Making Spider-Woman work in the MCU

Interesting. Well even if it's not great I'll probably read it, as I now realize I've never read any origin story for her. I mean, I know her origin just from years of geekdom, but I've never actually read it, lol.

It's Bendis/Maleev the team from the Daredevil run dont listen to that poster irs a great run.

I don't think that the origin or personality are a problem. HYDRA's prominence in the current MCU even makes it easier.

I think it's more from a marketing perspective because just like with the Supergirl movie, you're going to have these dogged accusations about how they're scraping the bottom of the barrel or that she's just a cheap attempt to cash-in on the popularity of Spider-Man even though obviously these would be too different studios in theory.

With SHIELD gone it might be tricky to include SWORD, but if you treat them as separate organizations it could be easy to include Jessica Drew as a secret agent investigating aliens in either Captain Marvel (with whom she s close friends) or Inhumans.

I liked it! :yay: I just personally had some issues that prevented myself from feeling fully satisfied with it.

SWORD was always pretty autonomous anyways.

I think they would separate, just because I feel they would've at least been mentioned on AoS or in the films by now. I really hope they'd introduce sword and Jessica in Captain Marvel

Not necessarily. I mean, I always envisioned it as a response to the invasion in Avengers anyway, but the naming scheme lining up with SHIELD the way it does wouldn't rationally happen given the suspicion already on SHIELD

Spider-Woman would work best as a Netflix series like DD and Jessica Jones. It would allow her character to develop, but would also allow her to explore the more supernatural side of the MCU. It could be similar to Joss Whedon's Angel crossed with JJ Abrams's Alias (or Marvel's Agents of SHIELD).

Some weeks it would be supernatural stories, other weeks it would be spy capers, and other weeks it would be private detective crime solving. She has a pretty decent rogues gallery too, with the likes of Morgan Le Fay, Nekra, Gypsy Moth, Brothers Grimm, Hangman, the Needle, Viper, Hydra etc.

Dr Strange could show up, as could Morbius, Werewolf by Night, Ghost Rider and the Shroud. It could have the Nightshift guest starring, since half of them are Spider-Woman characters.

Definitely! She's a big character, so I'd like to see her cross into the movies too! She's an avenger. If Whedon ever wants to get back into tv, he could make magic happen with her!

She'd be great to have in the movies. And if Marvel got Spider-Man back, then they won't have a problem featuring both Spider-Man and Spider-Woman and having people think one is a rip off of the other, because they'd know how to make them different enough and would know in the first place that they are completely different anyway.

Angel always reminded me of early Spider-Woman stories, and actually late Spider-Woman stories too. It was set in LA as well, and Angel perfectly captured the tone.

Also, some of Spider-Woman's later stories featured the Yakuza. That could easily open the way for the Hand and have a crossover with Iron Fist, Daredevil and Elektra.

Spider-Woman would be the ideal meeting point for the supernatural, the spy world and the street hero/vigilante world of Marvel to converge. And since she's an Avenger too, it would be the perfect connection as well.

Los Angeles would be a good setting for Jessica's adventures.

Spider-Woman's solo book (which lasted a pretty long time) had a more supernatural bent to it. And it might be more interesting to explore her character in that setting since the MCU already has more "espionage" franchises, like the Cap movies and AOS. In fact I've always found certain writers, most notably Bendis's, attempts to shoehorn Jessica into a "spy" role to be rather forced. That's Black Widow's schtick, give Jessica her own thing.

Oh and if the audience is so clueless (which I don't think that they are btw) that they think that, just because a character has "Spider" in their codename, that they're AUTOMATICALLY connected to/ a ripoff of Spider-Man, then that's THEIR problem. A freaking two minute google search would tell you that that's not the case.

G'day,

I once thought it would be a simple matter to have Spider-Woman introduced in the MCU. In the comics she was involved with Hydra in her early career so could pop up in AOS. But thats not going to happen. If she does come around I expect it will be in a movie.

Marvel Studios have only a limited number of top female characters, Black Widow, Captain Marvel, She-Hulk and Spider-Woman. Those characters are reserved for their big money earners- movies. Same reason Iron Man appears in a movie but Deathlok on TV. However I admit is debatable Jessica Drew is a A or B list character, but she is certainly not Quake.

After the characters who have already been released and the ones who are to come in Phase 3, Spider-Woman will be on the shortlist of most important characters they haven't done yet. So I'm sure she will be coming down the pike at some point.

I'm convinced that the new costume in the comics is Marvels first step towards us seeing a movie.

Ugh. It looks terrible. The red and yellow is classic and one of the best superheroine costumes. This is looking 90s generic or similar to that Wonder Woman update with the black disco pants. I don't like her gloves either.

And I completely disagree with this statement:

Lowe likens Spider-Woman's fashion evolution to Daredevil, who started out in a garish yellow-and-brown number before finding his signature red super-suit.

"I don't think we've landed on the iconic Spider-Woman yet," he says, "and this is our entry into that."

The red and yellow IS iconic.

It doesn't look like generic 90s. There is no trench coat, flight jacket, or excessive pouches. It reminds me of Kate Bishop or Batgirl. I like it.

I love it. It definitely has a movie-ish vibe to it that I think would work. Also from a contextual standpoint it's far more believable as something a heroine who primarily works in espionage or detective work could conceivably wear.

I'm in love with the new costume. Fits the character and makes her respectable.

I like it too. It's something I'd expect her to look in the MCU:

I'm infuriated by the new outfit, but I guess if the rationale is to avoid more Internet super-controversy over her rear end, I guess this was the "best" way to go about it.

I still want Alexandra Daddario to play Jessica, but this outfit would do absolutely nothing to compliment her figure.

Or simply not hire Manara to do the cover at all.
