Making Spider-Woman work in the MCU

Can totally see her showing up in AoS now with that look. Not too shabby. Reminds me of Mockingbird.

Mockingbird's AOS uniform is dull though and rather generic. In live action, it barely looks any different from Agent May's. You can't even really tell there are two shades there as it can sometimes look all black. I prefer Spider-Woman's costume not to look like Mockingbird's.

I think the iconic red and yellow outfit stands out much more and makes her very distinctive. We don't have any female characters in comic movies who are in a striking red and yellow. Everyone's in a variation of black or dark blue.

Mockingbird's outfit looks fine and even the new one still has red and yellow. No problem there.

I recommend Jessica Brown Findlay for Spider-Woman

Go get her Marvel!

Why? She has nothing to do with Spider-Man.

Have you been reading comics recently? Marvel has been unifying all its "Spider-characters" and making them into a franchise and that includes Spider-Woman. She may not have had anything to do with him in the past, but they are actively working on establashing strong ties between the characters. She is integrated into the Spider-Man family. Her current solo launched out of Spider-Verse and they are interacting outside of the Avengers books more than ever

I'm sure what Ramsus meant was that their beginnings and general stories are distinctly separate. To the point that Drew wasn't included in the licensing given to Sony for their movie franchise.
Regardless of the recent comics developments, that wouldn't have changed character licensing, anymore than Avengers vs X-Men would have given FOX access to use IronMan or Cap... However Drew's superhero name might have caused some legal issues in the past.

I think that very well could have been a possibility. Jessica may not have had strong ties to Spidey till recently, but there have been other Spider-Women in the books that have and without knowing the full details, I bet theres a strong chance that Sony had the rights to the name as part of holding the Spider-Man license. Prior to this, I think Jessica could have been in the MCU under a different codename, (maybe Arachne) but now its likely moot

It also could be as simple as Marvel not wanting to market a character with a name tied to their competitor. Even if the fans are aware that they have nothing to do with Marvel it might have been a bad idea to try and launch Spider-Woman in the face of the increasingly crappy Spider-Man movies.

Doubt it. How many different versions of Sherlock Holmes or Hercules have we gotten? Studios don't let their competitors stop them.

The same argument would also apply to characters like Wonder Man or Captain Marvel, and we know the later is being made.

Correct. Spider-Woman was created in the first place because Marvel found out that she wasn't covered under the name Spider-Man and another comic book company could create a Spider-Woman character.

One other thing leads me to believe Sony didn't have her. Sony really wanted to do a female-led Spider-Man film to the point that leaks show that they were looking at making an Aunt May film.

If they had the rights to Spider-Woman, she would have been the unquestioned best female character they had to handle a solo film. That she wasn't even discussed indicates that they either couldn't use her or that they were the biggest morons in Hollywood.

Jessica wasnt even the Spider-Woman in the MU when Sony got the Spider-Man rights. Mattie was and she most defintely was a SM character, having gotten her debut in Amazing Spider-Man and serving as a supporting character for him. I really do think they hold the rights to Spider-Woman as it's a mantle and one that was most tied to Spider-Man when these deals were originally made
