Days of Future Past Matthew Vaughn Is NOT Helming X-Men: First Class Sequel

I'm disappointed. Singer is fine, but I'd consider him a safe option at this point.

I think Vaughn would've made a much better film.

Safe? I don't really look at X1 and 2 as "safe" cbms, and I don't think DoFP will change that anytime soon. Vaughn had the chance to make a better film than X-Men with First Class, and he didn't hit the mark imo. Singer really seems like the most solid choice to direct. I'm actually happy Vaughn dropped out.

To tell you the truth, I might be actually happy if Bryan Singer returns to direct the next X-Men movie.

Does Singer directing mean the chances of more old X-Men actors returning is higher?

Heartbreaking news about Vaughn. What is with him? Dropped X3, Kick-Ass 2 and now this? He seems to be having a track record for dropping out of comic book sequels. Enough with Singer...seriously. Get someone new. Aronofsky still available? He obviously has an interest in X-Men.

I wished Vaughn stayed on, or dropped out a year ago and not so close to shooting. Tired of this **** happening. I prefer Vaughns handling of the characters more, but if anyone takes this up it should be Singer. Not cause he directed X2, but because hes been attached to DOFP from the start. Shouldnt change much as others have pointed out.

I don't even think how anyone can consider a scene like this as "safe".

Vaughn does seem fickle. He just drops out of everything... Didn't he also drop out of Thor?

What utterly ****** news this is.

Matthew Vaughn injected such a vibrance and new life into the X-Men franchise. He took what Singer had done, and in some respects elevated it... That said, there were certainly things, elements that Singer handled better.

It is my sincere hope that Singer helms this film now. Is it a safe choice? Yes. But is the script and story for this film safe? No. So it would be essential that they pick a director who they know can handle this complicated story.

I do hope Henry Jackson returns to score this sequel. The Magneto Theme and the overall theme of X-Men: First Class were absolutely amazing. If Jon Ottman comes aboard....hopefully he does like he did with Superman Returns and incorporate his own stuff while still utilizing Henry Jackson's themes.

Agreed.

Singer is anything but safe. He grounded CBMs. He wrote the formula everyone's been using for 12 years now.

His only mistake was being a fanboy & making a fanfilm out of what should have been a Superman film for this generation.

Returning to this franchise, directing what is arguably the greatest X-Men story & helming it with the biggest budget for an X-Men film to date may result in FOX's answer to The Avengers & Nolan's Dark Knight films.

I can easily see a Singer-directed DOFP banking $500 Million Domestic.

Frankly, I was never confident in Vaughn helming such a huge undertaking.

Singer made darker, better X-Films than Vaughn made with First Class. If Singer returns, expect a better film!

Only in Logan, with a dark psychological drama, which is understandable and fitting. I doubt he has interest in a big action adventure sci-fi extravaganza.

Yeah, but that was because his script was budgeted at like 300M and he didn't think he could halve it IIRC

Marvel "let" him go, aka they didn't renew his option. His take on Thor was more epic than the one we eventually got (i.e. more expensive).

It seems like they're changing the nature of the sequels to First Class, FC seemed like it would spawn more prequels to the main series but it seems like the next film is just going to mend the franchise with Bryan Singer as the brain behind all.

Yes because Magneto in First Class showed no semblance of a dark psychological dramatic character. :whatever: There has been a ton of that in all of the X-Men movies.

Well I can say that I am personally disappointed.

Singer is great, but his style is very cerebral (no pun intended) and stark. Vaughn brought a sense of style, elegance and fun to the first film which is, IMO, by far the best X-Men movie ever made. He also has a handle on 1960s-style chic that made him so perfect for the material.

Oh well.

If this is Fox's answer to a movie like The Avengers, it will undoubtedly be the stronger film in terms of story and characters. I think Singer can also direct great action scenes with a larger budget. The action scenes he did get to film in X2 and X1 were great on the budget that he had.

Same about not feeling completely confident in Vaughn with DoFP. Huge relief if Singer comes back.

Definitely, with stronger themes that stick with you when the movie's over. A movie that will have you talking and thinking.

i hope its singer, if anything its probably the safest bet

its odd after the things vaughn said about a sequel that he is no longer doing it

What makes you think DOFP will be a character study drama, rather than Star Wars?

FOX wouldn't let him do that to Wolverine, they sure as hell wouldn't let him do that to a X-Men movie.

I would be happy if Powell returned to compose like he did for The Last Stand as well, if Ottman doesn't come back. Loved both of the scores, heck, even the first X-Men's score.

to be fair dofp seems like visually it fits singer more than vaughn isn't it very dark and comparing it to x men meets terminator not much vibrance needed there

I don't know what direction DOFP is going and neither do you. Just pointing out the X-Men movies haven't been like...let's say the Fantastic Four movies where they are just some big dumb action blockbusters. Well The Last Stand was sorta like that...thanks to Ratner.

And what are you talking about? Aronofsky was good to go on The Wolverine. I thought the only reason he dropped out was because he didn't want to be shooting overseas for that long and away from his family?

vaughn liked the first class script mostly for its 60's charm didn't he?
