Making your own pizzas

That'll make it all the better, nothing like a post pizza coma

My GF makes pizza every once in a while. I do know it tastes better given that we use good quality ingredients.

Of course, when I was by myself I would buy the pizza in some local italian restautrants where they use an old style earth stove.

I've been meaning to eat healthier lately, so I think I'll give this a try. Maybe make a banana pizza, like that one episode of Doug.

The most "exotic" Pizza I've ever ordered was sausage, green peppers, and onions. The most "exotic" that I've ever made though, was bacon and eggs. It was surprisingly good, especially for breakfast the next day. Good things happen when the egg white mixes with the melting cheese. :D

I've never done it by making my own dough. Any time I've ever tried to make dough for anything, I work it too much or not enough. I'm not much of a baker in that respect. However, I have used locally made dough, and it's always come out great. I love a good white pizza, as well as pesto with shrimp or chicken. One of these days I'll have to try using my great grandmother's red sauce recipe. One other thing I'd like to try is using something closer to a bruschetta rather than a ragu-based pizza. I think that's what a true pizza should be.

That does not sound too good. :csad: I honestly don't think eggs and bacon should go on a pizza. lol.

I wouldn't mind making a pizza with spinach and artichoke, like a spinach and artichoke dip kind of thing.

I have an electric oven and the damn thing doesn't get hot enough for it to cook right. Has anyone made a good pizza crust in an electric oven? I'm not talking about deep dish, or thick crusts, I'm talking about napoletana style.

It seems the best pizza's come froma Gas oven, wood-burning, and stone oven.

I may try and do this tonight, as we all got gift cards at work today for the local supermarket, and I got some free time. I see those damn Boboli pizza shell/crust things all the time, I may try it out. Anybody that's done it, do they usually come out edible, or is it just crappy?

it comes out nicely

mmm homemade dough. You can really punch up the flavor of the homemade by adding stuff like oregeno, those popcorn flavoring shaker flavored powders, minced garlic, sundried tomatoes, even working bacon grease into the dough (if your not on a diet lol) really makes the dough something special. Try it out instead of those weird shells. Plus its fun to make pizzas in weird shapes when you make your own dough hehe

I cheat with this. I don't make my own dough. I just take some Italian bread and cut it in half.

If you want some really good sauce, spend about a day making a container of meatballs. Crush up/ground up tomatoes and different seasonings and such. While the meat balls are cooking, the meat will add flavor to the sauce.

Put a thin layer of mozzarella cheese on the top of the Italian bread, coat that with a layer of your home made meat sauce, sprinkle another layer of cheese and either bake or toaster oven. It works wonderfully and tastes epic.

If you want to make your crust/bread/etc. That's a whole other ball game.

I use Martha White dough, Ragu sauce, parmesan, mozzarella with a little cheddar mixed in, and turkey pepperoni...yummy.

Pasta is just flour and eggs and tastes good with tomato sauce and cheese, so the only thing that makes egg on Pizza particularly different is the method of delivering it into your mouth. Also, bacon usually tastes really good on pizza even on its own.

I see what your saying, but I keep imagining scrambled eggs and bacon on a pizza dough. I'm assuming there is not any tomato sauce on this? I'd hope not. lol.

a light cream sauce would probally go pretty well with it, or some kind of creamy cheese sauce as the base.

You characters are getting a bit too Food Network-y for me, but I get the gist of it. Homemade ingredients good, store bought bad.

I made a pizza once. I didn't like it. It's pretty much the only thing I've ever cooked that I didn't like.

The base was soggy and the toppings were burnt. The pepperoni tasted like BBQ feet and the tomato base was scorched into non-existence.
