The big-budget movie adaptation of comic superhero Green Lantern will be filmed in Sydney, with production to begin later this year.
The movie, produced by DC Comics and Warner Brothers, will be directed by Martin Campbell, the man behind the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale.
It is expected to create around 500 jobs in NSW with pre-production to start in July and filming to begin in November at Sydney's Fox Studios.
The filming is expected to take six to nine months.
"Bringing Green Lantern to NSW is a major coup," Premier Nathan Rees said when making the announcement at Fox Studios on Thursday.
"Films such as this invest heavily in the local economy and the flow on effects for local services such as transport, construction and the hotel industry."
State Development Minister Ian Macdonald said the government had worked with the producers to bring the film to NSW, with strong interest from other areas including Victoria and Queensland.
He would not disclose what incentives had been offered to bring Green Lantern to NSW, but said they were based around payroll tax reductions.

The November start for principle photography is a bit later than what I was assuming.
That seems like an awfully long shoot.....The filming is expected to take six to nine months.

What does a long shoot have to do with waiting longer? The movie hasn't been delayedGood. If waiting a little longer means we'll get a great GL flick then i'm all for it. We dont want a rush job.
I'm taking this as a good sign. A nine month shoot means they clearly have something quite grand in mind...
Six to nine months sounds too long, so those numbers are either wrong or probably include some post production activities as well (special fx, etc). A 9 month shoot starting in Nov doesn't appear to leave enough time before it's scheduled release for what I would think is needed in post on such an effects laden production like this.Filming does seem a lot later than I expected. Perhaps the producers need the warm weather down in Oz in order to shoot the pic, since the director and producers did location scouting last month.
And for the 6-9 month shooting period in Australia, post-production will probably be a lot shorter than I hope for it to be. Especially since WB wants to produce it at a reasonable cost ($120-$150 million), I think they'd probably should start filming around August/September like was originally stated.
That's what Rothman wants you to think. Then he'll swoop in and repaint the sets while Martin Campbell is sleepingagain, they're just filming there. Fox has NOTHING TO DO with it.
