Who do you think should be the next Batman director?

I remember those rumors but don't believe anyone else came in and rewrote it.

Well, it's not always reported when someone comes in to do uncredited rewrites.

For example, Shane Black wrote some dialogue on the first Iron Man, and we only found out years later thanks to interviews with Jon Favreau and Robert Downey jr.

Anyway, Matt Reeves would be a great choice for the new Batman movie. Same with Tim Miller (I'll watch anything he does after Deadpool) and George Miller.

Darren Aronofsky and David Fincher would be great choices, as well.

Still, I'm disappointed that Ben Affleck won't direct The Batman, as that was my main source of excitement for a new solo movie of the Dark Knight.

Now that we've had a week to let it all sink in, I'm actually relieved he stepped down. The guy was clearly overworked and overwhelmed, and it's ultimately for the best that he realized this now instead of midway through production. Especially for those of us that would actually like him to stick around in the role for a while.

Affleck's a strong director, but he is hardly the only one out there that can deliver a solid Batman film. At the end of the day, we need a director who genuinely wants to make this film. If Affleck decided he's not that guy, then go out there and find the person who is.

Affleck seemed pretty excited about directing the movie until a couple of weeks ago. Smells fishy to me.

I don't think I'd be able to handle The Batman being a failure if Ben directed

That one would've hurt bad. Probably more so than BvS.

I never thought he was the best guy for the job anyway.

I wanted to believe. I wanted nothing more than to believe.

Just wish he stepped down before he started filming Dawn of Justice. He could've saved himself a lot of trouble.

I felt Affleck was a good choice, and he genuinely seemed enthusiastic about the project. I recall him mentioning being inspired after watching Snyder direct on the BVS set.

The essence of all of them ...

Nolan thinking, logical, and realistic. Classy.
Burton, disheveled, and nonsensical looking. Goth.
Shumacher, gay.

Good thing Ben Shook Ones Affleck bowed out. Coward. Can't handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Just give it to Snyder, and let him own this entire thing apart from the spin offs. Legitimize it as the Synderverse.

MOS
BvS
JL
The Batman

Affleck can phone in another one note, serviceable, yet boring performance. And keep his hands off out of fear of failure for potential ramifications on his director resume.

After the absolute putrid Live by Night, where the director miscast the leading man. Because he doesn't fit, and doesn't have the chops.

Jesus, who rang the aggressively hateful troll bell?

Yeah, because merely STANDING next to Arnold Schwarzenegger... so gay. :whatever:

Well, I don't know. In the years since the CBM craze caught fire, has there ever been an actor to direct AND star in their own film? No? Then perhaps being hesitant to be first isn't cowardice. Maybe it is SANITY.

What was hateful in what I said? Shumacher is gay. His Batman was full of homoerotic overtones. Not subtly or under tones. So, simply being factual equals hateful? Or trolling? Was it the Burton being weird and Goth comment that got your PC principal panties in a jack twist? The words gay or goth are descriptions not slander or derogatory.

And there still won't be. Thanks to performance issues, cowardice, and lack of confidence in himself or passion for the material.

Good riddance, Ben Shook Ones Affleck.

Yet he wrote, directed and starred in a number of other Hollywood pictures. Including the recently god awful atrocious, Live By Night. He's bailing to save his own ass before things get potentially worse.

The Town worked because of Renner and homages to Heat and TDK. Plus a believable Boston accent.

Argo worked because of Terrio.

Gone Girl worked because of a successful novel, Fincher and Rosamund Pike.

Live By Night was ALL 100% AFFLECK ... and the results? 35%

Yeah, i liked Affleck enough to be enthusiastic. Didn't really care for Argo but I liked The Town and Gone Baby Gone is great.

At the least I was hoping he'd go full Dick Tracy and maybe we'd get an okay movie with lots of great character actors as classic Bat-villains and side characters.

Dick Tracy is still one of the CBM's to beat imho!

The Batman is going to be a joke. Batfleck was so awesome in concept, so much potential to be the ultimate Batman depiction, but once he came out of the gate crushing people with his bat mobile in BvS, his future was written. I agree with the people who say just let Snyder own this whole mess. I'll see the movie as a guilty pleasure, for sure, but will be glad as hell when this DCEU is flushed down the toilet and we don't have to entertain a Joker as bad as Leto's anymore. What a waste of Henry Cavill this whole thing has been. Affleck is smart to take the target off his back and step down... I'm sure he's already regretting the day he signed up.

Everything in the post is TRUTH, straight no chaser. Especially the bolded.

Ben Hackfleck is clearly regretting and back pedaling. That much is obvious. It's not about stress, etc. All movies, or work in general is pressure filled. Especially major motion pictures of any kind. It's also probably why he got so defensive over questions during his flip flopping all summer and fall on directing it.

He knew for awhile he was going to bolt. You don't commit to it on a very public late night show them bolt just two weeks later. That decision making process had been confirmed or turning for quite sometime.

Good riddance, shame it couldn't have been someone less obnoxious, or a big name in the role from the outset. Someone with superior acting ability too.
