The reviewer did sound pretty clueless about the material. This film would be great and could be a piece of trash, but I won't know until this Friday when I see the film on opening night. My expectations are really low anyways so I have no real excitement going into the theater.

But I'm tired of this being ignored so I am going to say it again. Max Payne the game isn't one of those goretastic games where you see every bit of blood, bones, guts, and so forth. What made the game unique and interesting was the tone of it, the gritty nature, the story, and the characters. I played both Max Payne and Max Payne 2 last night, and I saw lots of head-shots and body shots with little to no blood.
In my own(personal) opinion, I believe that people who give scores ranging from either the lowest can get or the highest can get, they're the ones who are clueless.

reviewer sounds pretty clueless if you ask me he hasn't even played the damn game lol

plus i never go on other's reviews there are movies that get bad reviews that i love

In fairness, both negative reviews are from people who have never even heard of or played the game. The review at AICN even says they thought the bullet time scenes were "******ed" and "who thought it was a good idea?"

....well, the videogame the movie is based on, for one. I'll make my own judgements on Thursday.

i've always thought 'Max Payne' was suppose to cinematic in nature, paying homage to gritty 'revenge' movies of the past. It's certainly most ironic that there's a movie based on this game!

I do agree however, that the reviews are coming from non-gamers. But at the sametime, it's a Fox movie. (filmed in Canada, under 90 mins, pg-13) i'm not expecting too much.

You shouldn't have to have played the game for it to work as a film. I always find it odd when lack of knowledge of the source material, is used to explain why a critic is wrong.

Oh and 85 minutes? Makes QoS look like War and Peace.

That is exactly what they suppose to be. So casting Walhberg was their first mistake. He is neither gritty or ironic. Max should be walking around bleeding, cuts and gun shots all over the place, with an actor who has the voice of a Bogart for the narrations. He should look as messed up as his dying city. It is a sly thriller noir bordering on parody, but gives just enough life to its characters to make you invest.

He should have suit that looks nearly apart of him because he doesn't wear anything else. A tie that describes his character. Instead we have an Old Navy looking model. The rest of the cast are hilarious archetypes. Slightly extreme versions of characters who we have seen a thousand time, with those quirks that make them special.

The gun fights are only a tiny bit of that. They have ruined this. The question is how much.

In all fairness who cares if they played the game or not?! It's not like the game had this awesome amazing plot. I played the game and was so bored I never even finished it.

Damn, another bad videogame adaptation...well, here's looking at you Chun-Li, good luck...

I guess I'm speaking personally, but I don't imagine someone who's never played Mortal Kombat would appreciate the first MK movie as much as someone who's played the game. While the former might say "WTF?? WHY IS HE SHOOTING ICE FROM HIS HANDS???" the latter would say "YES!! SUB ZERO BABY!!"

I realize they are trying to go for a broad audience with Max Payne, I just think those who enjoyed the game would probably be a lot more likely to enjoy the movie. And I'm one of those people.

There is a difference between enjoying a film because it is tied to your heart and enjoying a film because it is actually good. When I was ten I loved the Mortal Kombat movie. Did that make it a good film? Not even close.

It isn't about making something for a broader audience. It is about adapting the material right and making the best film possible out of it. Max Payne has potential to be a damn fine Gilliam-like film. They obviously missed the mark.

It doesn't matter if they've never played the game. It just seems like they didn't research the material. In the review they're like, "Who decided to put in bullet time and monsters in OMG itz sO frickenz stupidz". It's like complaining that The Dark Knight was stupid because he dresses like a bat.

I was trying to tell my friends, who love Wahlberg's Entourage and movies, that whoever his agent is ruining his career.

He goes from The Departed to

1. Shooter
2. Invincible
3. The Happening
4. Max Payne
5. We Own the Night (was a big dissappointment IMO)

What are you doing, Mark? Are you talented or were you just born to play an A$$hole Boston Bad A$$ that you played in the Departed.

Mark...do you remember the Boogie Nights or Fear roles?

I thought We Own the Night was great, but it was clearly Joaquin Phoenix's movie.

I take it you've never seen The Perfect Storm or I Heart Huckabee's? Mark has done pretty good for himself honestly. He's a very talented actor and every actor has a few stinkers under their belt. Shooter didn't flop if I remember correctly, haven't seen Invincible, We Own The Night was Phoenix's movie, and Max Payne should be good. I'm not expecting some Dark Knight esque film anyways.

i don't care what anyone says, Shooter was the bomb! The headshots in that movie were magnificent! And when he blew that one guy's arm clean off? Forget about it!!! Marky Mark was splittin' domes like nobody's business in that movie!

Yeah, he definitely made people feel the vibration......of his sniper rifle.

Mark Wahlberg is overrated, and his role in The Departed was laughable.
Anyway, this movie looks terrible. Shame on Fox.

As I said before, I have low expecations for Max Payne anyways. It looks decent, but it doesn't look great. I hate Fox so I knew this was going to be watered down to begin with.

As for Mark Wahlberg being overrated? Hardly. He started his career off as a successful hip-hop artist and then became a serious actor. He didn't start off in big movies like most musicians tend to do. He gradually worked his way to becoming a serious actor who gives pretty damn good performances.

My favorite Wahlberg movies are The Perfect Storm, Rock Star(Mainly for the music in general. Wahlberg was the only good part of the film in terms of performances.), I Heart Huckabees, The Departed, Boogie Nights, and We Own The Night.

Ugh. This movie was bad. Really bad. I'll post a full review tonight.

I will say this: I'd rather watch The Happening again that this loser. At least that disaster was hilarious in its ineptitude, Payne is just boring as hell.

Well, I only saw W and this, so no, not really...
Though of the two, W. is infinitely better. Just not worth seeing, really...

Look into Rachel Getting Married. It's very good.
