Man of Steel vs Thor TDW, seen 'em both, what do you folks think ? Compare/contrast

Correction-
Superman could go faster then light from what i read but he can't go transwarp speed, but thor can.
Thor in the comics now could fly without his hammer.

Comic thor and hulk info below.
Thor
Superhuman Speed
Hulk and some of his powers.

Some say thor is stronger then superman in the comics too,and that could be true, but movie thor seems about the same level or a tie to mos superman to me.
Thor
Powers and abilities

Dude,
I'm just going by what we saw in the movies (the comics is a whole different thing) and Thor didn't show any super-speed in any of them, in fact I remember him jogging to catch up with Malekith at the end of TDW (Hulk is pretty fast in his films, but not like Superman or the other Kryptonians). And again, Thor vs Kurse = ass kicking for Thor, saved by Loki. Whereas Superman vs Zod = Broken neck for Zod.

All I'm saying is that if you actually watch MOS and Thor TDW /Avengers, it's pretty obvious who's stronger, more durable, and faster. Having said that, Thor is definitely a better fighter, which would make a big difference - but not enough of a difference for Thor to win.

Again, that's IMO, just my opinion.

If you want to bring the comics into it then there's this.....
dcvsmarvel_03_31.jpg

and this

But they team up anyway, and end up buddies
superthor.jpgl

and of course this, which would piss me off if I was a fan of Thor. I mean,
this is just ****ing stupid.

Hero-Envy-Hulk-Thor15.jpg

If you read some blogs on the internet, or even some of the Marvel sites, Thor can pretty much do anything (like Travel in time, cast magic spells, use the Thor-force, the God-blast and he could probably shoot fire-balls out of his ass) - that's kind of why I prefer Superman, as he's a much simpler character, strong, fast, he flies, melts stuff by looking at it, and is pretty much indestructible.

In the same way, I prefer movie Thor to comic book Thor, because he's a simpler character, the God of Thunder, which makes him a big tough guy with a magic hammer who controls the weather -all that other weird stuff just gets in the way.

Unlike a lot of people, I really enjoyed Thor 2: TDW. I thought it was a lot of fun, and the Dark Elves were much better bad-guys than the Frost Giants (although Malekith was really under-used as a villain). That's saying a lot, as I'm not a Thor fan at all.

I find it strange that die-hard Thor fans didn't seem to enjoy TDW that much ( as a die-hard Superman fan I loved MOS, although the same could be said for that film), the action was pretty good, it had a nice mix of light and dark in terms of tone. If they had just left Kat Dennings out of it, it would have been awesome.

BTW I read that blog, and that bit about it not having a lot of action until the last 1/3 was just crap. Obviously the person hadn't really seen Man of Steel, because they missed the fact that it started with the Kryptonian civil war action scene, which included 2 vicious fist fights, and and exploding planet.

Then there's a break where they actually develop the main character, because that's what origin movies do. Not much action there, except the schoolbus crash, the Tornado, and the exploding oil rig.

Of course then there's the battle of Smallville, in which the town gets wrecked, mostly by the army jets and helicopters, although Supes and the Kryptonians do a lot of property damage too.

And of course the last 25 minutes of so which involves a big chunk of Metropolis getting zapped, and a pretty apocalyptic fist fight between Zod and Supes (come on Dude, none of the Thor v Loki fights are even close).

So, I kind of disagree.

But hey, if you're a Thor fan, and you enjoyed Thor TDW, that's cool, it's a fun movie, and I thought the action was well done. I give MOS a 9/10,
because I'm a Superman fan, but I give Thor TDW a solid 8/10 - I reckon it was at least as much fun as Avengers, and the Dark Elves were much scarier bad guys than the Chitauri (yawn).

I AM BOTH SUPERMAN AND THOR FAN.
I LIKE THEM about equal,MAYBE THOR A LITTLE BIT MORE but the stories i like about the same.
Of course their other superheroes and thier stories i like more then these two.

Now the comic fight.
I hope you know the first one was non-canon and a fan vote, that is why superman won.

Marvel will not let that happen again.
It 's in a stronger position now then before.
Keep in mind in dc vs marvel comics, storm beat wonder woman, why?fan vote.
THE WOLVERINE beats lobo,fan vote.
Superboy did not win, spiderman did, why?fan vote.

Movie thor maybe is as strong or weaker then superman from my viewpoint but to me thor looks more powerful then mos superman.

If movie thor loses his hammer, mos superman would win most the time.

So i just have to disagree with you there.

At first i thought MOS SUPERMAN WAS or seem abit more powerful but looking back and watching thor 2 recently AND CAREFULLY AND OTHER MOVIES carefully, thor seemed more powerful so i had to change my mind.

Anyway the only way we would really know is if they are both in the same movie together, but i bet on thor.

Thor does use super speed in battle in the movie.

He flies really fast, that's superspeed but it was really at the end.

Remember malekith knocks thor into the building going up real fast and thor goes back down and flies really fast and knocks malekith.

The battle reminded me of some of the scenes in man of steel to a certain extent but different at the same time.

IT' STILL fresh in my head.
Go back and take look and you see what i mean.
Remember the first movie he flies really fast and puts a big hole in the monster.
So he uses super speed in the movies but it's really flying, not running.

As for the fight scenes i enjoyed them about same but i really like dogfights in the air and space dogfights(deep space 9,star wars stuff)and thor 2 had more of that,so it gets a major plus for me.
I had no idea they were going to do that and the attack of the city and the city fighting back was really great.

Now my view for ground fight scenes.

I think i like them about the same too,but thor was more varied and i really like to see armies(lord of the rings type battles)too and thor had more of that,so overall to me just like it a little better.

Thor had everything covered from my point OF view and i never seen that in a superhero film before,so for a superhero film it was unique.
Whole armies going at it,air combat, attacking the city stuff and one on one action. It just had more things that i like more then man of steel in the action area.

I would RATE THOR 2 ABIT HIGHER but some of the comedy drags it down a bit for me.

Maybe in the future i might rate higher after watching it again and again but for now i rate it a 8/10.
Same score as man of steel.

Malekith VS Frigga
Thor's mother won, won, then got killed but you have to admit that was a great scene right there.
It was unexpected.

Anyway even if i tied the ground battles or say man of steel had better ground battles, thor 2 just outdid man of steel in air battles and had more of them and a awesome air attack on the city,so to me it would be tie or thor action was better on average.

Anyway i thought the ground battle and hand to hand combat in thor 2 was just more varied and on average was done better on average so i give thor 2 a higher rating in action area.

Keep in mind i really enjoyed them both but thor 2 battles remind more of a combination of man of steel and star wars but it's own thing at the same time,so to me that's another major plus.

Another point the fighting and story in thor just seems more closer to the comics and animated shows then man of steel.

Look there are just some things i liked more in man of steel and some things i like more in thor 2 but other things i like about the same.

Superman OR THE kryptonians in the comics and cartoons do not fight that fast on average like they do in MOS.

