MCU: Phase II

Dr. Strange's origin I think lends itself very well to film. It's very cinematic. You don't have to change the origin around all that much. Just modern tweaks and a more clear narrative. Ant-Man is a bit harder to approach, but Edgar Wright is creative and could make it worth. I agree, both shouldn't have 140-150 mil budgets. I'd invest more in Dr. Strange, personally. But, I'd still not put in the 140-150mil budget.
That's the reason i'm looking so much forward to the movie, and what makes me have less hope with doctor stange is that the studios may not be completely happy with the script, but still, his origin is more cinematic thats true, but ant-man has edgar wright:cwink:

Rewrites are normal. Even Wright's "finished" script will get rewrites. That doesn't mean they're unhappy with it.

Okay, I'm going to do this a different way...to make room for Winter movies:

2012:

The Avengers (May)

2013:

Iron Man 3 (May)
Thor 2 (July)

2014:

Ant-Man (February)
Captain America 2 (May)
Doctor Strange (August)

2015:

Runaways (February)
Avengers 2 (May)

2016:

Black Panther (November)
Thor 3 (May)
Hulk Requel (July)

2017:

Luke Cage (February)
Captain America 3 (May)
Sequel to whichever Post Avenger franchise does the best (July)

2018:

Avengers 3 (May)

his origin is fine, it's just his age, costume, etc.. that may not appeal to an audience. It worked for RDJ as ironman, but someone in late 30s/40s as a sorcerer in a crazy costume.. eh... you really gotta make it work, or it may appear as ridiculous as antman could.

He didn't say it would be a bad movie, he said the audience wouldn't take him seriously. I'm confident NOBODY but comic fans will be able take "Ant-Man" seriously at least until after they've seen the movie, but they may not want to see it. Black Panther and Dr. Strange can be taken seriously because honestly there's nothing funny about them, but Ant-Man? Even a fan has to be able to admit that the GA would have second thoughts about seeing that.
Thank you.

So cool to hear things are moving forward for Dr. Strange, you're looking at Marvel's Harry Potter right there. Think it'll be released by 2013? I think could Marvel could release three films that year.

see... i think you're wrong about that.. i dont see how dr. strange and harry potter are comparable at all other than the use of magic...

That could fit with 2013's 2 big movies and one small movie.
It would make more sence than Ant-Man since they pratically anounced a 2014 release date for it

Figure of speech. :hehe: Exactly that though, use of magic. Dr. Strange is one of my favorite characters, so I'm excited for this.

At best maybe a winter release for the doc.

Im really hoping that Marvel has the balls to try to do a female MCU movie pretty soon. They need to take a chance on one of their female properties.

Seems like Doctor Strange may be released by 2013

The Marvel movie universe has slowly but surely been getting more otherworldly with Cosmic Cubes and Asgardian realms and whatnot, but that shift could be on the verge of going seismic as reports are indicating that a Doctor Strange movie is heating up.

Twitch reports that scripters Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer have just turned in a script about the Sorcerer Supreme and "Marvel is pushing forward with the property." They were hired last summer to bring the story of Stephen Strange to the screen, and have also toiled on Cowboys & Aliens and the Conan remake, as well as a draft of the Uncharted movie (for what it's worth).

The studio has made up a short list of directors and is "forwarding the current script to each to try and sign someone up to 'oversee continued development,'" possibly for a 2013 release.

I'd like to see that shortlist.I'd love a Dr.Strange movie with Mordo and Dormmamu.

Tagline:Never send a boy to do a man's job

a jab at Harry Potter

man, we really need someone like Del Toro's vision to do Doctor strange.

Aren't they planning that with Black Widow?

I'd like to see Ms Marvel, Spider-Woman or She-Hulk. Spider-Woman would be great as long as they distinguish it from Spider-Man, and keep the dark angel of the night angle from the early comics.

Marvel has been spot on with picking directors that "fit" their characters, so it'll be interesting who gets the job. Someone like Del Toro would be beyond perfect.

if black widow gets a solo... i only really seeing her being a one movie thing (i don't see multiples) and imo the best story to tell imo is her vs Yellena Belova. Which would help explain her russian past, and how the russians created a new black widow to go after her after she deflected to the US

it's a shame Del Toro himself wont happen (mans far too busy...) :(, which sucks, because i could totally see doctor strange in the world of Hellboy

they pick great directors for the movies, but the writers for Doctor Strange have written some pretty bad movies

I think She-Hulk could allow Marvel to branch out more into romantic comedy. It could be a surprise hit and potentially do better than the Hulk movies. It could draw a female audience. Romantic comedies with a female lead have done fairly well and probably better overall compared to pure action movies with a female lead. She-Hulk might want to take a page out of that book.

I also think Marvel Studios need to branch out and not do pure superhero movies all the time. They can have other films they produce throughout the year that involve characters from the comics but aren't the standard action movie.

I said this in another thread that we should have a Howard Stark movie. He came across as quite heroic in Captain America and seems to have a fascinating back story. It could be set during WWII and could be similar to the movie "The Aviator" but with more fantastical elements and could fill in certain blanks in the story, and could ultimately progress through the decades. It could show the world expo, how he met Maria and how she gave birth to Tony, and how Howard and Maria ultimately die in a plane crash.

It wouldn't have to be a superhero movie as such but could show everyday heroism of a normal man set in the Marvel universe. It wouldn't even take up the spot of a Marvel movie that could otherwise be made, since it isn't going to be a superhero movie. There are hundreds of films made in a year and surely there must be room for something like this?

I know there were talks about it but we havent heard anything since, or anything on a release date.

And I would love any one of them to get a movie. They all would bring a different aspect to the MCU. But I think to many people would get confused with Spider-Woman and think she is related to Spiderman. Would be better to establish her in a group movie first I think.

Possible 2013 release? I am hoping that is winter 2013, LOL! Otherwise, I am not liking that BO potential.

I'd like to see it too. Marvel should take the lead since DC is sitting on WW. Part of the problem is many of the more popular women heroes are Fox properties.

While i agree that it will be very interesting for Marvel to take non-conventional heroes, and set them in genre films that arn't about saving the day.. She-Hulk is pure comedy.. she'd have a film like Legally Blonde.. Jenn could be the romantic comedy site.. but Shulk loves the sex. She's known for getting around quite a-lot. Could be an interesting take on Dr. Jekyle and Ms Hyde ;). But she definitely isn't the typical girly rom-com.

other good examples are "Savage Land" which would play out as more of a survival/adventure movie, Man-Thing/Werewolf By Night/Zombie/etc... would all play out more of a horror genre, Runaways would play out like Super 8 and Goonies, etc... etc.. I've also thrown around the idea of Marvel doing a TV show inspired by the Daily Bugle/Frontline and Alex Ross's Marvels where it'd be a tv show series focusing on the civilian staff of the newspaper and how they live in this fantastical world of heroes and villains.

If anything.. this seems like it would work better as a tv series, or webisodes... Howard Stark is essentially Walt Disney/Howard Hughes, and Albert Einstein rolled into one... He's really nothing new
