Marvel's Black & Minority Characters: Roundtable Discussion

I must disagree regarding the Blue Marvel mini for a few reasons.

First, it loses all point and is pretty pathetic storytelling when you have an amazing superpowerful character more powerful than everyone, and then a little later introduce someone who is so superful amazing more powerful than anyone who beats the last guy. What does that honestly accomplish other than steal the thunder of the first guy? Ie. They've been establishing over and over that Sentry is as poweful as it gets, but suddenly a new guy, a flash-in-the-pan obviously, shows up, and just to try and get him a little buzz they decide he'll knock Sentry around. A pathetic attempt, and one that I'm glad failed.

Second, as far as having the alienated black superhero from the past, it was done better in a DC superhero series (can't recall the title offhand unfortunately) just a couple years ago.

The whole blue marvel mini was just a bunch of rehashed ideas. Worse yet, they were ideas that had just recently been done anyway, and done better.

*my two cents :)

Aw, you're just mad because the Blue Marvel copied the Sentry's schtick without being crazy and useless about 75% of the time. :oldrazz:

No they haven't. He never fights anybody, for one thing. Except for that fight with the Hulk, which was inconclusive. He may be really powerful but he in no way has a monopoly on being that.

Hehe Random considering that your avatar is the sentry. It wouldn't havent anything to do with your boy getting punched into space now would it?

hehe but i aint madatcha:cwink:

Oh yeaa....from what I read, Blue Marvel does remind me of Silver Sentry from TMNT 2k3. About SS, I thought it was pretty cool that the hero of Mikey's obsession was black and high profile. What I mean is that it wasn't just the typical team dynamic that mirrors various groups and one of the members was black. The head honcho, the superman, of that was black and that put a smile on my face. :)

I didn't even know Sentry was still around....is he still a junkie??
nope at least i havent seem him in any comic i read. he's one of Osbourne's Dark Avengers and for having the power of a "million exploding suns" he usually have something incapacitate his ass within the 1st few pages of a book hehe... sorry Random

Hell yeah SS on TNMT was too cool like i said before i was hoping he would get his own show

I liked it because it wasn't even a big deal. He was black and no one cared, which is how it ought to be, in my opinion. A hero's a hero, black, white, or green (yeah, I'm talking about the Martian Manhunter 'cause he's the ultimate minority :oldrazz:).

i totally agree with that. it's whats made SS cool! Mike was like he's the greatest hero not the greatest "black" hero around. which brings up both Dc and marvel having to use Black in front of a cat's name. Like the henchmen were like" thank god they put "Black" in front of Goliath or otherwise i would have never known..... hmmmm remind me of somebody else i know, threw lightning.... well it will come back to me eventually

To Marvel's credit, they've been calling Bill Foster simply "Goliath" since his death. Granted, he's still dead. And Osborn just stole one of his bones in Mighty Avengers. :csad:

Tom Foster is just Goliath, as well.

yeah but corp it was the Thing who commented on why do you call yourself "BlackGoliath" way back in marvel two in one( thats why i love the thing) "it obvious you're black and Goliath to my knowledge was a bad guy!" he then went on to call himself Giantman then back just to Goliath( why do dudes who grow big have a time with different codenames??) again just to get killed:cmad:like they couldnt have killed off Sentry!:cwink: i kid random i kid!

^ hmmm i just get called "Mr. big stuff "when i grow big, but that's by women... hehe sorry that was just too good to pass up :cwink:

i thought it had to do with their brains not growing with the rest of em and they cant remember it. so they are like "feel the wraith of Golitah!.. no atlas no! or is it Maul?? those pym particles must play havoc with your senses. man forget taking that stuff!

Totally, there shouldn't be a racial emphasis "Sunfire sir, you're the greatest ASIAN hero I've ever met!"

It's just like Harvey Birdman "Why do I have to be BLACK Vulcan? Why don't we just call you WHITE fish?!" :applaud I love that show.

On Pym particles: There seriously needs to be some sort of disclaimer or an after school special attached.

A hero's a hero, black, white, or green

It aint easy being green. :(

love some Sunfire!
a friend of mine who's Asian ask me to name one hero who's Asian and dont know martial arts! for the life of me i couldn't do it. he was like every Asian cat has some karate, kung fu shtick going on with em. he was like that's bull*&^%$# man! that's like every brother knowing how to play basket ball.i told him he was totally right. then he brought up "quick-kick from Gi-Joe and said the dude was running around with no shoes on when everybody else has clothes. that was outta line.

Asians are martial artists, blacks are streetwise and native americans are magical. Those are the rules.

Latinos all have the power of invisibility.

Hahahahaha thanks Rock
i must've misplace my rule book somewhere( looks thru coat pockets)
invisibility!!!!! Hahahahaha

It's kind of sad that I can't think of many exceptions to those, and certainly not any major heroes. Except the latino one, since Jaime Reyes stays visible at all times.

no doubt.

Does Dr light count as asian w/o kung fu?
