Mass Effect

But the biggest question would be what kind of plot the movie would be. Follow the games? Then you would have a lot of disappointed fans that won't be able to see "their" Shepard on the big screen. And by doing a movie based on the games then they are confirming that there is a "canon" story to the games. I'm not sure I would want to have a "canon" way of the story.
But I would still like to see a movie set in the ME universe, perhaps with different characters.

Really they should just focus on capturing the spirit of the games. Having the same basic species, and overall plot. But it's an adaption, so you have to be flexible.

Perhaps the movie plot can be centered around a young aspiring Conrad Verner trying to do his part for humanity? Together with his hanar and elcor side-kicks they can try to stop the reapers and prove himself a bigger hero than commander Shepard.

the games are just great stories... have a trilogy of movies. ME1 could end with a cliffhanger by using the beginning of ME2.

I never cared for Mass Effect 2's opening. It would make a lot more sense for the Normandy to be destroyed near the end of the first game / movie. So I would be all for that.

I love the opening to 2. WHen you walk into the CIC looking out into space through the hole in the ceiling is just breath-taking. But I guess that could as easily fit in at the end of the first as well.

Well I meant that it starts with the Normandy being destroyed. That seemed rather abrupt, at least for a resurrection story. And then having Shepard becoming the Six Million Dollar Man.

I thought it somehow set the tone for the rest of the game, showing that stuff is more serious from now on. But it would have worked just as well for SHepard to die at the end of ME1.

Casey Hudson has already confirmed that the movie will follow the first game.

Which is a pretty big disappointment and a missed opportunity. I've said it ad nauseum, and I'll say it one more time: The Mass Effect universe is incredibly vast and rich. So much so that there could be several movies that could live and breath on their own without ever touching the plot of the games.

Agree to disagree. I really like the plot of the first film, and I'm pretty excited to see that on the big screen.

While true (I think KOTOR is the best SW story thus far for example), fans have grown accustomed to these characters and certainly the appeal of seeing them and the beloved story come to life is worth catering to.

It's not even (completely) about the fans, it's about reaching the largest audience possible.

Chris Hemsworth would make a good Shep :ninja:

Its been confirmed that the Mass Effect movie will not follow the story in the games. But I am sure it will use elements from the game universe.

Well, it's been confirmed to be following the games... so... this is awkward.

Well the article I read about the movie was on ign Iike 3 months ago that said the movie wasn't following the story in the games. Unless there has been some new info released since then that I don't know about.

He looks great for the male Shep.

I myself have been playing as female Shep and only female Shep since the first game and because of that I just... have no interest in the possible movies.

I will probably watch them... but I just can't worth up the same enthusiasm that I should have for being such a fanatic for the games.

I have isolated the problem, Shepard. *in EDI's voice*

the movies are def based on shepard.

You could cast anybody as Shepard because of the nature of the character.

It's absolutely INSANE that they are basing the movie around the games when they have a world that they can fill with a new story. And if they didn't want to do that, there are even 3 books which are way more suited to the silver screen than the games are.

Instead they're gonna compress an epic story into around 2 hours? Probably less to increase a chance of profits? So much stupid. One of the few movies I hope gets stuck in development hell even though I'd love to see the Mass Effect universe brought to life.

i think to start, the first movie should be based on me1. then go from there. kind of like the dexter series, book 1 and season 1 are related, but the rest is on its own path
