at Inglourious Basterds and Machete for years respectively, but they both seemed like neither project would ever get made, now both of them have.

I dug this movie. It was goofy gorey fun. It was about as good as it was ever going to be, being based off of a fake trailer. Trejo was definitely cool in it as was Deniro and Michelle Rodriguez, but I absolutely cannot stand Jessica Alba she always either looked like she was feigning interest in what was going on or standing around looking like she smelt a fart. (strange way of putting it, but its true) Lindsy Lohan was completly unneeded and kind of useless. The movie was as subtle as a machete to the face when it came to its stance on immigration, but that was kind of the point.

I like how Rodriguez snuck his doctor into another movie lol.

One thing I didn't like was that sometimes the movie tried too hard to include all the clips from the original fake trailer. Particularly unsatisfying was the motor cycle jump. If you mount a machine gun on a motor cycle there should definitely be more than like 1 second of use for it.

Overall I give this film a 7 out of 10

Just saw it and it a fun cornball gory type of action film, I wasn't bored at all and also noticed at how it wasn't Lindsay Lohan naked at all during the pool scene pretty clever of having her hair covering her nipples in other shots.

And what an amazing if short scene of Jessica Alba in the shower, although why the hell would she be having a laptop in the shower anyway?

Do we get to see Jessica Alba, Lindsey Lohan and Michelle Rodriguez naked in this movie?? :awesome:

...and the funny thing was, you could tell she was a little wasted even before the after party. lol. She kept grabbing the mic from Trejo and adding in something she thought was funny. My girlfriend and I looked at each other a couple of times and said 'I think Michelle has been partying already." She was really nice though. We were front row at the screenng and she passed us to go up on stage and said, "Uh-oh, you guys are in for it. I hope you haven't eaten before seeing this". I think she was referring to the gore.
I gotta tell you, I never thought much of her before, but in person...HOT! She is surprisingly petite.

Sorry to hear your crowd wasn'tthe best. That does make a difference for a movie like this.

Michelle Rodriquez and jessica alba were so hawt...

when Lindsey Lohan appeared in the movie my audience started booing

That's good to hear, she does seems like she would be more down to earth in person, that had to be fun to witness.
I just should of went to a later showing , I still enjoyed it though.

Not Michelle Rodriguez but you get a full nude side shot of Alba and with Lindsay you see her naked too. In one scene her hair is covering her boobs, but not well so you do get to see them.

Did anyone else realize one of the bodyguards was the director of Predators? (the one that machete almost stabs with the grass cutters)

is it racist that after seeing the movie i had a craving for taco bell?

Hey didnt' you post pictures in the Predators thread of you with the stars at that movies screening??

Yup. I live 2.5hrs outside Austin, and had such a good time at Predators, I made it a point to come back when Machete rolled around. It's been a fun summer.

A note about that. I met Jeff Fahey at Predators and sent that picture to a friend of mine that just got out of the hospital from battling lung cancer. My friend is a huge LOST fan so he enjoyed that picture. We ran accross Fahey at the Machete after party and told him that story and thanked him. He immediately said, "We should get him another picture." He then asked me to wait while he went to get his LOST co-star Ken Leung who plays Miles. Ken was at the party too. I saw him walk over to Ken and pull him away from a conversation, they both came back over and put me in the middle while we took a picture. It's one of the pics you see in my post. I sent that to my friend and he was very happy.
I want to throw out there that Jeff Fahey gave probably the strongest performance in Machete, and he is also a super nice guy in person.

Well I saw a matinee of this today. It may be the unfortunate fact that our audience was a matinee one, but they were very, very quiet which ruined some of the potential appeal I'm sure. When I saw Grindhouse we were laughing with a night showing all the way out. This is the kind of movie that needs more audience participation and reactions. Oh well.

As a whole, I thought it was just "Okay." I was expecting a fun schlocky B-movie that was hilarious. I just thought the hilarity wasn't as strong as it was in Grindhouse or From Dusk Til Dawn (I think the best "B-movie" that Rodreguiez has made). It needed to be less Desperado and more Planet Terror.

With that said, I thought the cast for the most part was strong for this, save for Lindsay Lohan who couldn't even play herself convincingly in this (though the nun habbit was hilarious, I will admit). But Danny Trejo is a convincing leading man badass. Too bad he is too grim looking to likely be allowed by Hollywood to ever star in anything else. Alba and the other Rodreguiez were good as his love interests and the villains were mostly brilliantly cast.

Jeff Fahey, Robert DeNiro and Don Johnson steal the show with their mugging. Seeing DeNiro ham it up as a super racist, bigoted Republican senator was a laugh (though the immigration politics was laid on very, very thick in this movie) and his introduction with Johnson was darkly humorous portrayal of the "minute men."

However, I feel there were long streches between the laughs. The best scenes I thought were when Cheech's church was invaded to the sounds of Josh Groban and the beginning when Machete and his bullet riddled partner take on the Mexican drug lord.

Overall a fun film, but not nearly as epic or hilarious as the fake trailer and not one of the director's better films (Sin City, From Dusk Til Dawn, and Desperado are still tops).

I'll watch Machete Kills and Kills Again for sure, though.

Id love to go to something like that, sounds fun, your really lucky...

The movie is fun though the third act is very disjointed, as if Robert was just rushing through the final 'battle' scene.

Alba has said in numerous interviews that she wasn't actually nude, and that she had on underwear and that it was a post-production effect. :csad:
