PITTSBURGH -- A 20-year-old woman who was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield was also maimed by her attacker, apparently because of her political views, police said.According to WTAE's news exchange partners the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Ashley Todd, of College Station, Texas, was using an ATM at Liberty Avenue and Pearl Street in Bloomfield just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday when a man approached her and put a knife to her throat.Police spokeswoman Diane Richard said the robber took $60 from Todd, then became angry when he saw a McCain bumper sticker on the victim's car.
The attacker then punched and kicked the victim, before using the knife to scratch the letter "B" into her face, Richard said. The Tribune reported that Todd, who isn't familiar with the area, drove to a friend's house and together the pair located the Citizens Bank ATM at Liberty and Pearl where the attack happened and called police.Todd declined to comment to the Tribune. Friends said she is in Pittsburgh volunteering for the McCain-Palin campaign.Richard said the woman refused medical treatment after the assault, which happened outside the view of the bank's surveillance cameras. The robber is described as a dark-skinned black man, 6 feet 4 inches tall, 200 pounds with a medium build, short black hair and brown eyes. The man was wearing dark colored jeans, a black undershirt and black shoes.
The Obama-Biden campaign released a statement, commenting on the attack. The statement said "Our thoughts and prayers are with the young woman for her to make a speedy recovery, and we hope that the person who perpetrated this crime is swiftly apprehended and brought to justice."The McCain-Palin campaign also released a statement saying "The McCain campaign is aware of the incident involving one of its volunteers. Out of respect, the campaign won't be commenting. The campaign also confirms that Senator McCain and Governor Palin have both spoken to the woman."

Why didn't she seek medical attention immediately after the attack? That makes no sense to me.

Not everyone goes to the hospital when they get hurt--not even for something like this.

I was hit by a car while cycling earlier this year. I was scraped up and had a sizable deep-tissue bruise on my thigh, but I didn't go to the ER. Didn't need to.

Some people may try to treat it themselves and wait to see their physcian later. Emergency room visits can be expensive, even if it is only a co-pay.

Looks like the B was carved backwards on her face, unless of course the attacker carved it from an upside down angle or, in the event that this is a hoax, she carved it on herself in front of a mirror.

I could see an upside down angle. Standing over her, looking down from her head. It would be easier to hold her head in place and avoid kicking that way. Who knows though? Bunch of savages in this town.

You are right, the 'B' does look like it was carved backward. It's rather weird and a little suspicious.

Fixed. :cwink:

So the main reasons the police department is suspicious:

1. Attack happened away from surveillance cameras.
2. Backwards B.
3. Girl chooses to not receive medical treatment.
4. Girl updates her blog before telling the cops.

We'll see what comes of it. I think it's a toss-up at this point, especially due to points 1 and 4.

True enough.

It's TMZ, but to be honest I wont be shocked if this turns out to be a hoax. She was updating her blog about the robbery before even calling the cops.

It wouldn't suprise me...but what would be the point. Is this girl delussional enough to think it would win the election for McCain? Well, if she's carving up her face...probably. Never the less, I've had cuts that at first I did not think were too bad and would scab over, only later to decide I needed stitches.

The first part is obvious. I'm guessing a mugger would probably scout his area, determine where the cameras are and then attack.

Part 2 depends on the angle.

3 and 4 are pretty suspect, but plausible.

Okay, so the attack happened shortly before 9pm? Why did she update her twitter at 12:23 am saying she was looking for an ATM? And then 30 minutes later to say she was in the wrong part of Pittsburgh? That places the attack closer to 1 in the morning.

Now THAT is damning.

If this woman is telling the truth, I hope they find the punk that did this to her.

Timestamped and everything... this just reeks of bull****.

Well it's not just on TMZ it's on Drudge as well as all over the Pittsburgh local news.

He meant TMZ is the one that is reporting on the police department's doubt of whether this is true or a hoax.

the only reason I am inclined to believe this in the least is...well...how stupid do you have to be to go with the backwards B?

Oh, I'm aware that Drudge is carrying the story. I was referring to the hoax angle. Drudge is certainly not mentioning the possibility of a hoax.

Someone dumb enough to not notice that Twitter timestamps updates?

Or maybe she was too busy "jammin to 80s rock baller" to call the cops immediately after the attack.
