In all my years of scowering the internet for obscure film information, I don't recall that I've never heard of, let alone seen, any deleted scenes from The Matrix trilogy.

I've heard that there simply are none, because the Wachowskis plan everything down to the last detail and never end up with any excess material. But I've also heard there are some action beats cut from the first movie. And there simply must be something cut out, right?

I don't really buy that. The Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions just seem so...incomplete to me. Like gaps of the movie are missing. There must be something on the cutting room floor.

I agree, there has to be some deleted scenes. But I can picture the Wachowski's [SP?] as directors who would not let people see scenes that they purposely cut out of their films [or at least with the Matrix trilogy].

in this age of interenet wouldnt there be people who would say tha ttehy saw deleted sceenes?

until now i heard everytime that they plan everything. they dont delete scenes.

I've heard of a few deleted scenes.

I read a early draft of the script but I dunno what was shot and what wasn't.

Not sure about the sequels but James McTiegue has said there are no deleted scenes at all for the first film.

on youtube is a previz video from the neo vs. 100 smiths. it is different. but i think what they filmed was in the movie.

While on the topic, here is an interesting fact about The Matrix.

In the early drafts of The Matrix, Cypher was written as a character who was removed from the Matrix by Morpheus under the impression that he was "The One". It could explain some of Cypher's disdain for Morpheus and Neo.

I think what's more interesting is their original casting choices...Will Smith for Neo and Russel Crowe for Morpheus.

I've heard Val Kilmer and Sean Connery turned down Morpheus, and the Wachowkis first choice for Neo was Johnny 'Let's cast him for every single role' Depp.

There probably are a couple of unused shots here and there but nothing that the Wachowskis would consider important to release, I guess.

In all fairness, though...when the Matrix originally began development, he was Johnny "Let's cast him for every cult movie that college stoners will watch in coffee shops at 3 am" Depp, considering The Matrix started out as this before gaining steam, it would've been a good fit :cwink:

Also, isn't the idea of a black Neo (Will Smith) and a white Morpheus (Connery or Kilmer) odd? Considering Neo serves in such a messiah-type role and the traditional conception of Jesus is white and Morpheus' role is almost similar to that of a weird hybrid of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X.. It is odd to think of their races being reversed.

in all fairness, if he had been Neo, this would have been before all the "woo-hoo johnny blah blah" hype.

I once (before the sequels) read a rumour he was still alive because they are one short of body bags on the floor of the Nebuchadnezzar at the end of the film.

Cypher

  1. The mathematical symbol (0) denoting absence of quantity; zero.
  2. An Arabic numeral or figure; a number.
  3. One having no influence or value; a nonentity.
  4. A cryptographic system in which units of plain text of regular length, usually letters, are arbitrarily transposed or substituted according to a predetermined code.
  5. The key to such a system.
  6. A message written or transmitted in such a system.
  7. A design combining or interweaving letters or initials; a monogram.
Cypher, lucifer, the devil. The number of the beast = 666. Agent Smith - Hello Mr. Reagan. Ronald Reagan, President of the United States. Cypher - and I want to be important, like an actor. Ronald Reagan was an actor. Ronald Wilson Reagan, number of letters in each name = 6.

He was a really interesting character. That would have been good if it was alluded to that Murphus thought he was The One. I heard about a draft where Neo discusses with Apoc, Apoc writing the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse virus.

I knew they could not afford to previz a human chain of Smiths that followed Neo into the sky for Reloaded. I heard that WB refused to show when Smith takes over the Oracle, having a vision of beating Neo up. I think that would have made the end of Revolutions better when Smith is all - wait, I've seen this.

I'm not aware of any deleted scenes anywhere.

I heard that Will Smith was their first choice, if true, I guess it wasn't wierd to the Wachowskis. Whenever I watch the Matrix and their is that great introduction of Morpheus, I always shudder and thank God that's not Val Kilmer.

My sarcasm is clearly confusing. Sorry. I just added that joke because of how he's seen today, rather than anything to do with the context of the thread.

Strangely, I could imagine Russel Crowe as Morpheus and would be interested in how that goes

the wachowskys are god... they dont make deleted stuff...

With the way they were filmed (the sequels), it looked like there was no room for anything that wasn't going to be in the end product. So maybe that's why there is no deleted scene but yet a feeling like the movies are not everything they could be.

There had to be some material left of the cutting board. The Wachowski's may not have produced any final material to go into the movies but that's not to say that there isn't anything in the script that didn't appear, or if there were abandoned storyboards, previz stuff that didn't work out etc etc etc.

I'm sure WB will dig it up one day for that special ultra deluxe collector's edition of the trilogy.

Matrix Reloaded : Neo fighting the Twins

Matrix Revolutions : Neo finishing the Twins

Thats the ONLY two scene's I've ever read about being cut:wow:
