Marvel One-Shots

A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Hellicarrier.

Showing Hawkeye trying to get to SHIELD during the events of TWS, and EVERYTHING that can go wrong does:

-His alarm clock goes off, so he oversleeps.
-Every traffic light along the way turns red right as he gets to them.
-He gets pulled over by a cop.
-He gets a flat tire.
-Someone swipes his arrows out of the trunk of his care.
-He needs to foil some random crime/save some random people.
-Etc.

He ends up getting there just after everything has wrapped up. Oh and Natasha brags about kissing Captain America.

I'm sure budget would be the biggest obstacle to doing this but...

I would like to see Marvel expand the idea of one-shots into a bunch of short films that shows some of the minor characters doing something and package those into one feature length film.

An example would be showing what Rhodey was doing during the Chitauri invasion (on film, not just a comic no one reads) and showing Sif and the Warriors Three adventuring in some realm. Instead of bogging down a solo title film with an origin story they could include the origins in one of these short film features. These stories need not have anything to do with one another but be interesting enough and when combined be long enough to cover an appropriate length for a feature film.

There are plenty of characters in the Marvel universe that have very interesting stories and skill sets or powers but they simply can't carry their own films, so they are paired with a solo title or ignored completely. Hawkeye has been a glaring omission from phase 2 because he can't carry his own film and did not fit into anyone else's story. Why couldn't we see him with a strike team during the Hydra takeover? Maybe his team turns on him and he has to fight them in his unique way? That story can't cover 2 hours but it could certainly cover 45 minutes.

As the Marvel universe expands there will be a ton of characters introduced that will be left on the sidelines but that does not mean they are in stasis, they are doing something. Can we see that?

These short films do not have to be deep or have some big universe altering plot, they just need to be entertaining and show some of our favorite minor characters doing their thing.

That could be ridiculously awesome. I think it'd be cool if there were various story threads relating them, and a common theme, though they wouldn't all team up at all, they'd just be in each other's orbits, backgrounds on the TV, a minor team up here and there, have mutual friends. Like Crash but with the Marvel Universe's minor characters. That could be incredibly, incredibly cool.

Also think your Hawkeye pitch is cool. Would be a great 30 minute segment of the film, perhaps the 'main story' so to speak. Would also love to see spots with:
- Sif/Warriors Three/Valkyrie?
- Agents of SHIELD working with major characters
- what Banner does with his life
- Nova Prime recruiting from Earth?
- Falcon doing his thing, with and without wings
- Winter Soldier's crazy self appointed missions

sadly it doesn't look like we will get a one-shot with the GOTG BR

I'm still holding out hope that Marvel is just too busy juggling films, Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter, and the Netflix shows to devote enough time to the One-Shots and they are only on hiatus.

There seriously isn't going to be any one-shot with GotG?!?!
What the hell Marvel, not making enough billions?

I can understand though, it's quite costly without enough of a return (I mean who is not going to buy the DVDs/blu rays/downloads anyway) and they have enough on their plate as it is.

It's a shame though because it's a fun idea

It'd be kinda fun to do animated One-Shots, even if they only came out online for promotion. Everyone says that Marvel's animation seriously pales in comparison to DC's animated output anyway - could be a nice way to rejuvenate it/jumpstart some creativity in that wheelhouse. It could also help with some budget problems for ideas like doing a Damage Control One-Shot.

It was designed to encourage people to buy BluRays over DVDs. Now that people prefer BluRays, they have less of an incentive. But Marvel Studios do seem to have fun doing things, so I'm still hopeful that they'd do it for the right story.

Well if you're right it didn't work on me then, I still buy just the DVD's :p

Then you don't have the one shots. It's an extra incentive, just like how DVDs always had bonus features when VHS did not.

I've wanted to see them try animated shorts forever, even if they weren't One-Shot related, but I don't think there are a lot of free-thinkers making command decisions at Marvel Animation/TV that would give the go ahead to something like that. It would be interesting if Marvel Studios themselves tried to have something animated done.

I'm all about an animated one shot. That'd be a great way to expand the cinematic universe in another medium.

I said this in another thread, but brought back this thread for this quote...

If they ever bring back One-shots, I think thats the best way to do Peter's origin and the Death of Uncle Ben.
