Sony Spin-Off Madame Web spin-off in the works

Not so. I've seen a fair bit of schadenfreude — "pleasure derived from an other's misfortune." That's a kind of discussion.

I feel bad for Dakota Johnson and SJ Clarkson. They are going to suffer the brunt of this and frankly I don't think they deserve it. Dakota Johnson was likely manipulated and fed a bill of goods to sign on for this. Clarkson probably thought she was getting her big break and was more than likely a hired gun.

Why do none of them have real masks? Imagine Spider-Man without the mask...

Comic book movies in general hate costumes and masks. Actors don't want their faces covered. Executives don't want the actors faces covered either.

Lol Sony, this is embarassing!

One down! Now we wait til Kraven in August!

What I hate the most about this is we can't and won't see Spider-Man taking on Kraven in a Spider-Man movie.

I don't get making movies about the villains. THEY ARE VILLAINS! I don't want a Chameleon or Rhino movie. Spider-Man should be fighting them!

One reviewer called it the "Cats" of comic book movies.
I read that...made me laugh. The sad thing is, like Catwoman and other catastrophic failures before it, this movie will have those two of three who swear it is the best thing ever. I mean, there are still those in IG who comment that the Marvels is "The best movie they have ever seen", which indicates that they have never seen another film ever.

Totally but if its good enough for Spider-Man and Ironman, its good enough for every marvel hero.

Imagine if we got a visor-less Cyclops lol.

I can't tell I should feel bad for Dakota for not realizing this wasn't an MCU film. :o

Are you really comparing The Marvels to Catwoman and this?

Keep your commentary to the qualities or lack thereof of the movies themselves and not the reference points or quality of other fans' opinions or else you will be going on vacation for flaming.

I feel bad for her because while we are all heavily in the comic book movie bubble, I take it from the perspective that there are probably plenty of people and actors who are not and don't understand the nuances of MCU vs. Sony Spider-Man/Marvel. Plus, Dakota Johnson is probably under pressure from her agents and managers who are telling her to do or sign on for certain things. Remember, her agents and managers want to get paid handsomely as well. And sometimes I doubt talent reps can really see the forest for the trees or understand those nuances either.

Shouldn't they be set for life after those Fifty Shades films??

I realize it's not comic book movie money, but still.

I guess it depends on what kind of deal she got for those films. I assume Johnson got paid on one of those sliding upward payscales like Gal Gadot on BvS since those films were really her big break and she hadn't done a lot of major work before that.

Cosmopolitian said she got $250,000 for the first one and seven figures for the sequels. Seven figures is probably good, but it's not Julia Roberts in her heyday or Jennifer Lawrence-type money.

Is anyone really shocked? Spoiler alert for yall, Kraven is also going to be this bad. I know, I know. Yall think I am crazy right now. But it is.

Not at all. The idea and premise were flawed from the outset. But the movie didn't help matters.

I maintain, Dakota Johnson is a good talent and I think the other women are good even if they aren't given much to do. Johnson's humor and deadpan delivery were the only bright spots in the film.

I think for starters, Ezekiel as the villain is absolutely ridiculous and makes no sense. The natural character to make a villain in this type of story is MORLUN.

Also, the girls are just passive reactionary characters. They don't ever get to really do anything. Even Cassandra barely even does anything here.

Cassandra's one super-power is that she basically has a super amped up spider sense.

Also this ringer dinger:

"When you accept the responsibility, great powers will come."

UGH! Freaking Ugh!

They literally reversed "With great power comes great responsibility" and thought it was super clever, deep, and epic.

With greatness, comes the power of responsibility.
Coming empowers greatness in a responsible way.
With responsive power coming is great.

I don't know, the director of Kraven the Hunter is actually quite good. I've liked/loved every film he made so far. So I have a little bit of hope on that one (even though I absolutely hate these Sony's spinoffs being made in the first place).

You should abandon that hope ASAP.

JC Chandor is such a legitimate, good director that him being reduced to directing Kraven is so sad.

Although Kraven looks bad in a pretty fun way. Very 2000s bargain bin action DVD schlock. If we're talking upcoming CBMs (almost all of which look awful in their own ways) I'd much, much rather watch that kind of schlock than something like Deadpool & Wolverine.

On the Ezekiel vs Morlun front, I don't think that part matters much. We are already doing a not old and not chair bound Madame Web movie. So Ezekiel is more than fine to use. It isnt like Ezekiel is a really well known character. Nor really is Morlun. Sure, comic fans know him, but he isnt a character your average movie goer knows anything about. But Ezekiel, Morlun, Santa Clause, whoever....Just make them interesting. Which the script by all accounts fails to do.

I dont at all see how Kraven looks any better than Morbius or Madame Web. I really don't. Deadpool & Wolverine I am much more interested in. Kraven isn't going to be fun B-movie shlock. It's just going to be another awful entry in the Spiderverse pantheon of garbage that isn't lucky enough to have Tom Hardy to make the garbage somehow work. Like, I have seen that Kraven trailer. And I just don't see this movie some of yall are trying to picture. This looks like an easy 15% on RT type of movie