Kryptonians ONLY DO that when they really mastered thier powers overtime and even then it's rare, and they only move that fast when they are fighting someone like the flash or going all out fighting someone like darkseid(a god)so while i enjoy the fighting it was not truly true to to comics on average.

I like the fact that the marvel fight scenes on average are closer to the comics.

Watching thor or captain america fight etc..is much closer to the comics then the batman and the superman movies so far.
By the way i just seen captain america 2,and if you seen it you will know what i mean.

Like i said i like MOS AND THOR 2 ABOUT THE SAME, that's why i give them both equal ratings for now.

By the way check these out.
The scene before they go into another world
This is superspeed and he could move as fast if he really wants to like mos superman.
It's flying super speed but not running super speed.

(marvel) thor the dark world (2013) thor vs malekith final battle sped up (2014)

Oh one more thing, about the hulk vs superman fight.
Savage hulk starts off weaker then superman and thor,so if they get thier act together fast they could take hulk, but if not hulk will get stronger then them.
Thor has knock out hulk with one punch before.

World war hulk and worldbreaker hulk is closer to superman level in power then savage hulk.
Superman and thor would have to use thier other powers combined with their strength more so to take out these versions of hulk.

By the way i could never understand why some superman fans hate MOS SO I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN.
Thor 2 is not getting as much likes or love AS IT SHOULD and i thought it WAS a great film like MOS.
Of course most folks who seen both like both films.

If you want to know were i am coming from and why i think the way i do just check out these threads AND MY POSTS.

All depends on the writer dude. Check this out.

82985-2498-doc-samson.jpg

I've got that issue, Doc Samson, who's nowhere near as powerful as Hulk,
knocks him clean out. Nice.

I disagree with you about Thor's super-speed (why didn't he use it against Kurse ? why did he have to take the subway ? which I thought was hillarious, but dude, you just can't argue that movie Thor has superspeed).

I enjoyed Thor's 2 fight scenes, especially this one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vc-gWnAKPE0

But Thor only has any kind of flight/speed when using his hammer.

Superman v Thor without his hammer.....not a chance in hell bro.
Remember Thor v Kurse, pretty hard to get past that one. Kurse only
used brute force, not much skill, and he gave Thor an ass-whoopin' !
Which was good, because then Loki had to step up, all in all it made the
movie better.

Anyway, I don't think we're going to agree on this.

But that's okay, to be honest I think movie Thor not being all powerful (which he is in some of the comics) is kind of good, because you honestly wonder HOW he's going to win in the end. One of the things I hate about
comic book Superman-Prime is that he's too invincible - and an ******* !

Anyway, we'll see what Thor gets up to next year, when Age of Ultron comes out.

:super:

:super:

You could say the same thing for cartoon and comic superman. Why he does not use his super speed FOR COMBAT?
Remember alot times he does not himself.
Only the recent movie he does more so.

Superman 2 donner's cut he does not use super speed fighting zod and his crew, but used to catch lois?
Many writers forget to make wonder woman, superman etc.. use super speed, but it's not forgetting.
You could say the writers are inconsistent, but that's how the story is told, same with movie thor.

MAN OF STEEL superman is not exactly like comic superman, but movie thor is more like comic thor, but not as powerful,or as powerful yet.

I think movie thor by the way needs his hammer to fly and move fast so we saying the same thing and on the same page with that one now.

I DON'T think he could fly without his hammer in the movie.

He did not have his hammer with him in the subway and they do show him running normally with it,but they only show thor using super speed flying in the movie so far,not running.

When he is fighting kurse by the way he did not have his hammer,so there was less of a chance he was going to win in a normal hand to hand fight.

With the hammer in his HAND he would be more powerful then kurse AND would have more of chance to beat him.

By the way being more powerful does not mean someone could win all time if they have are having a bad day or depending on story, writer etc...
82985-2498-doc-samson.jpg

Like i said, sometimes the more powerful could have a bad day and it looks like hulk was having a bad day.
It happens.

Anyway like i said thor uses super speed in the movies but only with his hammer and flying, but not combat super speed most of the time, meaning hand to hand moving fast type combat speed like the flash when fighting dr.zoom,
That's what you are talking about and to a point.

In the first movie he did use combat speed but with only one hand and with his hammer only.
In the first movie his hand was going really fast with the hammer fighting the frost giants

Remember this?

I was looking for a clear one. Thanks for giving one.

Like i said thor uses super speed here but flying really fast to attack, not ground super speed but he did use superspeed on the ground in the link above in the first movie fighting the frost giants but only with the hand, not the whole body and only with the hammer in his hand.

Take a look this.
Superman only use super speed a few times here.
CHECK OUT THE COMMENTS.
Read as much as you can inside.

This superman and thor is closer to comics then movies, meaning the costumes and looks and superman fights more like comic and recent cartoon superman then man of steel superman.

These guys could have been use for movie superman.

That's true, writers often act like Superman's super-speed doesn't exist. However, he does actually have super-speed.

Superman+Flash.jpg

But with Thor, he doesn't have super-speed to begin with, he's probably got super-human reflexes, but whereas Superman can run fast enough to keep up with the Flash (when he's not running at full speed), because the Flash is definitely faster

Thor can't run or move super-fast on his own. The only time he moves super-fast is when he is flying with his Hammer.

A lot of Thor fans have given some pretty ridiculous comments about Mjolnir's speed, but in the movies, the Hulk caught it, and Kurse flicked it away. Kurse does not have any kind of Super-speed, he stomps along at a pretty leisurely pace (especially when he's beating the crap out of Thor).

As for Superman. He's taken away GL's ring a bunch of times, which means he moves faster than GL can think.

3138978-9765795541-14977.jpg

But you're right that super-speed seems to be the power he forgets about the most....he doesn't use it very often, whereas other kryptonians do.

That youtube video is hillarious, I've seen it before. However, I think that a fight between Superman and Thor would be a lot like that, and would end the same way.
I think the lesson from that one is "Don't insult Superman's mom."

The problem with comparing the comic book versions of Superman and Thor, is that the writers often change the level of power each character has.

The guy who's on Thor now has Thor doing all sorts of weird stuff, King Rune Thor or whatever.

Superman is always strong and reasonably indestructible, but how strong depends on who's writing the comic.
He got beat up by Lobo once, and then a year later punched Lobo right off the planet.

Superman sometimes gets beat up by Darkseid, like this....

3495855-4513547414-27341.jpg

But then again, he's also beat Darkseid so badly that he can't open his eyes. Nice.

3409075-apokolipsnowl.jpg

Sometimes Superman is a really, skilled fighter ....

2333935-1176209-20_super.jpg

but usually not !

In fact, he famously got beat by Batman (who has no super-powers at all) back in '86 in Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns.

batmanvssuperman.jpg

Of course Tom Taylor didn't think Superman would always put up with Batman's ********.

tumblr_inline_mtbgx5qY0o1r4qnll.jpg

It will be a long time before we see Superman and Thor in a comic together,
and when we do, who knows who will win. Until then we'll just have to wait.

