Why is Pimp my Ride X's showcase of acting ability???
There was another actor from a joke of a tv show with almost zero acting experience that made it big too.....Jim Carey, Jamie Foxx, Tom Hanks

It's not, but the show does make the man ****ing clown shoes. Maybe the guys from Queer Eye for the Straight guy can act too, but I don't want them showing up for an X-Force movie. Jim Carey had to do alot to become a legit actor and I still know a ton of people that think he's a joke, if Jamie Fox hadn't done Ray and if he wasn't already a classically trained pianist I doubt anyone would consider him a great actor, Tom Hanks had to pay his dues also. Now to X, he's done a joke of a TV show and apparently has one movie that shows him as a decent actor (haven't seen it yet), I'm not sure he's proven hollywood gold yet, but maybe I'm just not as optimistic as you.

Sweet holy god there's a lot of Xzibit love here, and I have no idea why? One of you die hard can't wait to see X staring as leading man people has to explain this to me.

Personally, I think his musc is pretty enjoyable and isnt bad at all. Shame he doesnt get much recognition for it though.

Well he's registered and works for the Initiative.

from a superbly trained refugee hell-bent on revenge to a government black-ops agent?

I think my judgment still stands...:cwink:

X has more than one movie that shows him as a decnet actor. He was good in Gridiron Gang.
Maybe I am optimistic or maybe im not that quick to dismiss someone because they rap.
What if someone looked at Jaime Fox and decided they didnt want him for Ray because he was a comedian????
Rappers should get their chance just like everyone else who steps out of their field

You can't put everybody in the same basket. Some signer definitely needs acting skills but others are doing very well: Will Smith, Common,Wallberg, Xzibit, 50 cent (is so so), LL COOL J (is ok), Mos def, even Eminem did well. Beside they all sign and make videos so they did have some practice :woot:.

you do realize all those "actors" did was play themselves for the most part right? Try sticking them in a genre where they don't play a "thug" or "gangsta".

and i personally don't count Will Smith, his acting career of fresh prince started not long after he made it big in the music department either. So he's been a double threat nearly since his beginning. And like someone posted before, no one considered Wallberg much of a rapper...

out of that lis.. Most Def and LL are probably the only decent actors... and can play outside of there races (or cultures) stereotype.

Mos Def has been acting longer than he's been rapping. He's in a whole different category, really.

The New Mutant Karma was from Thailand or Vietnam

bengal is Vietnamese aint he?...I think Siloutte/Midnight's fire have some Vietnamese in them, and not sure but smiling tiger may be.

Common can't act well but if he's played a "thug" or "gangsta" in movies then that's not playing himself. He doesn't present himself that way in his music. The same with Xzibit and Eminem. Who the heck considers Eminem a gangsta?

The Fresh Prince of Bel aire came on in 1990, Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jef have been rapping since 1985 hardly "not long".
And how was X a gangsta in Gridiron Gang?????

I passed on the Gridiron gang, a friend told me it was craptacular.

I wasn't dismissing him because he can rap, though not too well, I was dismissing him because his show makes him clown shoes and he hasn't acted enough to warrant star billing in a stand alone movie. If he does some more work and shows he actually has something then maybe he can do a leading role but right now what are we talking two supporting actor parts? Sorry.

Jamie Fox was a very different case. A comedian, yes, but also an incredibly talented musician (considerably more than X) who was one of the few that could play Ray and actually play like Ray. Fox also had to be in many movies with bit parts before anyone trusted he could actually act. Here look:

Year Title Role Notes
1992 Toys Baker
1996 The Truth About Cats & Dogs Ed
The Great White Hype Hassan El Ruk'n
1997 Booty Call Bunz
The Players Club Blue
1999 Held Up Michael
Any Given Sunday Willie Beamen
2000 Bait Alvin Sanders
2001 Date from Hell
Ali Drew 'Bundini' Brown
2003 Shade Larry Jennings
2004 Breakin' All the Rules Quincy Watson
Collateral Max Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor nominee
Ray Ray Charles Academy Award for Best Actor
Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story Tookie
2005 Stealth Lt. Henry Purcell
Jarhead Staff Sgt. Sykes
2006 Miami Vice Ricardo Tubbs
Dreamgirls Curtis Taylor, Jr.
2007 The Kingdom Ronald Fleury
2008 The Soloist Nathaniel Ayers post-production

Any Given Sunday being his first partal leading role. It wasn't like he went from stand up to oscar nomination.

I'm not saying rappers shouldn't get a chance but it seems like you think they should be placed above actual actors because of some music experience. I would say there's about the same percentage of actors who would make legitimate musicans as there are musicians who could act well. And that's about 1%.

PS: X was by far the crappiest part of the Up in Smoke Tour.
