Mattchew's fanart thread 5.0... *****e, refined!

ah i knew nightcrawler had something to do with collosus being gay, who is the grey guy???

Looks like a very cool piece so far. Hulkling, Wiccan and Northstar were the only ones I knew about, but I don't really read X-Men, ultimate or otherwise, very often. Regardless, great work, I look forward to seeing the finished product.

On a side note, hopefully no one reads too much into Anole being on his knees. :p

2 down... four to go.

More to come.
:hrt: :oldrazz:
these two are a couple?

Work, laziness, and family health has slowed me down on this piece but I had some time last night to relax so I got started again.

Here is some work on Hulkling...

Thanks for all of the great comments on this piece, so far.

More progress on this piece... (instead of working out).

Here's some progress on Wiccan and Hulkling...

I'd love to hear thoughts, if you have any.

it coming along really nicely matt - looks awesome, your pics always do

Thanks for the kind words! :D

I'll be finishing up these two soon and onto the final pair in the piece.

gay_08.jpg

I'd love to hear thoughts as always.

This is a complete on this pair (Wiccan/Hulkling) for my gay Marvel piece.

After taking months away from this, I'm happy with how its going.

More progress to come.

looks pretty good Mattchew...mind some constructive critiquing?

looks great man, though... those arn't the colors teddy sports (he's always depicted with a yellow shirt underneath and it matches the yellow on his shoulders, Wiccan seems to be lacking something... on first look he looks more like Gambit than Wiccan, i think mostly from the hair shape and color. I suggest looking up how they're depicted in Children's Crusade, unless you're taking artistic liberties?

also... hulkling reminds me of that one unintelligent looney tunes character that would always grab bugs bunny and go "i want to hold him and squeeze him and ..." he looks like he's choking wiccan as wiccan stands uncomfortably stiff and still. they don't really appear natural, id try relaxing them a bit.

well the legs and arms look incomplete/rushed. i'm not sure if you take into account light sources, but if you plan out where your light sources are before you start coloring it will make your colors more dynamic. i'd suggest just look up some covers for various magazines and study how lighting from different angles effects shadows and highlights.

that being said, i've always liked your style. it's unique and interesting to look at...but i've noticed that your light sources seems to be coming from the same place in most of your work, and changing that up will go a long way in making your work look better ;) keep it up though

I've kinda made my bed with this piece, but you're so right about lighting. I'll really take this into consideration on future pieces.

Here's a retake on Wiccan and some color changes on Hulkling...

gay_11.jpg

I'm happier with this... Hope you like the update.

Just an update on the group shot...

gay_12.jpg

One more pair to go.

the colors on wiccan and hulkling look much better. the pose is still a little awkward, but it's still all coming together nicely

I got super busy and had to take a break from drawing, but now that life calmed down I've lost steam on that Marvel piece I was working on.

I'll probably finish it, but not any time soon.

In stead, I started work on my 2011 X-Mas card.

The concept involves Santa (who will be in the background eventually) unleashing his monster on a naughty kid...

This is a loose sketch of the foreground layout.

The monster in the sketch above is really a place holder and will be replaced by hundreds of tiny toys....

It's super early so far, but I'd love to hear thoughts if you have them.