Although, with Disney owning Marvel, who knows ? Thor might win next time.

Cheers

Depends on the green lantern.
Amazo uses superspeed and john stewart slowed him down.
There are other green lantern that have powers of thier own.

Thor's superspeed.
I ONLY COULD GO BY THE EXPERTS and what the lists in looking up thier power says because i know you and i have not read enough thor comics.

Keep in my mind those feats are not canon anymore and red sun superman was never canon and was made to be more powerful in that book then post crisis superman,It never happen.

Post crisis superman never happen either, only game in town and the true superman of the comics is new52 superman.:woot:

Here are some of thor's powers.
You could read the one in bold first below, the superspeed part.

Powers and Abilities
Odin, the Allfather of Asgard, said to Jord (Gaea the Earthmother of Midgard), "I seek an heir whose powers surpass Asgard."

Besides his enormous physical strength, and being durable enough to survive a blast from Celestials,Thor also has energy manipulation powers that are on par with the Silver Surfer. He is also armed with Mjolnir, the mystical warhammer that has been shown to be capable of opening passageways through space and time, blocking all sorts of energy blasts, and bending the elements to its master’s will. Thor has been shown to be able to swing Mjolnir at twice the speed of light. Thor is an Asgardian warrior god, trained and skilled in the arts of battle, and he’s been doing it for ages. While Thor has usually been shown to rely solely on his fighting ability, super strength, and nigh invulnerability, he has many other options available to him if a fight starts going badly. He has complete mastery over the weather, he can open chasms in the Earth, and if worst comes to worst, use the dreaded God-blast, an attack that is so powerful that one time Mjolnir shattered from the amount of power Thor channeled. This god-blast has even caused a tiny crack in the armor of the Celestial Exitar; the force of which created a shock wave which rocked the planet Pangoria to its foundations. While on Earth, Thor once claimed to withhold his power unless fighting someone with similar strength and durability. When facing both the Avengers and the Fantastic Four the Hulk has even stated that Thor with Mjolnir is the only one among them that he considers a threat.

Superhuman Strength: In addition to being the God of Thunder, Thor is also the Asgardian God of Strength, as such he is physically the strongest of the Asgardian gods His feats include destroying an arch weighing over a million tons, crumbling Uru into dust, lifting the Midgard Serpent, who was large enough to coil around the Earth from head to tail multiple times over and crush it in its grip. (However, it should be noted that in this instance, the Serpent was only shown as several times the size of Thor himself, and encircling a small mystic mirror Earth in the Asgardian dimension, which caused natural disasters on the real Earth.) Pushing the Worldengine, which reversed the Yggdrasil Tree . Thor nearly killed Angrir with a powerful blow, who had defeated the base level Red Hulk (He grows much more powerful from absorbing energy). His clash against Gorr shattered entire worlds. He effortlessly threw a piece of star core at the god-bomb. He also physically held together the fissures of a badly damaged moon, and mended it with his lightning.

He has effortlessly snapped adamantium alloy cables by simply flexing. He pushed over leaning Tower of Pisa with his finger. His punch when met with same force has leveled a countryside and even closed dimensional rifts. He has towed the island hydrobase into New York Harbor After being damaged in a battle, Thor literally holds up the George Washington Bridge long enough for Damage Control to fix it. Wonder Man concedes Thor as his superior . He has also resisted the gravity of a neutron star.

Superhuman Speed: Thor can move at extreme speeds. Thor can fly to the sun in a matter of minutes. Thor was even able to strike down a moving Quicksilver and has claimed to have fought foes faster than him. He can throw Mjolnir at several times the speed of light and also swing Mjolnir at several times the speed of light while his strength was reduced in half. It has been established that the speed of Thor's hammer transcends both time & space. In addition, Thor can appear anywhere across the Universe or other dimensions in just seconds. Thor could visually detect objects that move at fantastic speeds (this happened when Thor was the target of artillery fire and when he saw the speedy Hermes. Hela once stated that Thor is as fast as the lightning he commands. Thor can twirl his cape so fast that he creates a tornado.

Flight: Thor has shown the ability to fly and levitate without his hammer.

Thor could run really fast so he has running super speed but that has not been shown in movies yet,but in the comic he runs really fast.
Is he as fast as wonder woman or superman in running speeed?i don't know, but he could run really fast.
Here is that info again.

Superhuman Speed
Thor has the ability to fly at great speed far beyond the abilities of a human being. He is often seen flying at very fast speeds, and has even kept up with the Silver Surfer. He has flown faster than light on multiple occasions. Though Thor’s running speed has never been accurately measured he has been seen moving at speeds faster that the finest human athlete.

We have to be careful when taking about the green lantern because there are many of them with varied levels of power and some could beat superman, some could tie him or some could lose to him just like there those from his home planet but the info below is pre-new52 stuff, even the superman feats above.

Anyway green lanterns are really fast too .

Superman using superspeed and hal stops him
- Second, at least some Green Lanterns (Hal Jordan and John Stewart, specifically) are capable of stopping Superman in his tracks if they have to.
3664172-7147450547-stopp.jpg

john stewart-
3664175-2081177343-Johns.jpg

I GOT THIS FROM ANOTHER WEBSITE

By the way a normal powered green lantern could set thier ring on auto fire and the ring could deal with superman or those on his level or a speedster.

3664347-2537507613-67391.jpg

John currently sets his ring on auto fire being extremely cautious towards what Superman did to bruce.

A human may not have a reaction or speed time with a Kryptonian. That's why the ring does everything for what he wishes. John knows currently knows who he's dealing with. GL's are proven to move FTL.

GLs are basically mini-cosmics when they get a chance to get a shot off.
Sodom Yat and Mogo are likely fast and/or durable enough that they can get that move off without any stipulations.
True, I think if a GL (earth GLs) have the amount of time to use their auto shield and concentrate on their willpower to keep their shield up while supes is speed blitzing, that will give a GL an amount of time to to set their ring on auto fire and counter blitz the attack.
If I'm correct I think Hal, John, and Kyle used intangibility. I never seen GL's used Intangibility for a good defensive strategy during a battle before. Hopefully if you or anyone could tell me or can post up scans would be useful.
Mogo is a highly telepathic/telekinesis planet. I don't know if it will be a fair fight between supes and mogo.
I remembered when Superman and Batman agreed to search for kryptonites all over the world with different colored kryptonite including the blue one that contains magic.
GL's ring constructs always were fast that's why in issues like Rebirth when John went towards Supes eyes. Supes didn't react to dodge the attack. The same thing goes in when max was using his mind telepathically.
Supes noted John has the quickest draw compared to the league. I don't think in this scan John has reaction time or set his ring to do that for him. After all when Supes grabbed the martian manhunter, he didn't go into blitzing, I think it was human reaction time. GL constructs are fast enough to give in a decent fight against supes. If you notice, Supes didn't have time to move away from his construct and the construct was almost with flashes speed.
In this scan, John didn't use enough willpower that he needed to keep his construct from shattering. Supes noted he had to use all of his strength to break through his construct. One thing to note, John's willpower exceeded his ring due to his memory about his failure saving Xanshi.
If either Superman wins or GL wins it wouldn't be an easy fight, but will be interesting.
Note -The will power THAT john use that exceed the power of the ring was to bring a planet back and was shown in the 90's and he created moons. This is a great feat that no green lantern has done or matched before and since. When supeman broke john construct, trust me,john was not using enough will power.By the way he does not need to use his full will power to hold superman in his construct. He just need to use enough and of course he did above but he did before and he could do it again.Hal as done too,you know hold superman in a construct so it's clear that early new 52 hal jordan is not as powerful as the early hal pre-new 52 or recent hal.

