Mass Effect 3

I don't know about the second one, seemed fine to me. I'm mainly referencing the first game, where the male voice acting was pretty mediocre. I started out with the default Shepard, but went with the female Shepard to see if the voice acting was better, and it was; never looked back at all.

A far as the first game yes I'd agree Hale was better than Meer, there were some lines that on recent replays were just difficult to get through.

The general consensus is that Meer stepped up his game for the second and it really shows, Meer does a lot of comedic work and he injected his Shepard with a lot more of belligerent snark than before that really paid off but it wasn't just the comedy. He was better all-around. Look at his voice work during Tali's mission for example.

I thought Hale's perfomance in ME1 was much sharper than what she did in ME2 but that's just me obviously.

Well, I couldn't say on Meer, I didn't really bother with doing a male Shepard in ME2, just stuck with my import character. Hale seemed about the same to me, honestly. I didn't play them back-to-back to compare or anything, though, and hadn't played the first in awhile.

I doubt I buy the anime. I didn't like any of the Dead Space stuff and the Halo stuff was horrid... I guess it being a BioWare property would make it better... but still...

Its cool, I'm not trying to change your opinion or anything - just explaining my position moreso.

I hope the Mass Effect anime isn't about Shepard. The ME universe is large enough to tell more stories not revolving around Shepard.

There are already several stories in other media that doesn't have Shepard as the main character. I'm sure there's a good chance it won't be about Shepard.

Well, except the voice part, that's just some cold facts :o

I just never, ever play as the "female" versions of characters as they never seem to be canon anyway. I'm pretty sure in at least one of the Mass Effect books (which are canon) Shepard is mentioned and is a "he".

I never customize my characters either, I always use default box art characters.

Yeah if I see Shepard in the film I'm going to get angry. :cmad:

They've been really careful to avoid stuff like that.

Yeah, the books and the comics are proof that you can make several interesting stories not about Shepard.

I know, which is what kind of struck me when I read it. I honestly don't care... if a male Shepard is canon.. why would that bother those that roled a female? Who cares in the end, play whatever sex you want.

It was like I said though, the most interesting part of Arrival was the stuff involving the Batarians and Alliance's political manueverings. Its just a testament to how the ME universe has really grown past the need for a REAPER threat to provide a basis for interesting stories and why I'm already excited to see what happens past ME3.

According to the Shadow Broker, Garrus is so badass that Shepard is holding him back. So yeah, Garrus really does need his own game.

I really hope we get more Shepard/Garrus buddy moments. The interplay between them was some of my favorite bits of the game, the sense of friendship they managed to portray between the two was some great writing.

Yeah, I really love doing the Garrus loyalty mission. I even let him

kill that traitor.

As for whether Shepard is male or female, the way I see it is that since the default Shepard is male and a male Shapard is on the game cover, promo poster, and everything pertaining to the game, then he is in fact male. And if they ever make a movie based on Mass Effect, you can bet that they'll be casting a male actor for Shepard as well.

I just like how much of a mentor Shepard is to Garrus. Shepard had a huge influence on Garrus, and I like that it shows between the interactions between Shepard and Garrus.

Please, marketing!Shepherd is just for marketing. In media, and especially games, there is still a prevailing issue over how women characters are sidelined, of course they are going to have marketing Shepherd be male.

But the entire freaking point of the series is "choose your own playthrough" and people are arguing over what is canon and what is not? Despite the fact that even the extended universe stuff just refer to him/her as "Shepherd" to avoid that issue?

There is no canon Shepherd.

lol people who want a set Shepard to be a representation of the character in the games just don't understand the concept of the games hahah.

Just investigating a bit further looks like the preview is going to be 12 PAGES...

:D

I agree. That's my argument with the proposed live action project as well.
theres a proposed live project? Playing through ME 1 and 2, I REALLY wanted to see this series adapted into a tv show, whther its live action or CGI. The writing and storytelling lends itself to one quite well.

Im opposite. I thought she sounded way too butch and cold with her delivery in the first game. She was much better in the second
