Born Again Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again General Discussion Thread

The Black suit wont be ready til 2027 tho if your lucky lol.

So uh...is Punisher in this season or not? Frank was, yes, but I was promised Punisher in eps 5 & 6 and....nope. Or was that info just wrong?

Based on footage in trailers and such, he def will be.

There's some inconsistencies with DD's powers that have been bugging me this season and we just witnessed another one this episode - Daredevil supposedly has all his senses super heightened up to a magical level but he often misses things that are convenient for plot purposes later:

We just got the reveal that Foggy was drinking O'Melveny that day but Matt didn't clock it... even tho he can smell someone's perfume a mile away? All this just to have the reveal..

PS: Daredevil using touch on drawings to see who Muse's next victim was made me laugh out loud. Searching for a drawing with paint relief (which is mostly imperfections and paint excess at random places) is so stupid and doesn't convey in any way the facial structure of what you draw

Well, you could say that he has his senses heightened so he smells everything. He has to be in search of something specific, he has to "aim" his senses. Otherwise it would be overbearing. I'm not sure he was in "superhero" mode during that drinking sequence in the first episode, why would he be smelling drinks? He's in a bar.

Plenty of Punisher action shown in the mid-season trailer (obviously saved for the finale next week):

You know how when you're in a crowded and very loud bar, you're able to pick out what your friend's saying but can't really hear the conversation of the table next to you unless you specifically focus on it?

Same idea, cranked to 11.

The character I want to see return for season two is Brett Mahoney. I just mentioned this in the episode 8 thread, because his absence in season one is very noticeable for someone who's followed this character since Season One of the Netflix series.

The big questions about his absence are:

  • We last saw Brett in Season Two of the Punisher. In the MCU Timeline, that was 2018. When we start season one of this series, it's 2026 when Foggy is alive and 2027 for most of it. So the question is "where has he been in the last decade or so?" Also did he attend Foggy's funeral?
  • He came from the 15th Precinct, where the guys of the Anti-Vigilante Task Force come from. How would he feel about these guys? Did he know them?
  • He's no fan of Wilson Fisk either, but he's also a law abiding cop (which is why Castle didn't let him die at the end of Season Two of the Punisher) and Fisk is the mayor. Obviously if he's still in the position that he was when we last saw him, he would have little interaction. But what if he's a precinct captain or even had been the Commissioner?
Obviously he would be disturbed by Fisk as the mayor and it would have been great if he had become Commissioner of the NYPD when this series started. My theory is that he left the NYPD a long time before the start of the series and is now a federal agent and Fisk and the Anti-Vigilante Task Force isn't a Federal issue.....at least not yet.

I would hope that Brett's absence in season one was because Royce Johnson wasn't available to return. In this series, we are introduced to Angie Kim, Gallo and Cherry, all three very much law abiding. I am liking Kim so far, but she has no history with Daredevil as Brett does. Brett being the Commissioner of the NYPD in this series would have been fun to see.

Hopefully he comes back for season two.

Bullseye's new suit from Season 2 looks awesome.

This Bullseye mask and costume is like something out of Trial of the Incredible Hulk. We already had to suffer DD's costume from there for season 1 and season 3 of Netflix DD. Just give us the black and white Bullseye costume with the rings and target on his mask. No generic balaclava.

I dm'd Royce Johnson on Instagram before the show came out, and he told me that he's gotten a lot of fan requests asking for his return but Marvel never called him.

EDIT: I really hoped that he was lying, but it looks like he was telling the truth. :(

He needs to come back though. They brought the actress back who played Josie. I understand not bringing back Stephen Rider as Blake Tower or Rosario Dawson as Claire or Elodie Yung as Elektra (I think the Cleaning Lady is still on the air), but Brett was a key player in all three seasons of the Netflix series.

It also looks like they are not finished casting for season two though, if the rumors are true that Matt is going to re-assemble the Defenders. If Kristin Ritter, Finn Jones, Mike Colter and Jessica Henwick all come back, so should Royce Johnson.

Having said that, a team of Matt Murdock, Frank Castle, Jack Duquesne, Maya Lopez and Kate Bishop would be interesting, but he hasn't met Jack or Kate and fought Maya early on and hasn't encountered her since then but they have all had their encounters with Fisk. I do think that they are going to use Kate though on more "Avengers type" storylines rather than street level stories and I would not be at all surprised if Kate is a character in Doomsday and Secret Wars. Plus his history with Luke, Danny and Jessica needs to be addressed.

It could be an impactful team though if it's Matt Murdock, Luke Cage, Daniel Rand, Jessica Jones, Colleen Wing, Frank Castle, Jack Duquesne and Maya Lopez.

Yeahhhhh I agree he should have come back. The Defenders team you mention seems to be the direction they're going but I'd rather they made Colleen Wing Iron Fist instead of Danny Rand.