Star sapphire has beaten superman too in comics WHEN USING HE USE SUPERSPEED TO GO AT HER.She knock him out and hal had to save him.

Some green lanterns could think just as fast as superman.

Green lantern sodam yat.
Powers and abilities
Daxamite powers

3664316-9263282617-250px.jpg

Like their Kryptonian cousins, the Daxamites gain a large number of abilities when exposed to yellow sunlight including super strength; flight; super speed; super hearing; X-ray, heat, microscopic, and telescopic vision; and super breath. While the Daxamites are invulnerable while under yellow sunlight, the substance lead is still very lethal to them even in small quantities, as Kryptonite is to Kryptonians. Due to his exposure to lead from lead shielding at a nuclear power plant and uranium stabbed into him by Superboy-Prime, Yat must wear his Green Lantern ring at all times to stop the lead poisoning or he will die within a few minutes.

Ion powers
The benevolent Ion entity bestows its host with powers similar to a Green Lantern Corps Power Ring and the Starheart. With those powers, Sodam Yat has been described by some as the most powerful superhero in the universe. However, access to the powers can be controlled through his power ring, which he is required to wear constantly, allowing the Guardians of the Universe to shut off his Ion powers. In the Legion of Three Worlds miniseries, it is revealed that being host to the Ion entity has allowed Sodam to survive, unaging, into the 31st century.

Has for that thor vs superman fight video that was fan base too.but thor won that by the way in that first round, superman was knock out, but superman came back with a sneak attack and thor had no idea the sun makes him recover.
If thor knock him out the other way, there would have been no round 2.

Although, with Disney owning Marvel, who knows ? Thor might win next time.

I think you are right about that one.

Take a look the hulk vs doomsdays and other superman vs thor vids inside.

Watch and listen to this video very carefully.

Thor has superspeed, flying, running and reaction speed etc...
This video explains why you do not see him using his other speed feats more often but to be fair we do not read that many thor comics, well speaking for myself there.
So the best bet is to read about a superhero powers FIRST AND THEN listen to those who more of the experts or read alot of thor comics.

Grudge Match 20: Superman vs Thor

Powers

Powers and Abilities
Superhuman Strength: The original level of Algrim's strength is unknown, but he was apparently the strongest of the Dark Elves. However, his strength was below that of Thor. After being transformed into his present form, Kurse was said to have double the strength of Thor. After Thor donned his enchanted Belt of Strength to make his strength on par with Kurse's once more, The Beyonder further augmented Kurse's strength to four times that of Thor.

Superhuman Speed: Kurse was capable of running and moving at speeds much greater than those of even the finest human athlete.

Living Armor: Once again, due to the Beyonder's augmentation, Kurse's armor was a living part of him, growing organically, and helped contribute to his already staggering durability.

Abilities
Kurse was a formidable hand to hand combatant, relying primarily on brawling techniques that allowed him to make full use of his vast strength.

Keep in mind there other more powerful then thor and superman in DC AND MARVEL,ON EARTH AND BEYOND but superman and thor just happen to be the most famous of the really powerful superheros, that's why many folks think they are the most powerful in marvel and dc,and they are not.
As a comic fan,you know this too,but i just want to mention this for others that come here.

Superman's Powers and Abilities
Modern Age
John Byrne
John Byrne's post-Crisis on Infinite Earths revision of Superman in 1986 reduced the character's abilities and power levels. This was designed to make it easier for writers to come up with suitable challenges for the hero and to eliminate or reduce those powers that were "too sensational or unbelievable for modern audiences".[33] As shown in Byrne's Man of Steel miniseries and subsequent comics, the previous emphasis on yellow sun energy as a source for Superman's powers was retained. However, instead of losing his powers instantly when exposed to red sun radiation (as is the case during the Silver/Bronze Age continuity), his powers instead wane gradually. Additionally, a lack of exposure to a yellow sun will also cause Superman's powers to slowly diminish, as seen in the Final Night storyline. Superman's origin story (as shown in Man of Steel) was altered so that his powers develop gradually over years as his body absorbs yellow sunlight. Conversely, Superman can expose himself to increased solar radiation to temporarily increase his power.

Superman's strength was reduced to the point where he could no longer move giant planets but can still move certain amounts. Superman's other physical powers, including his stamina, as well as his visual powers were also similarly reduced, with Superman needing an oxygen mask for prolonged travel in space or underwater. His mental abilities are also curtailed, with Superman no longer having an eidetic memory. The powers of super-ventriloquism and super-hypnosis are not generally used during this period, although it is never stated whether they have been eliminated or not. However, the powers of virtually all powerful characters in the DCU who were a match for the pre-Crisis Superman have also had their powers reduced in the same proportion, e.g. Captain Marvel.

Superman's ability to fly under his own power is explained with the concept of "self telekinesis", an invisible telekinetic field that allows him to lift himself off the ground. Any objects that Superman touches are also enveloped by the field and this allows him to move them with the force of his will. In addition, the idea of a supercharged bioelectric "aura" which acts as an invisible "force field" around and within his body was introduced by Byrne to provide an explanation for his invulnerability. Superman's skin-tight aura allows his equally tight costume to come through his fights relatively undamaged, although his cape will tear as it is not protected by the aura. (Pre-Crisis, his costume and cape were made of Kryptonian fabric that was invulnerable under a yellow sun.[34]) Superman's invulnerability is still great enough to withstand one 50 megaton nuclear explosion, but he will be knocked out as result.

Unlike previous versions, Superman's hair and beard grow normally, requiring grooming using his heat vision carefully reflected off a piece of the ship that brought him to Earth, burning off unwanted growth.

After John Byrne

After Byrne's departure from the series, Superman's powers and abilities once again increased. He regained the ability to travel interstellar distances and to hold his breath for the amount of time required to make such journeys, and move dwarf planets such as Pluto. During the "Up, Up and Away!" storyline he regained his eidetic memory. He still retains his weakness to kryptonite, but instead of stripping him of his abilities, it causes extreme nausea, confusion, and pain. He is also still vulnerable to magic and can be harmed by magical creatures, which makes allies like Zatanna, a powerful magician and sorceress, and Captain Marvel, whose similar powers are based on magic and the gods, valuable assets (see Superman/Shazam: First Thunder).

