Made-Up Words that Annoy the Crap Out of You

Also... "ginormous." And this one is in the dictionary now! This is a word derived from "giant" and "enormous." Two words that essentially mean the same thing. So why combine them? Can you imagine if we did this with everything? "Damn, looks like my motorengine is acting up... better go take my cartomobile down to the garagepairshop and have a mechnician take lookstare at it."
this one really gets on my nerves, too... i have to mute the TV whenever the Vonage commercial comes on because i just can't stand it!

i actually thought "ginormous" was funny the first time or two i heard it, and i may have even used it once or twice, but now, i can't stand it...

also........ i can't stand it!

Glad to see I'm not alone in this. Ginormous is such a stupid f**king word that whenever I hear it, it makes me want to slam my head into a desk repeatedly in hopes that it will send me back in time so that I can go back to college and major in something that people actually give a sh** about (i.e. not English).

I avoided this thread for a few days just because I was so annoyed by people defending bullsh** words like "ginormous" because "all words are made up." Well yes, folks, you certainly got me there. I suppose we should just abandon the English language (and all other languages) altogether because no words are real and just make random sounds at each other that we feel evoke the correct emotion. And if that doesn't work, just throw rocks to make your point.

Va-jay-jay or however you spell it.

I'd like to strangle the person that came up with that word and the people that use it.

Anyone who uses the word chillax is an ahole.

also...
Preggers
Bestie
Epic

When I was in college, there was this incredibly annoying fad where girls would abbreviate words.

"Ridic" (ridiculous) was a popular one in particular (I'm sorry. In partic.)

It drove me insane .

Also, I hate the word "va-jay-jay."

That's a real world. It's used all too much recently though.

I completely ignored the "made-up" portion of the thread name on that one haha....it's just extremely annoying....and people use it cause they think it somehow makes them sound cool.

Chillax is definitely at the top of my list though

I'm sad you feel that way. Considering that you claim to be an English major, you should be well aware of how language works and evolves over time, but hey, if you want to go around only using real English words, here's a list of a few that you can't use. There are many, many, many more.

Abandon.
Abomination.
Absent.
Admiral.
Agree.
Alcohol.
Alligator.
Arsenal.
Assassin.
Attitude.
Balloon.
Banjo.
Benefit.
Block.
Blonde.
Bullet.
Cabin.
Cable.
Candy.
Carpentry.
Coffee.
Cola.
Combustion.
Communicate.
Democracy.
Dessert.
Destroy.
Dig.
Eagle.
Ejaculation.
Engine.
Equation.
Famous.
Female.
Ferret.
Gauze.
Gay.
Gem.
Ghoul.
Globe.
Guitar.
Habit.
Ignore.
Infection.
Jar.
Jazz.
Jive.
Ketchup.
Lemon.
Magazine.
Orange.
Pistol.
Robot.
Sauna.
Silk.
Sofa.
Sugar.
Trek.
Tuna.
Wicker.
Zero.
Zombie.

A lot of those were off the top of my head, though "gay" being a French-derived word makes me giggle with surprise.

Manly giggles, of course.

Seconded. Equally as annoying as 'take a chill pill', especially when followed by 'dude'...

Did you just make that one up?

I've never ever heard that one before....but if it picks up around here now, im gonna blame you! :oldrazz:

:awesome: No I didn't make it up.

It's used mostly when people are being sarcastic, or attempting to sound interested when they aren't (hence it inherently being annoying).

Example:

Me - 'OMG, Henry Cavill has been cast as Superman.

Work Colleague - 'Fandabidosy *eye roll* So, anyway...'

And god I hope it doesn't catch on :csad:

I don't see it catching on....what general area are you from? maybe it's popular over there or is it used a lot on the internet?

I don't know... but it's twitching on the ground. Can someone do the humane thing and put it out of it's misery?

(By the by, awesome Sam Avy!)

I'm afraid PETA will have our heads for that.:csad:

BTW, Thank you!

Snookie want smush smush...

Also, I think its funny that I say about 90% of the words in here. Not because I want to, but becasue its funny. I love when one of my friends gets heated over a video game and I get to yell at him, "Chillax Bromo". Its so stupid its funny.

I can think of a few off of the top of my head:

-Using "like" in the wrong way (i.e.-- "Like, totally!!!"). I'll admit, I have caught myself using this word on occasion, though it wasn't intentional.

-All rap slang ("Shorty"? Seriously, who the **** came up with that?).

-I seriously want to destroy the next person that uses the phrase, "I think I've caught the Bieber Fever." :cmad:
