MCU Marathon - Infinity War Rewatch Thread

Got around to Captain America: The First Avenger today. A lot of people would say it's the most underrated movie in the MCU and I'd probably agree.

Also, every villain in Phase One is good except Whiplash.

Iron Monger/Stane: I liked him enough
Hulk: Abomination/Blonsky: I'd be cool seeing him show up again
Vanko: Not good
Loki and Laufey were good imo
Red Skull: Good when the script allowed
None of them besides Loki are big standouts but I wouldn't say any of them were bad

The issue for me with Red Skull is that you have a top villain played by a top actor so the standard there should be higher. If you get Jack Nicholson as Joker you need it to be memorable or you might as well get a random actor to play an unknown villain.

Right, I get that. Unfortunately you had to tell the origin story of Steve Rogers so that kinda cut away from some of his scenes

Just finished Phase One with the Avengers.

I forgot just how good this movie is. Still top tier MCU.

Just got done with Thor: The Dark World. It used to be my least favorite, easily but after watching it just now I think I like it more than Hulk and maybe even Iron Man 2. All 3 are pretty much bottom MCU though

I just made it past the first Thor. I had forgotten how much I really do enjoy iron Man 2. It definitely is not "a commercial for the Avengers" that so many people like to say it is.

I like Thor a lot, but it does feel a little slow to me. The Loki stuff is still awesome but the rest of it doesnt wow me very much any more. Some of the locations, especially jotunheim feel like movie sets, not actual places. And those scenes are so dark

The problem with the first two Thor movies, and why they are universally agreed upon as the weakest in the franchise, is the crippling need for them to keep coming back to earth. It makes sense on paper ("ground the movie in our world to help build stakes and tension") but it was never done all that well. I thought it was fine in the first Thor but by the second it just felt like a contrived studio note. I'm glad Ragnorak switched things up by only going to earth at the beginning and making the most of it by giving us a great cameo from Doctor Strange.

Just watched Captain America: Winter Soldier (2014) and honestly if you want my honest assessment of the film I will say that it is a huge step up from First Avenger (2011). First Avenger definitely had an adventure type feel to it well as far as the overall tone of the film and that was the perfect way to go as far as introducing Steve Rogers into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, with CA: WS they up the stakes because it has a political aspect to it in the sense of it being a spy thriller. Politics meets intelligence/covert ops and to me that is what the character of Captain America is about. Bucky as the villain though to me fell flat at times however the film basically goes into detail of how SHIELD/HYDRA found him and turned him into the killing machine we all know today as Winter Soldier which was the perfect way of reintroducing him into the universe rather than just him as a sidekick which is what he was in First Avenger more or less.

When watching the film you wouldn't even think Redford's character of Pierce was a villain but then they throw plot twist after plot twist at us which still to this day gets me and that is what Marvel does such a great job at.

Now that Winter Soldier is done, I am about to watch Guardians of the Galaxy.

Winter Soldier only gets sturdier and sturdier the more I watch it.

Ten minutes into Homecoming at the moment and.... yeah, I'm still in love with this movie. I didn't realize just how much I liked the score until this viewing. This captures the spirit of Spider-man in a way that even rivals the first Raimi film.

Just finished watching Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and honestly it never gets old whenever I watch it as far as the comedic moments but also because of the action scenes too which in my opinion go in contrast with the funny moments quite well. I will say this Guardians of the Galaxy the first film is probably better than Vol 2. (2017) and that's saying something.

Now in my MCU marathon I am about to start on Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) especially since I am going in chronological order or I have starting from Iron Man (2008).

Where would you guys place Homecoming, Strange, Ragnarok and Panther in chronological order for a rewatch.

I'm up to AoU nect is Antman then Cival War but after that if seen so many variations.

I'm thinking Ragnarok last. Strange first. The other 2 interchangeable

Yeah Black Panther seems to directly follow Civil War. Not sure about the others though as they all seem to stand on their own.

For what it's worth, I always watch things in the order they were released. It just feels like the intended viewing order even if it isn't chronologically accurate.

Same here. If I watch later released but chronologically earlier films first, it can be jarring when I get to the earlier released but chronologically later films which don't really acknowledge things that came before.

The director of Dr. Strange in an interview said that was not an easter egg for Rhodey.

They've got some continuity issues to answer for, most notably that weirdly specific easter egg that I think was at one point meant to be Rhodes, and the 8 year gap between Avengers and Homecoming.

The "8 Years Later" thing still bothers me. They should have just done a "Present Day" text screen like Black Panther.

Another continuity issue that bothers me in Homecoming is Peter missing the black eye he had that was addressed in the end credits scene of Civil War.

My assumption is Homecoming takes place months later, so it would have healed.

Homecoming does take place over a few months, but the scene in the beginning of Homecoming where Tony drops Peter off at home happens right after the airport fight in Civil War. Tony even still has his black eye that Bucky gave him.

And you can see Peter's eye doesn't really match up to what we saw in Civil War (starts at around 1:35 here):

Continued my Marvel marathon and I just watched Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). Not as good as the first Avengers but damn near close if you ask me. James Spader= perfect casting as the voice for Ultron and his villainous performance to me came off as menacing which is what you want your villain to be. Definitely a lot more action than the first Avengers film and so much dramatic impact as well.

Watching Ant Man (2015) right now so I am halfway to ending my MCU marathon and right after I go on to Civil War (2016).

Does anybody know if there's any chance Black Panther will be available for digital download in time?

I believe it's still tearing it up in theaters, so I'm afraid not (though I guess if it is still in theaters, that will be an option).

I'm just OCD enough that if I can't get that in, it's going to bug me.
