Indeed.^That post summs things up,but if one absolutely had to admit a 3.Perhaps the only hero that would be universally be accepted would be Captian America.

Specify. Are you talking worldwide?

We have yet to see Captain America generate a billion and a half dollars in worldwide box office revenue, unlike a certain web-slinger.

Yeah, I'm gonna throw in my vote with most of the others. Big 3 in popularity = Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Hulk. Big 3 in the Avengers = Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man.

Here's a related question: what would be Marvel's Avengers equivalent to the JLA's big 7? Morrison relaunched JLA with what's become known as the be-all and end-all of JLA rosters: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Flash, Green Lantern, and the Martian Manhunter. Whom would he have to choose if he wanted to ignite the same passion in the Avengers' fans? I'd say Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Wasp, and Hawkeye. They, more than anyone else, are the people who pop into my mind when I think of the Avengers cut down to their seven most important members over the years.

I would've put Quicksilver

as for Marvel's Big Three = Captain America, Spiderman and Thor.

Capt, is the most respected hero
Spidey, is the flagship of Marvel
Thor, IMO is one of the most popular, and at the same time powerful, heros that Marvel has

I'd agree with that, but maybe replace Wasp with Quicksliver.

Thor?

Thor?

Thor?

Wow....You mention Thor before Wolverine, Hulk, Daredevil, the F4....thats a bit...weird.

Yeah, I'm a big Thor fan and I have to say, he's really not that popular. His comic was relatively successful and actually sold better than Cap's and Iron Man's before the former was canceled and the latter two were relaunched, but in terms of character recognition Thor's probably way down the list.

True but when you think of the Avengers he's right up there.

Could be worse however, he could be overused like a certain X-man.

True, but even the Avengers aren't really that well known. The name's only skyrocketed to popularity in the wake of The Ultimates and New Avengers.

Thats also true I guess.

On another subject, has it been reported if Thor will join one of the Avenger teams post-Civil War?

Well Spiderman is Marvel's biggest ever character in terms of popularity, sales and diversity, am i correct in thinking he starred in the first marvel/DC crossover, Superman V Spiderman?

Captain america is another classic character from marvel who people always associate marvel with first.

As for a third character, Hulk is really popular, TV series, Films, games etc, whereas Thor has had limited tv exposure(avengers cartoon springs to mind as only example). Also Ironman has yet to grace the big screen. Wolverine, by most people(not the wonderfully well read memers of this forum however:)) is considered as a part of the X-men, and many people don't think of him on his own.

So SPIDEY, CAP, and HULK would be my big three, not my fav's though!

As for a 7 team line-up:

Cap,
Thor,
Ironman
Hawkeye
Scarlet witch
vision
quicksilver

although I could think of a mcuh cooler team of marvel hero's i'd like to see!

Big Three for recognition- Spiderman, Captian America, and Hulk

For popularity- Spiderman, Wolverine, and HUlk

Why is that weird, i mean alot of people like thor.
Besides thor i probably would've picked Hulk or ironman, but i like Thor alittle better.

Wendigo/Sasquatch/Beast

Hair sells.

Iron Man has taken center stage for a reason in the books. The Iron Man movie is beyond HUGE for Marvel because it's their first solo venture as a newly independent movie studio. They need the character to be as high profile as possible over the next few years.

I know everyones gonna hate me, but I never liked Ironman, I like tony stark, but don't like his ironman persona, the whole suit and everything, just seemed boring to me. Although still looking forward to the movie! Thor was always my fav avenger,

DC's big three are also its most popular so its a difficult comparison.

to make it even in a power score it'd be..

superman - Thor/Sentry

batman - Captain America

wonder woman - she-hulk

but as a popularity thing would go i'd say..

spider-man,wolverine and Hulk.

but as a team big three go (avengers VS JLA)

its

captain america
thor
iron man

these are the big three of the avengers as compared to bats, supes and wonder woman of the JLA.

on a personal level though my favourites are..

captain britain
union jack
spiderman/wolverine.

I would say Spider-man, Wolverine, Captain America

I've always found DC's Big Three a bit weak in its third member: Wonder Woman. In terms of popularity, popular knowledge of her world, etc., she's not even in the same galaxy as Superman and Batman. Really, who is her Lex Luthor/Joker? What's Wonder Woman's version of "The Dark Knight Returns" or "[Insert any number of popular Superman stories]"? She has iconic value, in that most people recognize who she is, but try to go any deeper than that (ie, ask people about her origin story, or who her rogues gallery consists of) and I suspect most people will come up pretty short.

Now, concerning Marvel's Big Three, it depends on what context you're talking about.

If it's "Most Popular With Readers": Spider-Man, Wolverine, and [the third space could be filled by any number of characters, including the other X-Men collectively].

If it's "Most Respected Within the Marvel Universe": Captain America, Iron Man, Mister Fantastic.
