Marvel Studios to Adapt Runaways

K was 16, iirc.

There are talented young actors and actresses. There really are. People who were barely able to play high schoolers 4+ years ago are not eligible.

Malcolm David Kelley as Alex Wilder (A 15 year old award winner who is genre savvy)
Brenda Song as Nico Minorou (20... Asian-Americans can usually pull this off though, so they're excused. And I really can't find a more experienced female Asian-American "teen")
Dakota Fanning as Gert Yorkes (A 14 year old acting prodigy, just needs baggy clothes and a dye job)
Abigail Breslin as Molly Hayes (A 12 year old Oscar Nominee.)

... that's all I got for right now... but its just not that hard.

and brenda song would not come off as anything near nico's personality on screen.

Walt as Alex? Sounds intriguing, but I'm not so sure he's the best option.

I certainly welcome better options.

After watching MDK in interviews, and on his recent epi of lost, I think he can pull it off.

I'd like to hear more about Brenda Song playing Nico. I understand that she plays a ditzy character on Disney... I get it... but I've seen her act with a straight face and it didn't seem out of place in any way. What part of Nico's personality do you feel wouldn't come across. Keep in mind, an actor, in theory, is more than any single character they portray.

As for Dakota Fanning... I'm sorry, I realize we're used to seeing her as annoying little too-smart-for-her-own good little girl... but she's the most mature talented kid there is, and I'd much rather someone who's of appropriate age who likes playing brooding little too-smart-for-their-own-good characters to play Gert.. and she's growing up to look less... Dakota-ish.

No suggestions for Kar and Chase?

You know what the hardest part of making Runaways work is?

Old Lace. If you can make a dinosaur convincing, you win.

And anyone who says Milo for Vic is going to be struck.

I certainly welcome better options.

He's 26, but he still can pull off his late teens. He's Alex. I can feel it in my bones.

Alex isn't late teens though. He's mid-teens.

If we can skew the ages of the kids to ensure that people who played high schoolers five years ago can still play them, then there are tons of 20-26 year old actors who could work. Just bring up your favorite high school shows of the early 2000s and pick your faves. There were tons of them.

Rent was fine, nothing spectacular, but nothing horrible either. Chris did a fine job with harry potter. Though he might be a bit too light hearted or whimsical for runaways. Runaways has a great chance to be a cult classic family film, like goonies

What's this? Is that legit?

Yeah I think that Marvel is sandwiching this in between their Thor and Captain America time frame. Strange that there is no word on directors for this yet.

Latest news I can find is the blurb from the MTV site which confirms:

Director: Peter Sollett
Writer: Drew Pearce
Filming dates: Jan 2011 - July 2011

link

One would think if they are still planning to meet those dates we should be hearing something soon.

I'm pretty unfamiliar with actors in the age range that this movie would require. I do hope that they skew a bit young because I hate it when they try to pass off someone who is obviously in their mid-20's as a teen.
