Max Payne

The thing is, Ludacris didn't really do anything at all as Bravura. He's barely even in the movie. That and Nelly Furtado as the wife of Max's old partner. I mean what was the point of that?

Making things like Max Payne, Hitman, and Resident Evil (ESPECIALLY Resident Evil) should have been a no brainer, yet they managed to screw all of them up. The only video game movie they've ever done right is Mortal Kombat, as it stuck to the games story, was fun, and yeah cheesy as hell, but that was kind of the point.

You think they got RE wrong, but got that crappy MK movie right? At least RE1 followed the basic elements of RE. Main character chick or dude fights zombies while throw-away characters die left and right. MK didn't even have blood or gorey fatalities, which was the only gimmick that generic series had that used to make it interesting.

Ludacris in a trench coat and serious? That's laughable.

What's even better is his pronunciation of 'Bravura'.

The sequence on the stairs with his hilarious hat, he's shouting "Ba-oora!!!". I couldn't stop laughing at the way he was dressed, he looked like a muppet.

He looked like Inspector Gadget. Whoever designed his costume is an idiot.

Just because it didnt have gory fatalities didnt make the movie bad, sub-zero still shattered someone with ice, scorpion spewed flames at Johnny Cage, Shang Tsung took people's souls. The fatalities were there, they just didnt go overboard with it and have 30 gallons of blood flying everywhere. The RE movies altogether were terrible, although they maintained the basic plot of a virus breaking loose and turning people into zombies, the inclusion of "Alice" as a main character and people like Jill Valentine shot the movie down, the characters from the game played second fiddle to a character made up solely for the film

just saw it i give it a 6/10 its not a bad as people say it was its major down fall imo was not enough action i mean there was barely any you would think thats a first for this type of director things that would of made it better :

-Rated R yes i was with pg13 at first but after seeing it some blood and some memorable kill by max would of been awesome
-more cursing there was a bit but more would be great
-about 30 - 40min. longer
-involve some MOB element into movie
perhaps have a Russian mob run valkyr supply with horn paying them so mona and max can battle the mob that would of been sweet

also wouldn't it had been better if max was narrating himself like how Bruce Willis was in sin city

But the gore was the main aspect of the game. Without that adjective added, you only have the nintendo version of the game, which sold like lead balloons compared to the sega version. Lack of this is also why the animated series flopped so many years ago, but then again, when working with a gaming series that has such a generic plot like mortal kombat, you couldn't expect much in the first place. Speaking of which, neither the animated series or the movies followed the plot well, especially MK2. It was just badly put togethor imo. Almost as bad as Street Fighter.

True. But RE never did have a forever recurring protagonist anyway, so it didn't seem bad with the way they took liberties to change a few things with the cast to me. I do agree RE2 and RE3 sucked balls though, however, I still like RE1 and thought nothing done bad was too bad to forgive.

I cant remember the last time i was so bored watching an action film.Max Payne tries to be stylish and borrow some of its look from Sin City.
Max Payne is no Sin City.
Each time you think the story is going to pick up and intensify it comes to a grinding stop.MP is very predictable after the first 20 minutes i knew exactly where the story was going. You woulld have to be deaf and blind not to figure out who the bad guys are. Some of the visuals are cool.I recall watching the trailer a few times and had high hopes for what the meaning of the dark angels where, but of course those hopes were dashed. Some action is thrown our way towards the end of MP.But that ends up being lack luster too.Mila Kunis was totally wasted in this. She's introduced to us and then barely seen after.
Never played the game but likely would have had a better time at home playing it.
Scale of 1-10 a 3

RE may not have had the same characters returning each game, but the character you played as to some degree had connections to the previous character or characters that appeared in the game before. Sometimes, the character was in another location at the time of the events of the game. The RE movies could have been done so much better, I didn't like the whole Alice having these "supernatural" abilities to burn the shyt out of anything and do all of this extraordinary crap. Frankly, if you're making a protagonist for a RE movie, they should have a disadvantage over the zombies, in Alice's case, she had way more advantages, by the third movie, she was virtually unstoppable.

If Alice, or a character like Alice were playable in the game, that would be the equivalent to playing with a gameshark or a codebreaker.

You make good points tho, I totally agree with the Mortal Kombat stuff

I never play the game before and I think this movie is pretty boring. There's hardly any action scenes at all too

I'm positively baffled by the negative reaction this movie is getting. I damn near loved this movie. Mark Walhberg is excellent. The movie is drenched in atmosphere. It's a visually arresting movie with an especially amazing production design. And the story was compelling throughout. I thought Max Payne was such a well written very sad, tragic chacter and Wahlberg does an ace job in capturing how sad and tragic a character he is.

Hell this movie didn't even feel like a movie based on a video game to me. It was a pure noir crime thriller. There is some sloppiness near the end when the movie becomes more special effects heavy but as a whole I really enjoyed this movie a lot. It's a nearly perfect movie of it's genre.

Even as a fan of the games I didn't really care about some of the changes they mad. The only problem I had is that there wasn't enough action. I wish it had more bullet time.

Even as an adaptation it is still good. It got the basic story right. Cop's wife and daughter get killed because of a conspiracy around a military manufactured drug called Valkur. The movie is filled with junkies who rave about angels, the graffiti of the "V" with the syringe, Mona sax wanting revenge for her sister, Lupino is a psycho, B.B is a traitor, there’s bullet time, and the atmosphere is just like the game. With the way most videogame adaptations end up, the fans should be thankful it at least got these things right.

I hope it gets a sequel.

I never played the game so I don't know how much it followed. But the movie was weak. I like Mark. There wasn't enough of the hot chick. The tattoo guy weirded me out. Lupino was alright BUT...
The total emphasis on him as a red herring bad guy made the ending anti-climatic and a bit of a mess.
There were so many character that I started to lose interest. I liked the visuals and dark tone of the film.

I finally saw this movie Thursday night. I actually was going to wait til it came out on DVD, but I ended up getting a free ticket.

The movie, to me, was a lot better than I thought it was going to be, and how the previews/trailers had made it out to be.

Without spoiling anything, I'll just say that the big "WTF" thing for me, was handled better than I thought it was going to be like.

Mark Wahlberg did a fine job as a tortured cop, but he doesn't pull off that passive style too often.

I liked the small little shoutouts to the game, like the dive through the door or the backward jump. But, and I may be the only one, wanted him to actually find a bottle of pills, just like in the game. Just as a nod, since that's how you obtained life in the game.

I wasn't too impressed with Ludacris, sorry, but his acting sucked this time around. It seemed like he was literally reading off a cue card.

But, the overall movie was enjoyable. I gave it a 7/10.

At least, it didn't feel as horrid as Doom, or some Uwe Boll video game attempt.

Oh, and I didn't know it was PG-13 til after we left, the tone made it feel like it could pass for an R rating, but it was still shot well enough to get the brutalness of the movie across.

this isn't out in the uk till next year shame with who was cast and the original story it could ave been a great action film

what the hell happened

what happened is they *****ed out death sentence was a better revenge movie

When US get BOND on Nov 14 we get PAYNE. same day.

The thing is. I like these games. They are fun, badass, and cool. The movie had none of that.

Mila Kunis goes back to movie jail.