Exposure to the light of a younger blue sun provides Superman with increased physical abilities, and the power of "Superman Vision", which allows him to bestow his abilities on other beings for a limited time.[35]

Though still largely invulnerable, Superman has been shown to be susceptible to damage from other yellow-sun powered Kryptonians such as Power Girl, Supergirl, General Zod, Non, and Ursa (as well as the Daxamite heroes Mon-El and Sodam Yat); and characters with powers comparable to those of Kryptonians—including the heroes Captain Marvel, Icon, Martian Manhunter, Orion, and Ultra Boy; and the villains Atlas, Bizarro, Black Adam, Cyborg Superman, Darkseid, Despero, Doomsday, Lobo, Monarch, Mongul, Ultraman, Validus, and the current version of Brainiac (when connected to his ship). Most notably, he has consistently been portrayed as weaker than Superboy-Prime, a character who possesses powers closer to those of the Silver Age version of Superboy.[36][37]

and
Superman's Powers and Abilities

The powers of the DC Comics character Superman have changed a great deal since his introduction in the 1930s. As the character developed, his abilities were enhanced in order to maintain the interest of his audience. The extent of his powers peaked during the 1970s and 80's, to the point where it became difficult to create suitable challenges for the character. As a result, his powers were significantly reduced when his story was rebooted by writer John Byrne after the Crisis on Infinite Earths series. After Byrne's departure, Superman's powers were gradually increased again, although he still remains weaker than his Pre-Crisis incarnation.

Modern Era

Comparative strength

While Superman is frequently assumed to be the strongest hero in the DC universe, following the Byrne reboot, his strength tends to fluctuate depending on the amount of solar energy his cells have absorbed and the writer of the particular story. He has received a temporary boost in power after surviving a plunge into the Sun, and has had his powers depleted when deprived of such energy. The limits of how much energy Superman can absorb, and by extension the maximum limits of his power, has never been stated. Additionally, because of the solar energy that empowers him, he has often been depicted as being potentially immortal, as well as having a different ageing process, as seen in the Grant Morrison written series set in the far future of the DC Universe, DC One Million.[1] The canonicity of this series is unknown.

Characters such as Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman, and Martian Manhunter have been described variously over time as equals, near-equals, or, in the last case, even superior.[2] Captain Marvel has been able to knock him out with 1-2 punches by taking him by surprise,[3] and Superman has stated outright that the latter has the advantage in a fist-fight due to his magic-derived powers.[4] When the Modern Era Supergirl was introduced, it was suspected that she was stronger than her cousin, but this was due to the fact that Superman had learned to restrain his strength through years of living with weaker individuals, an ability that Kara Zor-El had not yet learned.

It is important to note that while Superman is among the strongest DC heroes, there are many who match his strength, most notably Darkseid, Bizarro, Lobo, the Cyborg Superman, Eradicator, the original Mongul, General Zod and Black Adam, while Doomsday and Despero have occasionally been shown as stronger, the former being able to effortlessly stand his ground against the entire Justice League,[5] and the latter defeating Superman, Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman, and Power Girl at the same time.[6] Heroes and villains with magical capabilities, like the Spectre, Zatanna, and Doctor Fate, have displayed cosmic level power vastly beyond Superman's capabilities. The Flash possesses the ability to travel at the speed of light, shunting his mass towards infinity, and enabling him to perform such feats as defeating a white martian with one punch,[7] or almost overcoming the Anti-Monitor singlehandedly.[8] Hal Jordan, with the will-fueled power of the Green Lantern ring, has also been cited as being a match for Superman, being able to lay him down with one punch while possessed by Parallax.[9] The Guardians of the Universe allegedly possess abilities dwarfing those of regular Green Lantern Corps members. Kyle Rayner, inhabited by the benevolent symbiote "Ion", was recently touted as the most powerful of Earth's superheroes.

One villain that is often portrayed as vastly superior to Superman in every way is the five-dimensional entity Mr. Mxyzptlk. While the limits and nature of Mxyzptlk's powers is unclear, he is often portrayed as being, for all practical purposes, 'omnipotent,' and his encounters with Superman often amount to him simply toying with the Man of Steel.

The problem with canon is.... that there really isn't any canon.

Something's only canon, until somebody comes along and changes it
or says it isn't.

To be honest DC retcon and re-set their multiverse reaonably often
(eg 1985's crisis on Infinite Earths, and then Infinite crisis and final crisis
and now 52).

So what's canon, if the multiverse itself changes all the time ?
Also, given that DC stories take place on a lot of different Earths,
what might be canon on one Earth isn't canon on another.

That's probably one thing I like about Marvel is that they don't
seem to retcon as often as DC do. Having said that, I loved
Crisis on Infinite Earths (back in 1985, it was awesome), but since then
the retcons haven't been great.
As for Marvel, the original cross-over, Secret wars, was awesome too.
The infinity gauntlet...yawn. But that's just my opinion.

Sorry, back to the topic.

Could a Green Lantern beat Superman ? depends on the writer,
in a Green Lantern comic (which is the one where John Stewart shoots Superman in the eyes) probably.

( of course just a thought, Superman Prime takes on the GL corps, the Sinestro corps and kills a guardian with his bare hands, and is immune to Mxyptlk's powers. He's meant to represent the silver age Superman )

If it was a Superman comic, not a chance. Superman has taken the rings
off of Green lanterns with....super speed.

2864701-supes_vs._gl3.png

"I've set my ring to auto-fire?" how often do GL's do that, outside of that particular story............? And if you think about it, it's pretty stupid, because then the ring would be thinking for itself, whereas it's supposed to be the willpower of the wearer operating it (so for GL's to use the ring power they need to think about it, usually). Oh well, at least it sounds cool.

Anyway, this is why the thread was specifically about the movie versions of Superman and Thor (actually it's not even really about that, I started this thread to see which film people enjoyed more, and why.
Although I did start that other thread for Man of Steel Superman vs TDW Thor). And, as I said before, Thor, in his movies hasn't done anything that suggests to me that he has the strength or durabilty or speed to beat Man of Steel Superman. He couldn't even knock out the Hulk with Mjolnir (he could knock him down, but the Hulk got straight up again).

So, we're getting a big off topic here. Hey if Thor has super-speed in the comics that's cool, but he sure as heck doesn't show any in the film.
And when I used to read Thor comics he didn't have any - sure he was
quicker than a normal human, but not much faster.

(by the way, what does Superhuman speed mean ? If I could run at 50 km an hour, that would be superhuman, whereas the Flash runs at 186,000 miles per second, that's also super-human. So saying someone can move at superhuman speed isn't all that helpful. (e.g. in his home universe the Flash is many, many times faster than Quicksilver, but both have superhuman speed).

(and come on, "he can throw Mjolnir at several times the speed of light" if you threw something that fast, it would travel backwards in time -that's just silly. Thor is a cool character, without ridiculous stuff like that, I don't even know why people write that ****. )

That's why I don't take any written stuff too seriously, especially the stuff online, whether it's about Thor, Superman or whoever, the only guide you can use is what that character can do in the comics, when you're actually reading them, and since what's canon and what's not is almost impossible to work out, and changes all the time, why worry about it ?

I still love this panel where Hulk beats up Thor with his own hammer.
Canon or not, it's hillarious, although I'm sure Thor fans absolutely hate it.
It's probably the same way Superman fans feel when Superman gets
beat up by Batman (and then in a comic that comes out a month later, Supes can move the moon).

2967080-2040377-thorowned.jpg

That time Thor had it coming. LOL. I'm sure you could find plenty of panels where Superman gets beat up by a smurf or something like that.

Haha all superheroes get beat up badly at some point. Just the nature of things.

That's one of reasons i became more of a marvel fan again.
They stick to the story or canon.

OF COURSE THERE ARE MORE REASONS I MENTION IN THE THREAD.
DC reboots too much and do silly stuff like making hal jordan more silly or weaker,of course in HIS own comics later he seems to be not silly or as weak like he was in THE reboot of justice league.

OF COURSE that's when HE was young and starting out,but other versions when he was young and starting out did not make him that weak or silly.

Remember lantern corps rings are really highly advanced computers, they could BE set to go on auto by will power for firepower and shields.
Thier is a list of thier powers by the way.

As for superman, taking off rings off green lantern rings, they ARE most likely rookie lanterns.
Rookie lanterns are in the same tier level with superman but not as powerful on average.
Like i said ,rookie lanterns of course are basically on the same basic power level, but not as powerful on average and depends on the story, the rookie and the writer.

Hal and john normally dealing with thier normal power before the new52 they were abit more powerful then modern superman in the post crisis canon stories and have more powers.

Of COURSE ALL LANTERNS have more powers then kryptonians but if they don't have enough will power, experience are not well prepared, they have a greater chance to lose to a well prepared and experienced kryptonian like superman or even flash or wonder woman.

For rookie lanterns or rookie kryptonians they power levels are about the same so the fight could go either way same with more experienced lanterns and kryptonians.

In the pre-52 even well trained, experienced green lanterns could lose to experienced and well prepared kryptonians like superman or even rookies, but if well prepared they have a better chance of not not losing.
If really well prepared they should not lose at all because the way their powers are to be honest compared to a kryptonian.

In other words, well prepared, really strong will powered, experienced and well trained green lanterns at thier best should be able to beat well trained, experienced and well prepared kryptonians at the best.

If a green lantern is missing any of these requirements or some of these requirements they could lose or tie the fight depending on green lantern and will power at that time.

The new52,of course superman did start of more powerful then hal,but recent hal,i do not know because i have not kept up with his story in the new52 yet, only the beginning.

Now supergirl would be closer in power with a rookie lantern.

Remember wonder woman has beaten supergirl and powergirl, and i thought that could not happen but when i read it for the first time,i was shocked.

Even supergirl as taken a ring off a lantern and was well trained lantern, john stewart, but she was evil and he was not prepared.
Of course hardcore green lantern fans say that's bull, but you could say john was not prepared because he thought supergirl was good.

Superman and supergirl could only take off the ring off a lantern if they ARE not well prepared.
Hardcore green lanterns fans say it should not happen at all and the ring has defenses for that, and it's poor writing, but that's another topic.
EVEN BATMAN DID THAT TO HAL JORDAN AND I WAS SURPRISED THAT HAPPEN TOO IN THIS NEW REBOOT.

Again hardcore green lanterns fans say it should not happen at all and the ring has defenses for that, and it's poor writing, but that's another topic.

To beat them a lantern has to be well trained and prepared,if not they could be taken down by superman or the flash,or wonder woman.

Remember some lanterns in space, earth and on other planets have beaten superpowered beings more powerful then themselves before, but so have superman, wonder woman and supergirl.

Sodam yat by the way is a match for superman prime but was a rookie in their first fight.
Green lanterns ION Kyle Rayner and hal possessed by Parallax would BE ON A HIGHER LEVEL then superman/boy prime.
In fact their level of power is on the level Anti-Monitor or abit higher.

Superman/boy prime was closer to silver age superman, but still not on par.

I think Zatanna had something to do with Mxyzptlk too i think from what i heard from others and made it easier for superman prime to deal with him.

Superman fans would say batman has never beaten superman in canon either, only in non canon stories so far.
That comes up alot vs threads.
In movie the only speed thor uses his hand speed and flying but not overall reaction and no running speed.

The youtube link in THE thor vs superman VID. thor in the comics have overall reaction speed too,but just not as fast a superman in THAT area.

Of course thor flies faster then light speed,so he is faster in flying speed then superman.

Last edited:
Like i said i,even if thor is not as strong or as strong as movie mos,or not as fast, i still think he as a chance to take him out, and still is a little bit more powerful.

BY the way for superheros powers and what they have done , i go by both.
If i have not read what superheros has done overtime then reading thier bio info is still the one of the best ways to start.Of course comics are, that's so clear, but if someone has not read consistently or read little of the wonder woman comics etc..,the other best place to read about them is the DC bio info, wiki, comicvine and wikipedia.
Same with marvel.

Canon

557243-canonpic.jpg

Canon, in regards to comic books, is what is considered to be "real," "what really happened" or "what that character is really like" as opposed to events, etc., that happened in comic books, but nobody "counts it" as being "real" or "actually happened."

No other fiction genre comes close to comic books when it comes to the concept of canon. The first reason is that most comic books, a 70 year genre, come on a monthly basis and can continue indefinitely. This raises many temporal problems in canon: Is Lois Lane actually over seventy years old? Did Captain America really fight Nazis during World War Two?

And over time, a character can go through different changes and have different writers. As anyone who has followed a character for a length of time would know, this poses problems, especially since quality or vision of the character may vary, and sometimes the plots can become so bad or so outrageous, people sometimes ignore a story in regards to canon. It could just be a technical issue like a character before could lift only 500 pounds, but in the latest issue, they're lifting something heavier than that. Was it an oversight? Will it be revealed later why that character has more strength?

Also, in comic books, there is some consistency and coherency expected within that comic universe. This is a problem in comics: take Batman for instance, he stars in multiple ongoing and limited titles, and can guest star in various other titles. All these have different writers with different ideas. Batman is also problematic because he's been in superhero titles like JLA, yet stars in more mundane detective stories. Also, as with Wolverine, people ask "how does he find the time to star in all his titles and do all those guest shots?" Some aspects of "reality" are ignored when it comes to canon, especially time aspects.

Another relatively unique feature of comics is that they re-re-re...tell origin stories. In each retelling, they can add or take away details which can contradict previous tellings. They can even give a fresh new origin without mention of the previous origin stories, and the reader has to infer that the latest origin story is the "correct" one.

A problem also lies, within the concept of canon itself, that is people have to agree what is canon, and there can always be differing opinions on what is canon or not.

Star Wars Canon
In Star Wars canon, there are five different classes. If a higher class of canon contradicts something in a lower class, the events of the lower class are nullified. An example of this happening would be that in the novelization of The Empire Strikes Back, Hobbie Klivian dies when he crashes into an AT-AT. Because this didn't happen in the film, Hobbie was available to be used in later fiction such as Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor. The canon types are:

G-Canon. This is the canon class for the films and is named for George Lucas. An example would be: Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

T-Canon. This is for television shows. An example would be: Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

C-Canon. This is the canon for the Expanded Universe, it is for the comics, novels, video games etc. Star Wars: Dark Empire is an example.

S-Canon. Any thing Star Wars that has not been officially confirmed whether it is canon or not falls under S-Canon. Some Star Wars: Tales comics are examples of this.

N-Canon. N-Canon is confirmed as not canonical. Star Wars: Infinities - A New Hope is an example of this.

Star Trek Canon

Original Star Trek

The creators of Star Trek defined the Star Trek canon as limited to the contents of television episodes and feature films. So Star Trek comics, like Star Trek novels and other fiction, developed under the assumption that they were all non-canon in relation to the screen versions. Which stories within the comics themselves are more or less canon is debatable, particularly since the franchise has spanned many publishers. A formal hierarchy has never been established.

Alternate Universe

The alternate Star Trek universe that began with the 2009 film Star Trek presents the opposite case. Film writer Roberto Orci has consulted with the team creating the IDW Star Trek comics from the outset of this universe. The mini-series Countdown provided backstory for Nero, the villain of the 2009 film. Similarly, the min-series Countdown to Darkness provided elements that appeared in the 2013 film Star Trek: Into Darkness. The plot of Section 31 that was introduced in this film continues to be developed in the on-going Star Trek comics. So the alternate Star Trek universe provides a rare example where films and comics create a single, coordinated canon.

Canon
In the context of fiction, the canon of a fictional universe comprises those novels, stories, films, etc. that are considered to be genuine (or "official"), and those events, characters, settings, etc. that are considered to have inarguable existence within the fictional universe. Usually items that are considered canon come from the original source of the fictional universe while non-canon material comes from adaptations or unofficial items. Generally, Expanded Universes are not considered canon, though there are exceptions which are considered near-canon, or in the case of Star Wars, the Expanded Universe is considered full canon. In layman's terms, one could basically say that something that is canon is something that "actually happened" in that universe.

Marvel Universe Most, but not all, comic books published by Marvel Comics are set in a shared world known as the Marvel Universe. The canon for this world comprises all the comics not stated to be set in an alternate universe, except those specifically contradicted by later stories. The events may not have occurred exactly as shown, however, owing to the floating timeline (For instance, during the 1960s, Ben Grimm said he had fought in the World War II alongisde Nick Fury; during the 2000s, Grimm himself considered that the idea of him fighting in the World War II was ridiculous, as he would be much older).
Alternate universes in Marvel Comics include, for example, the "Ultimate" line of Marvel comics, which have their own canon independent of the core Marvel universe.

Appearances of the Marvel Comics characters in other media are not considered canon.

Canon (fiction)

In fiction, canon is the material accepted as part of the story in an individual fictional universe. It is often contrasted with, or used as the basis for, works of fan fiction. The term "canon" can be used either as a noun, referring to "the original work from which the fan fiction author borrows,"[1] or as an adjective to describe whether or not certain elements are accepted as authoritative parts of the fictional universe.[2] Fan-fiction would be described as "non-canon," while an event from the official source material would be "canon." The alternative terms mythology and continuity are often used, with the former being especially to refer to a richly detailed fictional canon requiring a large degree of suspension of disbelief (e.g. an entire imaginary world and history).

Origin
The use of the word "canon" in reference to a set of texts derives from Biblical canon, the set of books regarded as scripture, as contrasted with non-canonical Apocrypha.[3] The term was first used by analogy in the context of fiction to refer to the Sherlock Holmes stories and novels, written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Ronald Knox used the term in a 1911 essay "Studies in the Literature of Sherlock Holmes" to distinguish Doyle's works from subsequent pastiches by other authors.[4][5] It has subsequently been applied to many media franchises. Among these are science fiction and fantasy franchises such as Star Trek, Star Wars, Halo, Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, BioShock, Doctor Who, Middle-Earth, A Song of Ice and Fire, the Narnia series, the The Dark Tower books, and Dinotopia, in which many stories have been told in different media, some of which may contradict or appear to contradict each other.[5]

Canonicity

When there are multiple "official" works or original media, the question of what is and what is not canonical can be unclear. This is resolved either by explicitly excluding certain media from the status of canon (as in the case of Star Trek), by assigning different levels of canonicity to different media (as in the case of Star Wars), by considering different but licensed media treatments official within their own continuities but not across them (as with Battlestar Galactica), or not resolved at all. The use of canon is of particular importance with regard to reboots or re-imaginings of established franchises, such as the 2009 Star Trek film, because of the ways in which it influences the viewer experience.[6]

The official Star Trek website describes Star Trek canon as "the events that take place within the live-action episodes and movies" (that is, the television series Star Trek, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Enterprise, and the Star Trek motion pictures).[7] Events, characters and story lines from tie-in novels, comic books, video games and Star Trek: The Animated Series are explicitly excluded from the Star Trek canon, but the site notes that elements from these sources have been subsequently introduced into the television series, and says that "canon is not something set in stone."[7] One example of a non-canonical element that later became canonical in the Star Trek universe was the name "Tiberius" becoming the official middle name of Enterprise captain James T. Kirk. The name was introduced in the Star Trek animated series, and was later added into the official biography of the character by its mention in the live-action film Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

The Star Wars canon exists on several levels. The highest level is the three original Star Wars films, and statements by George Lucas; tie-in fiction from the Expanded Universe has a different level of canonicity.[5] The complex system is maintained by Leland Chee, a Lucasfilm employee.[5] The makers of Doctor Who have generally avoided making pronouncements about canonicity, with Russell T Davies explaining that he does not think about the concept for the Doctor Who TV series or its spin-offs.[8][9][10]

Fan fiction is almost never regarded as canonical. However, certain ideas may become influential or widely accepted within fan communities, who refer to such ideas as "fanon", a portmanteau of fan and canon.[5][11][12]

Fanon is a common feature in large franchises and fictional universes where there are many canon and non-canon works, as in the Star Trek universe.

Yeah, that's messed up but it is hillarious.:woot:

Superman prime vs the Guardian.

This is what happen.

