Math problem help-please

well, it depends how high of an ACT score he's going for and if the math score matters all that much to what he's going into

well for one thing if he does poorly on the math section the college he chooses will probaly put him in remedial math courses especially when you take the college entrance exam.

which brings me to why do we have to take several test to get into college? we have the SAT/ACT then we still need to take the entrance exam? sort of moot.

I'm actually going to be deciding on a career goal in the next few days, but do you know what's passing? I know you get a score from one to 36, but on the practice it graded me with a percentage, and I got 56% of the answers correct. It wasn't just math, it was a practice version of the whole ACT. Do you know what percentage is passing?

I think so, but I'm not sure. I was gonna test myself by giving myself a problem to solve, but I'm afraid that by doing that I might be cheating even if I don't realize it. Could you give me a problem like that to try and solve and tell me if I get it correct?

by the way i really appreciate your taking the time to do this.

(3xz - 15z)
(xsquared + 163x)
(-5xy - 10xyz)

Also, if you cannot distribute and or FOIL, you need to drop this right now and go learn those two things.

In other words, if you can't do this: (2x + 3y)(4x - 3y) ..then you be in trouble.

Is that 3 seperate problems?

Is that 8x? or 8x-9y?

Yes

Is that 8x?

Seriously, I want to help you; but you are guessing at this point.

If you cannot tell me what FOIL means, then you need to pack up your books, take a break, and first thing tomorrow.. GO GET A TUTOR.

Really, if you can't FOIL and/or distribute, we would be here all night trying to teach you.

Sorry,kid. Keep at it, though.

i'm so proud i got that right- i haven't done maths in 2 years- not algebra anyway- i loved algebra it was so easy

3(1x-5z)
No!

x(2+163) I think I'm especially confused on this one, if not all of them.
Heck, no!

5xy(-1-2z)

EDIT: You got that one.. I was just on a roll telling you "no." GOOD JOB!

You are GUESSING. You CANNOT guess when it comes to factoring. You either know, or you don't know.

Edit: You need to learn how to distribute and FOIL.

please check back here in 2 mintues. I checked the encyclopidia to see if it seemed familliar, and at first it didn't but now it does, and I think I'm getting like a new understanding of what you've been teaching me.

Give me a minute and I will show you.

I'm sorry. I really wasn't guessing. Just so you know I'm not abusing your time I'll explain why I though the first one was what it was.

I thought that I was supposed to do it like so. since 3 was the highest common factor I thought it should go into the three one time and the 15 five times and I thought the x's and z's cancelled out each other. But I still don't know what I'm doing I guess. I apologize, because I know I'm probably frustrating you.

1. you haven't included the z in the first half of your sum
its
3z(x-5)
and when you write 1x its just x.

2. x squared is not the same as 2x as you have done in your sum. its x squared because there are 2 of them
x(x+163)

3.i think the last one is right!

it helps if you can multiply them out to check your work. if you multiply out a factorised equation you should get what you started with

guys theres no need to insult him- he came here asking for help! not a verbal dressing down

i hope i got them right it would be so embarrassing if i didn't eek

Distribute these:

2x(4y + 5z)
3xz(3y - 4)

FOIL these:
(2x + 3y)(4y - 3x)
(10z - 5x)(2x - 4z)

No apology needed.

Good luck.

it was a joke i wouldn't help you cheat- its just that JStorm is on a power trip methinks

8xy+10xz I hope...
Correct!! Do not hope.. KNOW!

9yxz-12xz
Correct!!

just a minute

Take your time. FOIL = First Outer Inner Last

or the smilie method

eyebrows, nose, mouth- that probably just confused you