They should have brought Marci & Turk back too.

Edit: I didn't know they brought back Josie's actress, that was a good catch.

Perhaps Rob Morgan was busy. I think he's coming back for the final season of Stranger Things but I could be wrong about that. And Marci might come back if somehow they bring Foggy back, which for now, I am going to credit as flashbacks as the reason Elden Hanson is coming back as Foggy for season two.

I can see Matt's team for now being Matt, Luke, Danny, Jessica and Colleen with the possibility of Misty Knight, Frank and Elektra. I don't know how he would end up meeting Jack or Maya again. Also, if Elektra does come back, would they trust her? I would think that if Elodie Yung returns as Elektra, she gets a Thunderbolts style arc where she makes up for her past as a villain.

I also want to see the Anti-Vigilante Task Force eventually have to deal with a major threat that they cannot kill. Like how would they deal with a vigilante who is no ordinary vigilante? Like said vigilante is of alien origin and their weapons pose no harm to this vigilante. What does the Task Force do? Remember they are all dirty cops who are willing to do anything to get rid of the vigilante. But what if they can't get rid of this vigilante all that easy?

Also, I would like to see how the Task Force would handle masked criminals running around New York City, such as remnants of the Hand or even HYDRA.

:funny: Trial of the Incredible Hulk aside,

I think it was more homage to Miller & Romita Jr's Man Without Fear origin.

That said, I absolutely love the all black Zorro style proto-hero suit, put together from what he had around, as well as adding the pygmachia/muay-thai style wraps. I think it looks fantastic!

As well as the recently revealed Born Again S2 all black suit with the red "D"s.
Holy Heck!

However, only so long as they are story arc-specific / transitional, Daredevil belongs and always needs to end up in RED! That is the character.

As much as I'm enjoying his inclusion, pretty sure of those you list, Duquesne has zero plot-armor, and is just there as fodder, for the Anti Vigilante Task Force to have someone to actually take out and kill, and show how far the AVTF will go. That (sadly like Ayala) is likely the only purpose he will serve.

He's called the Punisher! :cwink:
Kidding, I know what you mean.
Like said vigilante is of alien origin
Yeah I don't think this show is going there outright. Mentioning them is one thing, but having Aliens show up? Seems off their radar, I think as far-out as they go, is the martial-arts supernatural elements, they've already introduced, by way of the Hand, Rand, Elektra, etc.

I'm inclined to believe Marvel Studios just didn't bother calling Rob Morgan or Amy Rutberg for the same reason they didn't call Royce Johnson; they probably just didn't think they were worth bringing back (a horrible mistake in my opinion).

It should have Marci that Foggy was at the bar flirting with. It should have been Marci grieving over Foggy's dead body. It should have been Marci testifying against Bullseye l for killing her husband (he proposed to her in season 3, it's safe to say they'd be married now).

Turk would have been perfect in episode 4 in Leroy Bradford's place.

This is not to knock the actors who portrayed Kirsten & Leroy though, I just wanna put that out there.

And since we were just talking about Brett, it should have been him on the roof of Josie's learning about Daredevil's secret identity. Cherry's a new character, but replace him with Brett and the entire context of that scene changes.

Again, no knock against Clark Johnson - fantastic actor but if there is any cop that should be Matt/Daredevil's contact in the NYPD, it should have already and always been Brett

I don't so either, just thinking out loud. Still I wonder what the Task Force is going to do if the Hand is revived and they are proven way too powerful for the Task Force to stop, or even more, what is left of HYDRA, as I am sure that there are former HYDRA operatives out there (and not Bucky Barnes) lurking in the shadows.

Bullseye's new suit from Season 2 looks awesome.
Indeed I liked the suit from the first episode a lot so Im glad they have taken that and just added further nods to the classic suit, including the bullseye of course and stripes, but its still something grounded and realistic to what he might wear today

I rewatched seasons 1-3 before Born Again and no, he doesn't know. but this got me thinking again.

how far along during reshoots did they bring Vanessa's OG actress back? because if they had the time to reshoot those scenes, couldn't they (if they wanted to) have reshot Cherry's scenes replacing him with Brett?

I don't think those were reshot scenes, I think they were brand new. All of her scenes in episodes 2-7 are pretty minimal and she doesn't interact with many people either. Her scenes primarly are with either Fisk or the therapist. Plus her storyline deals with a lot of stuff brought up in the new pilot.

I seem to remember there were set pics prior to the revamp with the replacement Vanessa walking around with Fisk in public. Whatever that scene was, it did not make it into the revamp of the show as Vanessa never makes any public appearences with Fisk until the 8th episode. It's very much possible her storyline was completely different in the original iteration of the show.