Later on, during the final battle between the Green Lantern and Sinestro Corps, The Anti-Monitor is severely injured when the Green Lanterns throw Warworld at him like a grenade. Prime takes this opportunity to turn on him and throws the Anti-Monitor into deep space. Prime is then attacked by both Corps and kills several members from both sides. Before any more lives can be lost, one of the Guardians uses himself as a living bomb and explodes himself to kill Prime. The explosion does not kill Kal-El Prime but merely transports him far across the cosmos. An unexpected result of the transport was that Kal-El Prime's atoms are infused with a large portion of the Guardian's own energies that the Guardian thought would destroy Kal-El Prime. The infusion of the Guardian's energy as part of his energy absorption and processing ability restructures his body to now appear as a fully adult man rather than his actual age of only 19.

By the way new-52 superman from what i have read is stronger then post crisis superman, but not as durable.
He is faster and smarter, but as less combat skills, less energy projection, mean he does not have super breath and super freeze breath and so far sun dipping does not make him more powerful in the new52.

Sun dipping just makes him recover his powers, not boost them and we have no real idea if he could live forever or is immortal in this new canon.

Science Fiction & Fantasy Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for science fiction and fantasy enthusiasts.

As of 2012, how many different canon versions of the Superman character exist?

He is what he is, but he isn't what he used to be. How many versions of Kal-El, aka Clark (Superman) Kent have there been since he first appeared in 1938's Action Comics #1? I'm looking for the subset of canon Supermen and the differences between them, I'm not looking for a list of actors. For instance, after 1992's "The Death of Superman", he came back in several different incarnations.

P.S: Bizarro doesn't count.

1 Answer

This list does not include every alternate version of Superman, nor does it deal with his first animated appearances in the 1940's Fleisher Superman Adventures, The New Adventures of Superman series from the 1960s, his appearances in the Super Friends in the 1970s and 1980s, his award winning Superman: The Animated Series in the 1990s or the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited appearances. Nor does it include the All-Star Superman who is an amalgam of all of the printed versions of Superman bound into one.

Earth-2 Pre-Crisis, Golden Age, Superman, Kal-L - deceased, removed from continuity during Crisis on Infinite Earths; Killed in the second Infinite Crisis Saga; Reanimated for Blackest Day Saga. What a crappy way to treat the greatest hero ever!

Earth-1 Pre-Crisis, Silver Age, Superman - removed from continuity during the recent reboot of the DCnU. Longest lasting version of the character, married to Lois Lane. Most well-known version of the character. Also the version used for the movie versions of the character.

Earth-3, Pre-Crisis, (later rebooted in the Anti-matter Universe) Ultraman - Alternate Superman, villain, member of the Crime Syndicate, took over their world until it was destroyed by the first Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Earth-1 Pre-Crisis, Silver Age, Superboy - lasted for 40 years and eventually retconned out of the DCU during the Crisis on Infinite Earth event. Replaced with hybrid Superboy.

Man of Steel, Post-Crisis - John Byrne - major reboot of character, significant reduction of powers.

Death of Superman Saga/Reign of the Supermen: Creates Steel, Eradicator, Hybrid Superboy - Kon-El and Cyborg Superman - Hank Henshaw; During the death of Kal-El after his monumental struggle with Doomsday, these four characters appeared, each believing they could replace Superman in his role as the guardian of Metropolis and Humanity.

"Mullet Superman" - not a new character but brought back from the dead, more powerful than ever. After Superman returned to life ending the Reign of the Supermen storyline, he sported a distinctive and often disliked mullet haircut. Superman was also significantly stronger after his "death."

ArvZH.jpg

Superman Red and Superman Blue: Superman becomes an energy being and is split into two distinct beings. An old story from the Curt Swan era where Superman is split into two beings is redone in a modern theme giving Kal-El distinctively new powers based in electromagnetic manipulation. Commonly called the Electric Superman, most readers disliked the transformation intensely and could not wait until Classic Superman was restored.

Superman 1,000,000, Kal Kent, a descendant of Superman from the 853 century and leader of the Justice Legion Alpha. This version of Superman has powers on par with the Silver Age Superman at his peak of power.

Superman-Prime - Kal-El; having retired to living in the center of the Sun, this version of Superman has moved away from a human existence and lends his powers to his descendants. He is a god-like being of immense power.

Superboy-Prime; Earth-Prime, Infinite-Crisis - A version of the character from an Earth without superheroes. Recently went mad and was believed destroyed during the Countdown to Final Crisis Saga. After some introspective wrangling back on Earth Prime, he eventually is driven mad and imprisoned in the Source Wall. Good riddance. One of the saddest character conversions as well as one of the least well written stories, ever. Superboy-Prime started as a completely sympathetic character turned into one of the worst parody villains in DC history.

The Kingdom Superman, a famous alternative Superman and future history that was later merged into the primary storyline during the Hypertime Years. This Superman retires after the murder of Lois Lane and while he does, more nihilistic heroes take up the reigns. His return to the struggle causes epic upheavals on that world. Award-winning artwork by Alex Ross and story by Mark Waid.

DCnU - New 52 - Earth-0, Superman: Also known as Armored Superman (Superman) or Blue-Jean Superman (Action Comics). This is the latest version of Superman since DC has started their latest reboot of the DC new Universe called the DCnU or the New 52, denoting 52 separate universes that survived their previous reboot. Much of what we know about Superman has been retained with the obvious exceptions of his involvement with Lois Lane (she has, at least temporarily) been supplanted with his interest in Wonder Woman and his costume losing its briefs and becoming a suit of nano-technological armor.

It sounds like this person he has read many thor and superman comics and he says thor could move almost as fast as superman in reaction speed and running speed but superman has abit of an edge.

I was surprise when i read and heard this info myself recently but he his a god,so i have no problem if this is recent.

Absolutely wrong. What a wild accusation.

Thor does have super speed/reflexes and has occasionally shown it. It's one of those powers that for some reason, he doesn't like to use a lot. While he isn't known for it or showcases it much, he does indeed possess it (guess it depends on the writers). A couple examples: In a classic Thor issue, he is actually shown to have micro-second combat speed during a fight, and more recently was faster than Quicksilver in combat.

I think it is a combination of: 1) If Thor always used Super Speed in combat situations, he would be absolutely unstoppable. 2) Thor's character is more that he wants to use his immense strength and magical power to just pound and smash away and plain over power his opponents. He is known for almost always holding back and using 1/3 of his total power as well. Sometimes the way he fights, (ex: against the Hulk) he almost seems to want to make things an even fight.

I can post a few scans if you would like.

If you are talking about flight speed, yes, he absolutely has super speed. He can 'fly' (travel is probably the better word) faster than light speed, and I believe has flown several times the speed of light in the past as well.

Does Thor have Super-Speed?

Note- from my view, even if he uses superspeed in a fight,he still could be beat by others in marvel so he is not absolutely unstoppable because there are others just as fast or faster and as strong or stronger etc..
So that was fanboy talk but everything else he said seems to BE right.
