Common can't act well but if he's played a "thug" or "gangsta" in movies then that's not playing himself. He doesn't present himself that way in his music. The same with Xzibit and Eminem. Who the heck considers Eminem a gangsta?

same crap dif names:o

The Fresh Prince of Bel aire came on in 1990, Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jef have been rapping since 1985 hardly "not long".
And how was X a gangsta in Gridiron Gang?????

in terms of his career... 5 years is not long

eh, I liked him in the role. When I reread the book the charcter is now him in my mind. He seems to personify that spaciness the makes Ford interesting. And Rickman's voice for Marvin was pretty brilliant.

who the hell wants X for Cage anyway? totally wrong for the part in a bunch of ways

Actually the original thought was how great he'd be for a stand alone bishop movie, if you can believe that. Cause there's nothing like a relatively unproven actor in an incredibly complex story featuring a character with zero mainstream recognition to bring in the crowds.

Rappers should get their chance just like everyone else who steps out of their field
Totally agree look at Ludachris with his roles in "Hustle and Flow" and in "Crash." The guy did an excellent job in both. Also most of those who rap aren't thugs. That's just a role for them to play like any other. Those guys aint shooting up the streets or slinging rock for real. It's all a role just to sell records, and if they can play that role they sure as hell can play an obscure X-men character. Also most big name Actors dont want to take roles like this, because they think it's beneath them. So if they dont want to take it and someone who raps and has the acting ability does, then they should get the role.Again the best man for the job, but if he doesnt want it then some one else who does and can act should get it.
...And man when did Will Smith become the black Robert DeNiro? I cant stand that guy and never want him to play any Marvel or DC Superhero. You can call me Hatin but I cant stand that dude. He names always comes up as playing Luke Cage.Yeah I could see squeeky clean ass Will Smith with a tiara and yellow shirt, or bald ass head and baggy jeans playing Luke! come one!

I really wish fewer rappers would play the thug role in their music. You can still rap well without talking about bustin' caps and all your b****es and ice. Mos Def's been doing it for years.

Cube is not a bad actor either. His stuff in Three Kings and Barbershop was really good.

Three kings was a great movie. Possibly the best Iraq war/occupation movie I've ever seen, most of the lastest ones just drown in pretentiousness and condesention.

Maybe it's because Three Kings was about Desert Storm rather than Dubya's Iraq War.

Doesn't really matter, you could make almost the exact same movie today with just a few minor changes and it wouldn't be any different. Three kings was great cause it was nothing but morally gray areas, and that's what Iraq or really military service is all about. (before anyone jumps on my back I joined up when I became a legal US citizen, so shut it)

The last Iraq movie I saw do to my girlfriends netflix was something with this night in shining armor jake gyllenhal trying desperately to make a difference in an apathetic system. I've seen family circus cartoons with more depth and genuine characterization than that sleep fest.

I don't mind a movie making a point but I don't need to be beaten over the head with it and I do expect to be at least slightly entertained when I watch a movie. Three kings did this well, recent movies not so much.

You wont catch BlackVulcan jumping on you Moral. I respect anybody who would join regardless of what side of the fence you are on. I spent 6 and half years in the Military myself ,till i found out it wasn't for me.so i give you props man. even if you don't want a Fishtank where your air bag is suppose to go.:cwink: hehe
carry on

.... and Cube is a pretty good actor too.Only now he's starting to do all these family comedies, like Eddie Murphy. Bleh

Thanks, man. Cube has been shifting to some kiddie stuff I agree but it's just him paying his acting dues. I've got a lot of respect for him, he's a talented artist and actor and seems a hell of a lot more real and unscripted then a lot of the people following in his footsteps. Some of his movies might be more aimed at kids and familys now but I can't see too much of a negative by having a black guy do some of those movies for a change, kinda bridges a gap in my mind.

Friday was hilarious. I was kind of disappointed to see him make it all franchisey with a bunch of sequels.

Cube is the same in every movie. He doesn't sound like he's reading lines or anything but to call him a great actor is a bit much.

Common seems to be doing it too.

Yeah, but I like Mos Def more so I used him as my example. I do like the Common, though.

totally agree as long as they are funny family comedies!not that suckitutde stuff like Murphy's meet Dave. On the same side X is just paying his dues with that stupid pimp my ride show. I dont even listen to X as a Rapper( I'm strictly RUNDMC Ole school falvor).A black hero has to find work where he can, and if the brother can act and fits the bill and no other Shakespearian actor wants the role. I think he should get his shot. I don't think Bishop should ever have a solo movie deal anyway( but thats just me).The guy just aint never been that big deal of a character to me, but if it's in a group shot and X prove he can do the work. Then i am all for it. i think the dude has earned that spot after installing all those plasma dispays.
just my 2 cents the rest i used for bus fare over here.

Mos Def stole the show on Hitchhiker's Guide dude.
I liked him in that, but I thought the other actors all did really well too. Zoe Deschanel and Bill Nighy were my favorites, I think.

I'm looking forward to Mos Def in Be Kind, Rewind. It's on my Netflix list.

Actually if the X-Men puts out a few more things I could see a bishop as the cop of mutant town thing being an interesting concept that could translate well. The main problem is his backstory would be too confusing and a turn off for most of the mainstream audience. Personally I like bishop a lot but if they do a movie with him I want it to not suck. It would be a hard role to fill and the only actor I can think of off the top of my head would be Michael Jai White who's more a martial artist than an actor but for looks and voice he'd be much closer to bishop in my mind.
