Mad Max

I have a confession....Iv never seen ANY of the Mad Max films. I mean iv seen bits and pieces, but none of em all the way through. How well does this game capture the feel of the films. Im about an hour in and so far i really dig it.

Im 22 and didn't grow up watching the films, but the new one is one of the best action movies I've ever seen if not just one of the best movies I've ever seen.

Can anyone answer if they got actual Aussies to voice parts in this game? I don't mean putting on an accent, I mean the genuine article. I still wake up in a cold sweat from having nightmares over Tom Hardy's awful attempt.

Id say no bc I read a comment on another board from an Aussie complaining about the voice acting bc the Australian accent was bad

Confession. Up until a few months ago, i didnt even realize there were 4 of them. I only heard about the first one earlier this year and was shocked to see an Anthology blu-ray set that has all 4 films

The voice of Max is done by Bren Foster who is Australian.

Yeah he's Aussie. I would have loved it if they got Mel's brother to do the voice work like in that trailer from way back when.

Great to hear it, because seriously, Meryl Streep is the only Aussie to ever do the accent right.

Really loving the game so far. I know I'm in the minority, but I didn't like Shadows of Mordor. This seems like Mordor, but better. Really helps that I like desert environments. The combat seems to be like the Arkham games, but more realistic (in the sense that you don't jump 20 feet to throw a punch).

I also like the concept. Basically waging a one-man war on post-apocalyptic fiefdoms.

So I've been watching the youtube plays, and it seems that Max is basically the only character who actually speaks in an Aussie accent. I'm feeling miffed.

Eh? They've all got accent.. And if they're not Assuie they're close enough. I can't tell much of a difference between them and Nee Zeldand anyway. :p

Yeah, I don't know where you're from, but most of them seem to be attempting a terrible cockney accent, or just a guttural drawl.

the guy that's the voice for Max is an Aussie. I can't say mush for all the other voice actors.

Kiwis tend to say the 'i' sound more like a 'u', and their 'e' sounds more like an 'i'. Other than they sound relatively similar to us. As for Max's accent, I believe in this game he was originally voiced by an American and there was a bit of an outcry over it.

Oh yeah I totally wouldn't want him voiced by an American, no way.

Keep in mind the "Australian accent" isn't just one accent. Much like the U.K, The U.S, Canada and even New Zealand, Australia hosts many variants on their accent(s).

Loving the game but I feel the driving controls are floaty. Maybe that will change as I progress with the magnum opus.

From what I recall from dev videos, how you customize the Opus will affect handling. I haven't gotten the game yet (playing Metal Gear now), so don't quote me on that.

I agree, though as I've played I've gotten more used to them and you can definitely upgrade the handling.

Been playing this game on XB1. It runs very very choppy when driving fast. Anyone else have this problem?

I feel the same, but we are driving a damn junker, not a Ferrari so I felt it fit what the dev team was trying to convey. These cars(at the start any way) shouldn't handle like a finely tuned sport car.

You know, Rockstar would've made a seriously great Mad max game. Especially if it was Red Dead style. This game is good and fun though.

Here is my thoughts on the game so far.
I have the PS4 version.

The game is EPIC! Granted I will not lie, I'm 30 years old and a huge fan of Mad Max in General, Seen and own all the films, grew up wanting an Interceptor etc.
The fighting style is very similar to the Batman Arkham games, no not martial arts, but the controls itself. The way you attack, counter and move out of the way, combos, etc. The open world is amazing. Pretty huge map, the free roam the way it works has a very Red Dead Redemption feel to it, the radar, the being able to drive or walk wherever, you can unlock "quick travel" by exploring certain location, clearing that location and viewing from a eagle eye view in a hot air balloon.
The story is fun so far, the characters, companions and enemies you meet along the way are great. When I'm playing this game I really feel like I'm Max set out in this wasteland trying to survive. The relying on having to salvage and scavenge for water and food for health and gasoline for travel is a perfect realistic touch to this game and its great.

Oh and I can confirm that as you progress with the car's upgrades the car does indeed get easier and better to drive.

I guess I'll list some of my personal pros and cons of the game.

Pros:
-Great Story, great characters, Feels like a whole new Mad Max movie and you are playing it all out.
-Surviving the wastelands, having to find and collect water with a canteen for health is a great idea. Eating dog food, maggots, whatever you can find.
-Having to find gasoline for your car, great touch, even greater touch is being allowed to carry an extra spare gas can in the "open" trunk of your car to use for later or in emergencies is a awesome minor detail that just helps add to the feel of the game.
-The controls and gameplay is great, I am very very pleased with this.
-the landscape is beautiful in its own post apocalyptic way if that makes any sense. So many different areas to explore.
-Road Warrior, vehicular combat is AWESOME! Ram them, shoot them, grapple them your harpoon cannon, out run them, or try to evade and hide from them. Just like how it is in the films. Your choice, figure out how you want to handle it.
-The game allows you in a indirect way to choose your way to handle given situations.

Cons:
-Wish the graphics were better, after playing Batman Arkham Knight, It leaves a lot to be desired. Not that Mad Max has bad graphics, but after such a beautiful game as Arkham Knight it makes you wish all PS4 games were this gorgeous.
-Sometimes I found myself lost on what to do next with missions or should I say side missions. Like trying to complete some of Jeet's missions. I felt some of these could have been a bit more clear. I found myself scratching my head a couple times.

That's currently all of my cons at the moment. Clearly my Pro's outweigh the cons by a huge margin.

I'd currently give the game a solid 8.5/10 possibly a 9/10 rating
