I think you are WAY over estimating Superman Returns.

In what way? The character itself supports those numbers I was projecting. He's had a very successful run on TV the last 5 years and has a popular animated series still running. All indications are that this film has something for everyone and should do very well.

It doesn't hurt that the \S/ shield is the second most known symbol in the WORLD behind the cross either. You're underestimating the most popular comic book hero coming back to the big screen after an almost 20 year absence.

I remember watching POTC in the cinema with a few friends, and we all really did not like it all, all of them found it to be childish and would not pay to see the sequal, this coming from people in their 20s.

Well, POTC2 has chances to win this competition with $330-360m, but I wouldn't underestimate SR, who also can beat POTC2 with $320-340m (if POTC2 makes less than 1st movie).

But what if the movie sucks?

Pirates. People loved the first movie and will doubtless flock in droves to see Dead Mans Chest. Superman will be big, but I dont think it has the same kind of wideness of appeal that Pirates has. Superman has a LARGE built in comic fan audience, Pirates has the entire USA.

SR will probably have big income the first 2 weeks, then slowly decline. POTC2 will be more consistent. I think POTC2 will win b/c it looks like the better movie. SR just screams disappointment.

 If SR is disappointment, then why critics liked it?

At Rotten Tomatoes, it has only gotten 78% and not all of the reviews are out. I never said it was going to be a bad movie, just a disappointment. It can still be a good movie, but not as great as some have anticipated. I think Pirates will be the better movie and ultimately win the box office in the long run.

I thought critics didn't matter? At least that's what everyone who saw that crappy DaVinci code movie said. :o

Anyway, the reviews I'm reading are pretty much confirming what I suspected: No chemestry between Lois and Clark; Bosworth makes a horrible Lois Lane; stupid kid is a bad plot element; scared to do anything that could potentially alienate the Donner films; and not enough action.

which reviews have you been reading, Tim? almost every one that i've read has said the complete opposite.

Superman Returns will win, no doubt. But PotC with be a much better movie. :o

Rotten Tomatoes has 18 reviews up. The Da Vinci Code, a recent movie with slightly less hype has gotten 200 reviews. Superman Returns will probably get well over 200 reviews. A little too quick to judge, are we not?

Pirates easily. Depp + Bloom + Keira = BO Gold. Believe it or not that the truth. Their like Tom Cruise times 3.

 SR in the 80's or above. Where are the POTC2 reviews?

When I checked it, it was at 78%. Now it's at 79%.

POTC2 reviews aren't out because there are still 12 days until it is released. Superman Returns comes out in 2. Isn't it logical that reviews are up for a movie that comes out in 2 days as opposed to one that comes out in 12?

Plus, the first press screening for PotC2 was *just* this past Thursday. And the premiere was *just* last night. So, be patient.

We've already got one review for PotC2 from Moriarty on AICN, and it's *extremely* positive.

Well, I am sure SR will make more than $300m domesticly, but I still have some doubts about it as a winner.

POTC2 can be winner in box office as I think. It will make about $340-350m domesticly and $470-480m in overseas.

But if SR makes $200m at the end of 2nd week, than it has good WOM and even better legs, what means it can beat POTC2 domesticly.

There 2 situations:

A) POTC2 wins domesticly, foreign and in worldwide. But SR also makes more than $300m domesticly and $700m in worldwide.

B) SR wins domesticly with $325-345m, but makes less than POTC2 in overseas. POTC2 will make a bit more than SR.

I am happy with this, but I wouldn't underrate SR.

It got positive reviews from Variety (!), TIME Magazine, AICN, Dark Horizons, Hollywood Reporter, Newsweek and etc.

They're both going to be long ass movies with almost 2 1/2 hr. running times, so there won't be too many showings per day for either of them.

You know, I forgot to take into the account the fanbases that Bloom, Depp, and Knightley carry. That's a big factor.
