Man of Steel 2: Lex Luthor is Donald Trump.

Wait, wait, hear me out.

Luthor, unlike his real life proxy, can actually be quite brilliant and cunning. He uses the mess made by Superman and Zod's fight as an excuse to invest a BILLION in aid along with pushing government legislation through his lobbying groups to rebuild Metropolis. The people love him.

He also uses his philanthropy as an excuse to meet and try to seduce Superman. When that doesn't work, he becomes a representative of the "angry, rich old white man" population in this country. If Superman is the ultimate immigrant fantasy, then he needs to meet the ultimate nativist. One who pours money into a PR campaign to turn the public against Superman as being "Other" and a threat to Metropolis. It would not be entirely invalid considering Superman wrecked half the city himself.

He then uses this as a cover for his real Machiavellian scheme to create a being as powerful as Superman who would obey him. Whether that character should be Bizzaro or Metallo I am unsure. Personally, I preferred Metallo growing up. But narratively Bizzaro would work.

Save Darkseid for a Justice League film. And Doomsday in many ways would just mirror Bane in TDKR (at least with the breaking/"killing" of the hero) and we are too early along for that right now.

Your ideas for Lex are solid. But how would you go about making the fight between Superman and Bizarro distinct from and "bigger" than the climactic showdown of MOS?

I agree with the idea of putting off Brainac. If you used him in the 2nd one , you'd be rehashing what happened in MOS. I would prefer Lex be the puppet master with Superman facing off against government created foes like Metallo.

On the other hand, I think if you were to have Brainac at this point, I would think that it would have to literally be an A.I. type computer program ala Skynet in the Terminator series created by Lex or the Government.

You could always have the technology based off of all the gear left behind by Zod's army, but I think having Brainac arrive to earth ala STAS and bringing in more Krypton stuff would at this point just be basically redoing what was done in MOS.

I think it would have to play as Superman facing his doppelganger. Cavill playing both roles would be the draw. However, I agree, similar to another alien invasion from Braniac, Superman fighting another Kryptonian (even himself) would feel a bit redundant.

I like the idea of Metallo for that reason. Superman has never fought such a visually stylish villain in a movie before and it could have shades (note: shades) of Terminator in his appearance, as well as introduce kryptonite. It also allows Lex to be more menacing while keeping his hands clean.

As for Doomsday, who others recommend, again his threat level would remind me quite a bit of Bane in TDKR. He will come to "break" the hero. Very '90s comic books, if you know what I mean. It is a character that is hard to do something else with.

Imagine the modern crazy visuals for Kryptonite they could come up with for MOS2.
It would be a cool to see the cover of Superman #233 (vol1) come to life on screen.

I think saving Brainiac for 3 would be following a pattern like The Dark Knight trilogy. Open Kryptonian, introduce a new villain with a personal struggle, and then close the trilogy with Brainiac Kryptonian theme to round out the trilogy. Same as League of Shadows, Joker/TwoFace, and Bane/Talia/League of Shadows.

I think Metallo and Lex Luthor could work for MoS2 villains. They could have Metallo use some salvoged Krypton tech (and maybe Lex Luthor for some combat armour). Would be nice if they also introduced some actual kryptonite, but that's not entirely necessary imo.

Though maybe Lex could be a more 'behind the scenes' guy. I'd love to see him capitalise on Metropolis destruction and help rebuild the city as a springboard for a President Luther campaign, which I think would make for a better lead in to JLA than another alien invasion (considering MoS opened with one and Marvel's Avengers had one also).

Recently watched an interview with Goyer when asked about villains in sequels. He seemed to have this different twinkle in his eye and a different body posture when it came to Parasite. He seemed to really dig him as a villain and I could see him having fun with the "draining Superman's energy" levels to ground Superman. Again, this direction is all about being grounded so I can see villains such as Luthor (of course) Metallo and Parasite make their rounds.

Also, Goyer seemed to use some dialogue and creative ideas come straight from JMS's "EARTH ONE" (Jonathan Kent/young Clark scene in barn; Zod's message to Earth, etc.) and Superman: Earth One, Volume 2 featured the Parasite so I have a feeling Goyer likes the Parasite to pop up in this universe.

Agreed. Metallo doesn't really resemble Iron Man. Plus if he turned up in any MoS film he would receive his own update like they did with Superman's suit.

Parasite could be interesting. I'd imagine he'd see a significant adaptation if he were to wind up in a MoS film.

Yeah, Metallo always seemed more like Terminator than Iron Man. The similarity to IM3 might be if they went the whole Metallo is a creation of the government route , which might seem like an Extrimis knock off. Even if it does, that would be the logical route to go imo. I personally wouldn't mind seeing Metallo and Parasite with Lex as the puppet master.

I am totally down with Metallo and Parasite. MOS featured a Kal who had to embrace his powers to take down the enemy. But what if those powers were drained or weakened. Make it so!
