Homecoming Marvel & Sony's Spider-Man (2017) General Discussion - Part 17

So my guess is that Spider-Man will appear in Civil War, a solo movie, then Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 & 2. When would the second Spider-Man film come out?

He better be in Avengers: Infinity War!

I think Feige is probably smart enough to make sure that Sony will let Marvel use Spider-Man for IW part 1 & 2 before they signed the deal; I seriously doubt Marvel can only borrow Spidey for Civil War. If he is introduced in MCU, then it must be a long-term deal, not an one-shot. Marvel could've carried on just fine without Spider-Man, and if Sony only lets him be in CW then they might as well not use him at all.

I think the leaked email said 2017 for the first and 2019 for the second, and the first one is for real so I'm assuming winter 2019, if not then 2020 is your best bet

And btw guys, about miles, the marvel press release clearly stated "Peter Parker", so don't worry it's all good. Miles will get his chance when the time is right, for now we got our boy peter

Very true. I remember the whole Infinity War thing was in LR's scoop as well. It just was not officially announced but there is no way Marvel only gets to use Spider-Man for one movie.

2019 perhaps? After IW2 events. Inhumans come out that summer. Quite possibly in 2020.

Wait, so Kevin Feigue isn't getting payed to produce the new Spider-Man movie? this is starting to sound more and more like Sony's Spider-Man in Marvel's MCU... I thought this was suppose to be a collaborative deal? Sony better not **** Spidey up again! :cmad:
Why does Sony have to be involved anyways? :cmad:

Marvel's still completely the creative powerhouse in this situation. Sony just has to say yes.

Well, I don't know about Feige not getting paid to be the producer, but remember that Marvel won't be paying Sony any money to get the rights of Spider-Man to appear in MCU, so in a way they already won. Unfortunately, Sony is still involved because under the terms of that lousy deal Marvel signed long time ago, Sony can keep the movie rights indefinitely as long they make a Spider-Man movie every 5 years, so Marvel still has to "borrow" the rights to have Webhead appear in MCU. That's the way it is.

But why the **** isn't Kevin Feigue getting payed???
I also really wish Pascal wasn't involved.

Well marvel isn't getting the gross, but if kevin Feige is doing the producer's job, wouldn't he have to get paid personally?

I think sony aren't a bad studio creatively, they just need direction. Even if Feige isn't the ringleader he still provides that direction. Sony would have learnt their lesson, that's why they're making a deal

With marvels help they won't mess up again

Spideys first appearance is in a Civil War and a heavily marvel based 2017 solo film, after that, the character will well and truely be established by marvel, Sony just have to repeat what marvel did with a character that they don't even have to make from scratch

It's going to be fine guys, Sony wants Spidey in the MCU anyway, if he's an avenger, more people see Spiderman films.

We'll be back to the Raimi days, I'm sure of it

Sony wont receive jack for Civil War or Infinity Wars, so I'm good.

Even if they do wind up doing spinoffs on their own, which I can guarantee won't happen until phase 4 if they ever do, they'd be doing it on the path that marvel set for them and the groundwork that is set up for them. They're being given 'spidey lessons' so to speak. They won't be trying to shoehorn universe-building, they're already in the MCU, no need to mimic it.

If they do 3 years in between GOTG films then part 3 would come out in 2020.

Hope the actor will be up for the job. Films Civil War this year, solo film next year, Infinity War in 2017 and if not shot back-to-back, Part 2 in 2018.

ANY young actor would accept that deal, especially if is this guy:

Feige will get his producer day rate. It never said anywhere that he won't get paid. He's still a person not Faceless Marvel Man. The deal just doesn't have the studios exchanging any money for rights to borrow characters or the studios collecting any money on the other movie's profits. Though that one article acted like there could be escalators for Marvel to make money off of Sony's solo film if box office is of a certain caliber.

I'm still not convinced that either studio has carte blanche to use any characters they want in each other's movies. If Spidey himself is quid pro quo, I imagine say Fisk and Daredevil for Norman and JJJ for instance would have to be a specifically agreed upon thing too. I don't think either can just grab characters willy nilly. As much as I want it to be true, I'm not sure until we hear otherwise or see Easter Eggs on say "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." that the floodgates are truly open. Though that very well could be the case and I'm already more than happy with what we've already heard.

We really should have like a sticky F.A.Q. thread or Facts Section as more and more information is piece-mealed out or Sherlock'd away by Detective Miles or the like.

Ugh... I'm starting to doubt Sony again.
Maybe Marvel shouldn't have agreed to this deal.

This deal basically boils down to the following: Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige are going to voluntarily help Sony relaunch the Spider-Man franchise for the second time in 13 years in exchange for Sony allowing the character to appear in the MCU.

Can Marvel use Spidey's characters?
Like for instance, could Marvel use Norman or reference Oscorp in another MCU movie?
